  • Thank You for Burning My Heart!! R.I.P.

    I Love U!!

  • There's an uptempo "The Love Of My Man" by Etta, have on vinyl. Its different to the ballad "The Love Of My man". It begins "The Love of my man, makes old Etta do strange things.." Has anybody come across a Youtube listing of it?

  • R.I.P. Etta a true legend !

  • GOODBYE MADAME HAWKINS .........

  • Vale Etta James. This's my favourite. Will be missed . . .

  • R.I.P. Etta James.

  • Anyone who is a big fan of Etta...including myself... will know that this fab artist was admitted to hospital earlier in the week due to breathing difficulties and she also has leukemia which is incurable!!

  • Come on people! You lost RESPECT for a legend because she wasn't happy that someone ELSE got to sing HER song at such a big event??

She has every right to be upset. She seemed cool with it when Beyonce was protraying her in a movie, but then Beyonce took it too far.

Etta should have had the honor of preforming her own song for the president.

  • I love her voice .

  • Another Great Music Legend Vanishes In The Sky... R.I.P, Great Etta

  • @psykomatik i don't think she's gone yet

  • Comment removed

  • whoa I am jammin to this!!!!....whoooooaaaaaa...what chall know about this

  • i agree with adele being the new etta james but you can nver beat old soul classic music like this back when people had real talent and real voices! i love adele and etta james both are fantastic

  • Before there was Aretha, Natalie, Gladys and ALL that followed, with ALL due respect.....THERE WAS ETTA JAMES!!!!!!

  • amazing how in 2011 we are still bringing colour issues up...jeez get over it...her voice is amazing,,,she should not have banged on beyonce and she is a diva...thats what they do...lol...when Beyonce gets old she will probably bang on some upstart who is trying to do her moves....whatev..njoy the music....

  • who wrote this

    JULLY BLACK OR ETTA JAMES

  • @kdudesmith100 Off course was not Jully Black.

  • Jully Black revived this song in '08 in Canada

  • ETTA JAMES THE QUEEN, THE ORIGINAL VERSION ALWAYS THE BEST.

  • Etta james is in the history books,I was back stage in Little Rock,Ark. in 56

she was young and a coming up star and I was blessed to be with another

group that was up coming. That was the good old days when music was good.

  • thats where David craig got it....

  • ~.♫ò♥.~ ETTA JAMES IS EXCEPTIONAL~.♫ò♥.~

In my opinion, not a single female artist

has sung with so much soul as Etta James.

Her voice is one which has travelled for many years

to touch the ears and lives of todays listeners,

and she will remain to do so for many years to come

Now that's a piece of pure heaven here on earth!

  • @Giavannanow Adele can come close

  • @thugbiz

    ahhhh ~ yes, your right.

    Adele is my generations Etta!

    .

  • Wow, I hadn't heard this song before today! It came on the radio whilst I was doing housework and I was dancing around my apartment. Tune! Love it when I discover a song as amazing as this. Happened a couple of years back when I heard 'The Snake' by Al Wilson for the first time on the radio. So rare that the radio ever plays a decent tune now! Etta James, truly sensational.

  • One of the contestants from American Idol sang this & I thought it was good, but she didn't make it to top 10!

  • @lac9252 That contestant on American Idol was Lauren Turner. She's a HUGE FAN of Etta's and hopes to bring her the recognition she deserves. Follow her on twitter if you want @Lauren_E_Turner.

    Etta is totally amazing!

  • @projectrobodon Thanks...it's a shame she didn't make it. I thought she was good.

  • Just heard Jully Black's version...the original is still the best!

  • Etta James...i don't know what to write .I don't find any words that may show my respect ,the feeling her songs give to me....

  • Get Better Etta My Prayers are out there to you and your family...

  • Jully Black does a great cover of this song. It's a great tribute to Etta.

  • What a cracking song straight into my favourites

  • Holy crap. My sister just got me into Etta James and I'm so pissed I didn't find this woman earlier. She's so fantastic!

  • Etta James is a hoot! I think they called her "Peaches" as a nickname, though I really don't know the origin of the name...

  • etta ROCKS,always did ,always has,always will;PERIOD!

  • i love this!song it is awesome!

  • i love this!

  • Quality post

  • Etta's father was the great Minnesota Fats professional pool player. Who for most of her childhood into adulthood would have nothing to do with her. That plays out in the movie Chess Records.

  • "Seven Day Fool," a Motown song, co-written by Berry Gordy, Jr.,apparently for Etta, as this Jobete Music published song was never recorded by any Motown act. Etta had Motown connections in recording 3 Motown songs: "All I Could Do Was Cry," "Money," and 'Seven Day Fool." Etta knew the Gordy family, as well as Marvin Gaye, then a member of The Moonglows, labelmates of Etta's at Chess Records. Etta briefly considered leaving Chess for Motown, didn't, as Leonard Chess "was like a father to me."

