Hahahahaha, if we sent a missionary to an alien civilization they would laugh and laugh. What ignoramus would believe in a god after making contact with aliens?
Don't you understand the real movie here? Jodie Foster's character Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway was loosing her job at NASA and her career also because you can't just go out and buy an array of radio telescopes so who came to her rescue? Palmer Joss, renowned Christian philosopher__yeah right. Ellie was surrounded by NASA aliens and was about to be eaten when Joss intervened
with the fake signal, etc... it was all fake and poor Ellie was being played by the Martian Klan__hah!
JF is an idiot for making this movie. She has no idea what it is really about even though she has been assimilated. Maybe she is an idiot assimilate? The movie is about an alien or Martian Klan evangelist that saves the little NASA scientists ass by playing her and making her believe that she actually found ET life when in actuality the ET life was all around here because NASA is really the National Alien Security Agency. I have a Phd so what I say is true.
That alien pissed me off thank fuck it did'nt pretend to be god! why did they send that twat woman?! they should have sent missionaries there eduacate the pompus vile shits.......then again it was based on that fools book.....Carl Sagan is a evil, vile man who does he think he is?! how dare he assume aliens are friendly?! they're satan children for fuck sake! vermin of the universe! Rather watch Mars attack than this bollocks!
@rsexplorer20 yes we are alone asshole! this movie was'nt based on a true story dickweed! Carl Sagan was probably pissed out of his fucking brains writing a shit story like this!...satans child! billions of galaxies?! you fucking liar!
@NobDickBalls The skeptics themselves are unaware that the real reason they fight the truth so vigorously is they cannot psychologically handle the weight of it possibly being true. This is why, as I always say, forgive the skeptics and the haters. No matter what you say or do, they will not change their beliefs until they are ready.Their minds will not allow the truth to be the truth, because the thought is too unbearable to contemplate
@NobDickBalls why would anyone send a missionary to another galaxy? why? i dun get it why u even think of a missionary. a poet, a historian, or a philosopher are far better candidates than a missionary.
@youstbi They need to know about god and his son fuckweed! then again no one should land on a satan planet ass shat! If fools would want to satan planets, they should bring the bible, knife and a cross! never trust a demon! lets hope these vile things are billion and billion lightyears from gods beautiful, rare Earth! what would a fucking poet do?! babble about shit to the vile thing?! historian? no chance in hell! demons do not belong in our history you fucking bastard! scum of the universe
@NobDickBalls Missionaries would fuck upt a pristine civilization with their babble about an imaginary son of God. All subsequent human travels would be forbidden :)
When she touches the proximity of herself, she sees ripples? Do you know what it is...???!! Hmm.. After watching this scene for a thousand times, I figured out that she was "Still INSIDE her Transit Module" The module itself is just projecting whatever the extraterrestrial civilization wants us to see. She went nowhere. They just made her mind see whatever is required. Its like an alien Cinema theater!! That's what it is.. Watch it again.. and like this if you feel the same... :) Thats just me!
@charlieking100 If that were true, then her recording devices would not have the subsequent 18 hours of static recorded. If the experience was solely telepathic, and she went nowhere and just dropped straight through, then the video device would have recorded only the couple of seconds it took to fall through. She did in fact travel elsewhere.
@ChiWehWeh Now How did I forget that part???... Damn... I wanna change wat I said previously. Its still a Cinema theater but she went elsewhere... They didnt want her to come outside and become a nervous wreck so they just kept the pod there and her inside it, and showed something to her.. Remember , the pod was changing its composition before she took off..what do u think about that explanation?
@charlieking100 Sorry, but i don`t think that makes sense cause the recording device recorded 18 hours of static. How can it record 18 hours if it all was made in her mind?
The only thing i can think of that makes sense is that she traveled in time and space. The aliens who made that happend dropped her back in the same time that she left when they were done talking. That way it seemed that it never happend, the recording device is the only proof.
Its maybe little hard for some people to understand what i mean, but just think little bit about it and it actually makes sense.
@1berat I know that. I was talking about when she was on the beach, that part, is where she was still in space at a distance from that galaxy. She has no gravitational field near her so according to general relativity, time is flowing superfast to her. She just missed a fraction of a second on earth, which resulted in being 18 hours far far away from a gravitational field. Surely, they transfered her back in a moment of earth time
the 'contact' she made with aliens was spiritual, telepathic, via the mind. the mechanism they built, is all a metaphor of sorts. Telepathy occurs through time and space, a righteous soul, shines across the universe, like the light of the stars, through the darkness of space. All these soulless, money grubbing cretins, are the darkness that his soul shines though to us.
At 4:05 The Milky Way galaxy, our galaxy. Everyone see the dark clouded area that cuts through the center? On 12/21/2012 our planet will begin its pass right through that dark center........
That's ridiculous, I wouldn't want to travel 26 light years to have everything kept from me. They should have let her see what their planet and species looked like. I wouldn't freak out, I would be really interested...anybody else agree?
