ozzy and randy forever diary of a madman is an excellent album and ozzys right whos to say whos crazy and whos not fuck ive had people give me shit for being quiet they think im crazy theyre the crazy ones starting shit dairy of a madman spoke volumes to me hail true metal
Theres a site on he web just type in google "Randy Rhoads Tone" and it'll show you where to place your EQ at about, it has pictures, but the EQ wouldn't have the same effect if you changed it. But I'm sure if you follow that site you'll get a tone close to this or the tribute one.
I would imagine he used it in his solos, he would press up on it a tad bit to get his sound to be louder, I never really heard him use use it in a song like to fade out or fade in, He could of used it for feedback by pressing up on it to achieve more feedback but all in all I'm not sure what he would of used it for.
well see my birthday is coming up and ive already decided i needed the mxr dist + to start off with and then ill buy a ten band eq from b day money, but the question for you is what other things do i need for a good essential randy tone.(and im gettin a boss space echo!)
Then you just need to get your pedals and tune them in to get a Randy Rhoads tone, like i sid just google Randy Rhoads Tone and you should get a page that will tell you how and have pictures of how to set up your gear.
hey again. i asked you Q's about randys equip earlier during the summer and i thought id ask you another......i just bought(not an MXR) a stereo chorus and i cant get the same tone of chorus he used in a certain show. type in randy rhoads king biscuit and any song on there has a very distinct chorus to it....thanks again
I don't know how he had it specifically set up, i would just mess with it till i got wat i was looking for. He probably used a little chorus and not a whole lot. Like i said just experiment with your chorus and you should be fine
well thanks! yeah ive definately been trying but i get to the point where i have way too much chorus and it sounds sloppy. and are you good at learning songs by ear?? cuz i pride myself on being able to do that but theres a song(children of the grave, MN) i cant bust cuz his solo just keeps going and going and its so smooth
No i'm not good with my ear to what note, I would say the Tribute Album Tab Book has the closest thing to MN Children of the Grave. I would ask around at Ultimate Guitar and other places if you wanted the excat tab, they probably have some people who could
im really kinda suprised there isnt more good Randy Rhoads/Ozzy footage than there is. If there is any, it sure as hell didnt find its way onto youtube. There are a handful of good quality videos here.
haha, show kids this clip, then show them him now... and call it "Drugs: Before and After"... it would make a great anti-drug campaign for schools. :P
@TwilightZoneBand Actually, In Rudy's book., it say's. They filmed 4 song's. And If, they filmed them in the same order they played them. ( on the Diary tour) That would mean they filmed, Over the Mountain, Mr. Crowley, Crazy Train & Revelation! I would LOVE TO SEE THIS!!!!!!
You Tube just removed the 2 really cool Mr. Crowley 'picture disc' EP Tracks that were posted. You can still leave messages, if you have it book-marked the old fashion way, click on the Picts above left.
Guitar Player Magazine Just had a Poll for the 40 Best Rock Metal Live Albums and there was not even an honorable mention for Tribute! Absolute Stupidity. 20 Years ago Tribute Won Best Rock Guitar Album.
In my opinion, Ozzy's FINEST era! The stage set (in my opinion, sure beats what he's got these days!), the guitarist (no disrespect to Randy Rhoads, but, in my opinion, I WAS impressed with Brad Gillis' playing!), the drummer (in my opinion, Tommy Aldridge suited Ozzy JUST FINE! Don't care for his current drummer), and the bass player (in my opinion, when you're armed with Rudy Sarzo, you can't go wrong)!
Well yeah but even here he was pretty wasted. He was WAAAAY into the booze and coke during the 80s cuz he had been doin that shit durin the 70s with sabbath.
It's sad cuz in the end it really jacked up his voice.

The "live" footage here was filmed with no audience and Rudy Sarzo's book says that they had a hard time getting into it with no crowd to play to.

what effect(s) is randy using at 1:35
9USMC4 2 years ago
Thats not an effect, thats just Randy plugged into his guitar into and MXR Dist + and MXR 10 Band EQ To his Marshall
XterTheTexter 2 years ago
really? i thought it was an effect but i dont have a 10 band eq so idk what it does. but thanks
9USMC4 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure thats all it is, there might be a little Flanger in it but thats what his tone mostly sounds like live
XterTheTexter 2 years ago
alright thanks
9USMC4 2 years ago
if i bought the 10 band eq, i wouldnt know where to start to make it sound like that. or will it still have the same effect

hey what does a Boss FV-500L Stereo Volume Pedal do. i know randy used one but for what. explain it in terms i would understand hah

9USMC4 2 years ago
You gotta have a Marshall Amp, the Marshall is what made up his tone a good bit.
XterTheTexter 2 years ago
oh yeah i forgot to mention that, i have one, idk really what kind but the amp inside is a 80's super lead
