  • Johnny Olson is so funny!

  • wow how did you get this ?

  • Dear Philo Pharnsworth,

Mr.Olson was Mr.Gleason's announcer..on "Jackie Gleason & His American Scene Magazine"in NYC..before he went with "The Jackie Gleason Show"to Miami Beach,Fl.

  • Johnny's drunk. <3

  • @BaltimoreColt You think?!

  • The first host of syndicated nighttime version of"The Price Is

    Right!"was Mr.Dennis James..not Mr.Bob Barker.

  • @143AC A fact that's little known by so-called TPIR devotees.

  • LOL!

  • Thanks for posting this. Johnny O was always my favorite announcer and it's great to get to hear a warm-up, which I think was an important function of announcers that the general public overlooked.

  • I don't want to be mean, but Johnny sounds kinda drunk. Or, is it just me that thinks that?

  • Janet Himmlefartson lol

  • So great was Johnny O at warming up the audience that Jackie Gleason flew him down to Florida from NY every weekend just to announce Gleason's hit variety show. Johnny would intro: "From the sun and fun capital of the world, Miami Beach, we bring you... The Jackie Gleason Show! And awaaaay we GO!!!" With that, the audience would go absolutely nuts. All the others mentioned are great, but they would tell you, Johnny was the king.

  • My T.V. show here on YouTube mentions TPIR

  • LOL! Oh this is CLASSIC. He definately had a few more than he should have on this day.

  • "You'll All be lit....get lit......." CLASSIC! I think he was a little lit that night.

  • TO ANNCR. MIKE:>> Don't forget Gene Wood, Randy West and Burton Richardson!! ;)

Also Charlie O'Donnell, Johnny Gilbert and Charlie Tuna... Jack Clark too!

    ~JK~

    ~JK~

  • Also Jack Narz, Rod Roddy, Charlie O'Donnell, Rich Jeffries, & Bob Hilton

  • here are my faverite announcers Johnny Olson,

    Rod Roddy, and Rich Fields.

  • you should rot in hell for that comment

  • with no money via whammy (Rod also did PYL)

  • Just ignore the user who slammed Rod. That user's just being a prick.

  • I love Johnny he was the best!

  • @Arcadeblaster He was the "King of Game Show Annoucners!"

  • For those who don't know this, current announcer Rich Fields attended a taping of the show in 1978 (when he was 18), and asked Johnny O how he could get his job. Johnny then let Rich say "Come on down!" into his mic. Little did young Mr. Fields know that it would be part of his job some 25 years later. Ironic, isn't it?

  • So Rich Fields learned from the Best and the Original "COD" guy

  • I'm sure Johnny would be proud. I actually want to announce for that show as well one day! That would be cool! A blind game show announcer!

  • @bluebear1985 Very good, and Rich deswerved it. Not that clown that up's there today. And that includes the host too !!!

  • @yolichka1 Which clown announcer are you referring to? I'm not sure if they have picked a permanent announcer yet, but Drew Carey is getting better as host.

  • @bluebear1985 He's not the announcer anymore, thanks to mother fucking Mike Richards! >:'(

  • @Angie2343 I don't like it any more than you do. He was good on the show while he lasted though.

  • @bluebear1985 He'll ALWAYS be good!

  • @bluebear1985 Legend has it that @ that very taping, Mr. Olson gave Rich Fields some advice: "Don't get Barker mad.". How cool it must've been for Rich to have met his idol! Johnny Olson was definitely one of a kind! Johnny is missed to this very day. He was a broadcasting legend, for sure!

    R.I.P., Johnny Olson...1910-1985.

  • How did you manage to do this? Amazing! Well anyway, I went to see a taping of the Price is Right three years later (1978) and Johnny Olsen warmed up the audience. I remember them laying the song Disco Inferno by the Trammps in the studio just to get us warmed up.

  • lol at 3:12: "Janet Hymofartson!"

  • Johnny Olson...the best in the business.

  • there will never be another Johnny I do miss him so much...

  • Johnny sounded like he had a few drinky-poos to warm himself up before warming up the crowd.

  • Wow, one of the most interesting clips I've encountered on YouTube! THANK YOU for posting!