@nickmooreimages No I do not agree with you. If you did receive a visual, human perception in general would only limit you to a small degree of another species perception which in this case is beyond our 3 dimensional 180 degree visual of everything. If she got sight of what they really look like she might not be able to take it emotionaly for like david morse said in this film: " You humans are an interesting species. You are capable of such beautiful dreams and such terrible nightmares".
@nickmooreimages It also goes to show you how much more evolved they are than us humans for they welcomed us into their world and did what they can to take us feel at home. Do we humans have that degree of ,to say the least, compassion? If they came to us we might want to cage "it" and cut "it" open...........
Thats a stupid thing for Jodie Foster to do , to touch and jab at the membrane of air bubble thats protecting her from the vacuum in space. I would have screamed for help or pinched my nose to be sure I was not dreaming ..
@uuduu7: You're kidding right? A mere 'air-bubble' wouldn't keep her safe from the vaccum of space, that scene is pointing out that she's still inside the orb-device, experiencing everything with her senses holographically. She couldn't physically leave the orb, which is why they let her 'experience' it all from within it.
Ok I see, yr perception is that she did not physically leave the earth , thats logical based on our human understanding becos the "machine" was filmed to have fallen thru the setup in an instant ..
but I don't think our "normal" perception is conclusive based on the "hours of static" recorded on Ellie's video recorder. Its alien technology here .. so to use human understanding to conclude that Ellie did not physically leave earth is presumptuous..
.. I think the director left open it as a mystery whether she physically left earth, even Ellie has to concede, as a scientist, that she do not have enough scientific proof of what happened despite the "realness" of her experience..
.. the director (or writer) probably is trying to say that (unlike the religious pple) we should should carry on searching for the concrete proofs (like Ellie does) instead of being overly reliant on personal experiences..
It is the most scientific movie regarding alien contact I have ever seen. Fuck the critics, the movie belongs to the group Space Odyssey, Bladerunner, Dune. End of story...
This is the Best movie about life after death and about the universe, in my opinion. Even the younger ones do not overcome. The music is great here, too.
no, "they landed" (there were five of them in the book) in a simulation that the beings gathered from their dreams. That is why the being appeared to her as her dead father.
when i watch a video once , that's cool. but when I watch a video for the first time and then watch it over and over and over ...says enough huh? thank you for this - its good- i love the movie and the music is great.
..they just weren't ready for it. We were still looking for aliens & rocketships when what we got was math & unexpected family reunions.
I think the movie really was showing us rudimentary Sacred Geometry, pan- dimensionality & physics / metaphysics, using Hollywood, as a "spoonful of sugar", personally.
Hadn't quite thought of that one, but , yeah, I can dig it! I saw something on the pineal gland & the "etho- trypto-" something or other, that chemically "cradles" you, in death & enlightened states!
@GCar35 That's because most Americans aren't intelligent enough to understand or appreciate the depth, complexity & sheer brilliance of this film. The movie Sphere was treated in the same way.
I believe that the reason that everything wobbles when she touches the sky is because that she is inside a special isolation skin protecting the planet from her human contact and/or germs etc..
That`s the thought I had anyway that the director was doing for this part of the movie.
This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies and
Jodie Foster is one of the most finest actresses to date.
you should read the book, it explains everything way more than the movie, but ya, the aliens didnt want her freaking out so they read her mind and put her in a comfortable setting. the beach and dad are a memory, she wasnt really on a beach
where was she then if she wasnt on the beach? still in that dome ball thing? i thought this film was great, but a little bit confusing towards the end. I might actually read the book. She could have been in another dimension! I hope we see other beings from another planet in our life time!
Well, it wasn't the sky that was moving, but the sphere she was in; it basically showed her an image on every side of the wall, and in the way the screen of a computer changes when pressure is applied, the image warped slightly...
Yes indeed this was a good movie, however unfortunately they dumbed it down quite a bit from the book, i.e. her dad never said anything about "Building the universe", and the code in pi, etc.
Def one of my fav movies.Jodie is amazing! and i love this scene the best.I wonder if there is other life out there, hard to believe there isn't with so much space and just us occupying it all.
oh my... im looking for this scene.. I saw this movie very long time ago.. 8 yrs ago? not sure. but since then that place marks my mind.. so fascinating.. you can touch anything
grazie per questo video, che ho scoperto solo adesso e che mi piace tantissimo compresa la musica che non poteva essere più azzeccata.complimenti sinceri all'autore, grazie
this movie is one of my favorites it didint reach the audience it should have, alot of people never herd or seen this movie and their missing out...it was on of the best movies in the late 90's, plus it really touches the imagination...
the aliens took her thoughts and used them so she would feel more comforatable in what she was seeing, so yes it was an alien but they were using her thoughts to portray a scene like that of earth.
Such a wonderful movie. Gets me every time. Jodie Foster is such a tallented actress. I bet every young girl wishes to be like Ellei Arroway; making that amazing discovery and actually being allowed to be the one to travel there herself. Wonderful.
I just love the movie. What if there is really something in outher space? What if we are just waiting for one incoming call? By the way, what is the name of this song? I just love it.
i do not believe that we are alone, the universe is massive, imagine a wee crumb on your floor, now imagine that crumb as planet earth, now imagine that crumb in our sea,now imagine our sea as the universe

