when training for one arm chins heavy singles with static holds on top and on the descent make your strength go up veryy fast. do the rest pause style
Yeah, my advice is limited because I don't think it needs to be more complicated than this:
Get a strong pull (you might want to add weight to your standard pullups to keep getting progressive gains.)
Swing very slightly, as you start to swing backwards, pull. That way you should have distance between the bar and your chest as you pass the bar, meaning you can pull your strongest and not get all caught up underneath the bar.
Hey, I have a friend that wants to get stronger, but he isn't even able to do any chin-ups at all yet. Got any advice on how to get stronger so he CAN do chin-ups. even if it's only 1 or 2 :P
Those negatives have to be slower, like...between 8-12 second descent.
After that, try locking off in top, middle, and about an "inch" from the bottom positions. If you could do each of those for 10 seconds while holding 5 lbs in the other hand, I'd say you could pretty much have one.
Thanks, this was a while ago, they're now pretty easy. Although, I did not find personally that one arm negative training was useful in the slightest, its only training effect was joint pain and fatigue.
I decided to train weighted pullups instead, and realised a few months later I could oac pretty easy.
I would recommend not putting your elbows through the stress of training oac negatives to anyone that wants to be able to one arm chinup. Weighted pullups are far safer and more functional
I vehemently disagree. There is no real evidence that intelligent resistance training is harmful to a developing body at all.
What leads you to believe that a pullup with a weights belt or weighted vest is jarring? It is a very stable, controlled movement, creating a lot of muscular tension without stressing your elbows inordinately.
Anti-weightism is born through rumour and lack of knowledge.
An OAC negative is SO obviously more stressful for elbows and shoulders.
Elbows. Yeah, Although I think if yo're strong enough to hang completely in a controlled manner (I wasn't in this video). Then it's absolutely fine, and encompasses a larger range of motion.
I do lots of training with 40kg added weight repetitions(my own weight is now 68kg). I got the OAC when I was 22, and now few years after that I´m trying to get the skill and strenght back. Remember however that you are still very young and extremely hard chin up training can hamper your normal growth.
ah i know wot u mean thats wot mine did its a weird excerise but the other day it kinda clicked there not to good atm i cant get them from deadhang but shud be able to soon i hope :) yeh elbow tendontis is not good.. is it better now?
I can give you an advise-try puting your non pulling arm on your shoulders, maybe a bit higher if u need, and try to do an oac that way.get good at that and you will be one step closer=)Cheers
Some people need to serriously chill out. Your video is good. Who cares if you don't have perfect form on your muscle-ups? #1 you got your body up and over the bar and #2 you are not in competition with anyone but yourself. Screw everyone trying to put you down man.
P.S. Your OAC chins are great. Point your toes when you L-sit chin. Try doin L-sit pullups too.
r u retarded! wat has big jumps got to do with anything wen it comes 2 parkour! THESEVIDEOSAREWOW = stupid! training is just as important in parkour as the actual parkopur itself.
Gd luck on the training guys and bjlang they arent actually muscle-ups they may look like them but they flop over and touch the bar and then press up a proper muscle up with good form is harder than a OAC.
You'd say muscleups with proper form are harder than an OAC... are you mad mate? Hahah, the form on those ones is pretty poor yeah, tired, whatever excuses, I'll send you a video of some reps of perfect form ones if you like?
Nice muscle ups dude. I suggest bouldering with the emphasis on campusing for OAC training. Practicing routes with lots of lock-offs and then doing negatives back down rather than falling off. Can't beat a good day's worth of scaffolding work!
Thanks for the advice, bit difficult for me to start going bouldering without paying a lot for membership etc. Will find a good substitute to an indoor climbing facility.
If you haven't already look at beastskills._com (seems to be down at the moment though) as that has a great overall guide to the OAC. Also when you lower yourself with one arm (you have great form almost all the way down) try to avoid that little last second drop for the last like 2 inches as it can lead to elbow problems.
Ohhh haha, I got mine from a cheap clothing store in England called Peacocks, £5 each. They get a bit stretched at the knee and dis-shapen from training, but it dosn't really bother me. Can't beat cheap cotton jogging bottoms/sweats. :)
I also found I had to put more work in to grip training. The cool thing was - when I started training for them I was also training for one-armed pullups but gave that up to avoid overtraining. In the end however, the strength gained from learning to do one-armed chinups also allow me to do one-armed pullups! Felt like a Buy-One-Get-One-Free deal from Iceland. Good luck with them mate, if you need any more advice then get in touch.
yea, nxt time i see you i can show you loadsa exercises. well. afew from diving, have to come out with you and calum nxt week sometime b4 i go to south america.
I use a backpack filled with weight plates and I did 3-4 sets. I started with an amount of weight attached that allowed me to perform 5 repetitions and when I could do 9 reps I upped the weight by 5kg. I kept working up the reps and then upping the weight at 9 reps. I also did hanging leg raises and explosive pull ups for a few sets each after doing the L-chin ups.
You have a long way to go. I am doing those L-chin ups with 150% bodyweight for 6 reps and I can just about manage one. Also keep your legs up at 90degrees at the bottom of those L-chin ups.
I know Aldershot is liek really rough and that but training in a bullet proof vest? Peh i don't get you Teige you pussy. We need to train soon man, i lost my phone so i don't have your number anymore and my msn is GAY and i can't go online message me on youtube or phone me or something!!!
ARRGGH I've been trying to phoooone youuuuuu for evaaaaaarrr, wondering what's up with your msn too!! It's driving me mad haha, we've got all this time off school we have to train! I'm going to Guildford tomorrow with Calum and Toby and maybe Wen and Alex, can you make it, I'll try phoning your home phone in just a minute, please reply to thissss if you get it. oop1127 3 years ago
Assisted pullups. There's machines for that in a gym, or, at far less cost, someone can take some of the weight off his feet as he pulls up.
Then once at the top, he can perform a 'negative' pullup: coming down slowly, or as slow as he can, right to a dead hang.
Feed him some protein. =)
Goodluck.

Hah feed him some protein :P lol ok I will, thanks for the tips ill let him know.

How many chin-ups you could do with 10kg weight vest when this was filmed? I'm 14 and training for OAC and I can do like 8 chin-ups with weight vest.
By the way, can you do OAC yet?

They could also be a TON more jarring on bodies that are still developing. Strict bodyweight exercises are key.
You're about 20 years of age, right?