  • Sounds a little drunk ! Panning your pusies ! ( 1:58 )

  • It's Panning your pusses. Puss=Face but puss sounds like (kitty cat).

  • My hats off to you. You captured Johnny (Olson) in the best way possible. Now, how about the rest of the audio?

  • The fifth slide shows Dennis James, the host for the pilot

  • That's from the first episode of the 1975-1976 Nighttime Season from.

  • "The New Price Is Right" didn't have a pilot.

  • Technically not, but from what I have read, there was originally going to be just a weekly syndicated nighttime "Price is Right" with Dennis James; the CBS daytime version starring Bob Barker started out as a sort of afterthought...and ended up as an institution.

  • I heard that they didn't even film a pilot for it. They got it sold to CBS by having a pitch film shot about how it would be updated for the 70s, hosted by Dennis James and Mark Goodson.

  • For the nighttime syndicated version.

  • Rich is good. Rod was better. JOHNNY IS THE BEST!

  • Very cool to hear this. Johnny was pretty entertaining before the show, definitely better than Rich.

  • My goodness, Johnny sounds drunk, but happy.

  • HE WAS OUT OF BREATH FROM RUNNING

  • Johnny O(Olson) was THE GREATEST announcer. He is SURELY missed but, not forgotten.

  • I AGREE 100% JOHNNY WAS GOOD

  • he almost says pussy at 1:57

  • No, he starts to say "pusses". Puss is old slang for face.

  • Yeah but it's still funny either way.

  • This is a Fitting Tribute! To Johnny! I have heard Rod Roddy's and Rich Fields in person. Do you have one of each of them?

  • I was at the last show Johnny Olsen did for the Price is Right. I have it on tape here if I can find it I will put it online.

  • I want to see the last video. Im a johnny olsen fan. hes the best. then rod, and then rich

  • Outstanding clip, Johnny was one o' the great ones.

  • I got the feeling Johnny O!

  • yeah it was bob barker

  • Rich...that's the current announcer, right? Don't have much time to watch Price is Right nowadays, but if that's him, he doesn't hold a candle to the likes of Olsen or Rod Roddy.

  • Yeah, I've got the feelin', Johnny.

  • where did you get that 2nd dennis james one

  • I was also lucky enough to see Johnny Olsen in New York during the 1960s-early 1970s. Johnny was not only real, but he was colorful and a real class act.

I also had the privilege of interviewing Johnny for a class project in a college mass culture course. It would be great if a full version of this warm-up were available.

  • We got to expericence Johnny O here in New York years before L.A. snatched him away (just like the Dodgers, The Tonight Show, etc.). His warmup here is so much like he used to do for The Match Game, To Tell the Truth, Play Your Hunch, What's My Line?, et al. Believe me, he was for REAL. What a great, funny guy, classy, nice guy. Rich Fields? Like a colorless, indistinct piece of artificial sweetener. Fits right in with the Fremantle style. Where are you, Mr. Goodson? (R.I.P.)

  • Boy, I would have loved to have been able to attend a taping of TPIR with Johnny Olsen being the announcer. He sounds very lively indeed! RIP, Johnny Olsen!

  • @TerryT1976 I cerainly wouldn't attend a live taping of TPIR today, but I would, however, love to be present and walking around the CBS Television City building because of so much history that was made on TV got filmed in there.

  • where did you get the music?

  • At 3:12..."Janet Himmelfartsen!" LOL

    Wow. XD

  • I hope the full version of this warmup is out there somewhere.

  • I LOVE Johnny Olsen but he sounds DRUNK! I love it!!

  • He's probably catching his breath from running around. I've heard he did that in many of his warmups.

  • Wow! This is different than Rich! More to do with the winning than more about Johnny. At 1:56 he says Panning your puss...! Pussy! Funny!

  • i know it sounds bad but watching Rich's warm-up made me realize he sounds kinda fake to me...i like Johnny's better cos he just sounds so genuine and stuff, whereas Rich's enthusiasm sounds weird and almost forced. Meh.

  • What's this from the very first permanent hour long TPIR?

  • I think there is a video of a Johnny O warmup somewhere also. Cuz I sent Randy an email about it and he said it has been around for years

  • Who put that damn music in the background!?