this is my absolute most favourite scene from this movie... it is soooooooo beautifully created.

MrScottyMillz 2 years ago
Cool.
Thanks MrScottyMillz for that little insight from the book.
I wish that I had the patience to read story books but I`m more of a movie man to be frank.
I wish they made a sequel to this film.
Does the book have more to follow than the film does ?
hipstarchild 2 years ago
Unfortunately, no, although it would be VERY cool...
blazenclaw 2 years ago
where was she then if she wasnt on the beach? still in that dome ball thing? i thought this film was great, but a little bit confusing towards the end. I might actually read the book. She could have been in another dimension! I hope we see other beings from another planet in our life time!
jizzobizzo 2 years ago
Well, it wasn't the sky that was moving, but the sphere she was in; it basically showed her an image on every side of the wall, and in the way the screen of a computer changes when pressure is applied, the image warped slightly...

Nice, very nice, I Love this movie =)

This movie, and What Dreams May Come.....i rerember bottem line. Later on in memories, the emotion of seeing them is even greater.
anewunderstanding 2 years ago
Yes indeed this was a good movie, however unfortunately they dumbed it down quite a bit from the book, i.e. her dad never said anything about "Building the universe", and the code in pi, etc.

hehe i konw now in the begining there is a title :D

I haven't seen the movie, why is she on another planet just because she discovered some signal in space?
MagnusRulerHardt 3 years ago
The signals from space were blueprints for a machine. Jodie foster was chosen to be the one to get inside and so she got transported to this planet

this movie is one of my favorites it didint reach the audience it should have, alot of people never herd or seen this movie and their missing out...it was on of the best movies in the late 90's, plus it really touches the imagination...

I got quite choked up with this film, I think its brilliant!

the aliens took her thoughts and used them so she would feel more comforatable in what she was seeing, so yes it was an alien but they were using her thoughts to portray a scene like that of earth.

read the book -words cant describe the beauty carl sagan saw in his mind. the movie to some extent successfully translate that vision