  • i love this song so much! is so addicting.

  • Holy Shit is she awesome. Not that I prefer her but I'd like to see Beyonce attempt this one. My opinion is Etta would own this one.

  • Etta you are great.

  • THE ORIGINAL BLACK DIVA. NOW YOU KNOW AMY(DRUNK)WINNEHOUSE IMPERSONATE RIGHT WHITE BOY?

  • @buddyeagle Etta's father was white, but why should anyone care Etta is one of a kind, Etta was/is a Diva before there were Diva's ! Thank you.

  • @buddyeagle She does not impersonate. Dumb racist piece of shit.

  • No she is not dead.

  • She is dead?

  • oh please stop with the race questions she was mixed race get over it most the time she wore wigs. now enjoy her music it aint what colour you are its called what moves you music wise and she could move a person end of so just enjoy ;) x

  • @loron21 you said it right, because all music is color blind.

  • hmmmm never heard of her until xfactor so had to look her up what a great singer as well..... having veiwed all comments as wel as to race hair colour etc? wel excuse me but any fool can see she is mixed race and it is not un natural for a child of mixed race to be blonde then get darker as they grow older as for the looking white when younger and darker as she got older have you heard of makeup? anyway race as nothing to do with music it is of no matter were she was from she is great x

  • No other artist can even come close!!! She is the best!! So sad that she got so ripped off.

  • jesus christ every single video of etta james has comments about beyonce and xtina..

  • @Amysing555 I actually think its a good thing that singers like Christina cover these songs, because a lot of this younger generation is ignorant about the past of music, and all they know is audio tunes..So if after seeing Christina or Beyonce perform a cover they go searching for the original and that introduces them to the greats. I am all for it. I am a Christina fan and the reason for that is because I grew up with this kind of music and old school r n b stuff, so i look for that in singers

  • @saffron1922 ooh i like your explanation! :)

  • Truley one of the worlds greatests treasures. She made big when the odds were stacked against her. That speaks volumes for her talent. I truely love this artist.

  • The only thing that matters is this woman was one of the greatest singers of all time. Get over the rest of it. Enjoy.

  • YEAH WAT A SINGER

  • i like the second to last picture of Dorothy and Etta after she left reform school

  • Etta James is half black. Read her autobiography. It 's wondeful.

  • @kw94544 NO SHES HALF WHITE. DONT TRY AN TAKE CREDIT NOW. REMEMBER SEGREGATED LUNCH COUNTERS AND WATER FOUNTAINS? WHAT

  • Tarantino would like this song... ;)

  • @Kippisz this deffinetly tarintino shit

  • oh WOMAN!!! what you have given us over the years!! one cannot measure..keep on doin it baby

  • Ms James,

What's done in the dark, ALWAYS comes to light. I know the truth now..... finally after 52 years. God is faithful to his word!! It's a pity, we may never meet.

  • she is fantastic!!!!!!!

  • THANKS ETTA I LOVE IT

  • kuul

  • Just discovered this. Love her tone of voice.

  • super sound

  • Always liked this song by the one and only Etta.

Here is Okla. City, it peaked at number 2 on WKY

    radio top fifty radio survey.

Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the wax museum on the big 1520 KOMA

  • Etta was sensational and nobody including Beyonce or Christina could capture the soulfulness and styling in her voice. Etta is one of a kind....an original. She had a sound quality in her voice that is magical.

  • @HandwhistlerBen I agree!!

  • @HandwhistlerBen Well I will disagree with you on the Christina part since Etta herself says she loves Christina doing her stuff, and the new release clip of Christina singing "Somethings got a hold on me" is damn good, I hear what you are saying though

  • @HandwhistlerBen : Yeah she all that but she is also a butt head. I’ve lost lots of respect for her since I heard her talking sooooooooo bad about Beyonce. She is jealous

  • please excuse the previous post for syntax and spelling errors...Trust in me...

  • AH LONGEVITY ...We must revere our national treasures and Missss Etta James is at the top of the list tas a[oster child for survival. Her legendary vocals is an exemplar, what rocking socking soul singing should be. I will not list all her students but there should be a special called Sanding at the feet of Etta"

  • She is awesome

  • No you dont heaar Amy on this track, she was to busy getting pissed.and shooting up...

  • this song is fire,

    sing it Ms James

who knows about being a 30 day fool? smh

  • I already knew Janis, Christina and many others copied Etta's style...but do I hear Amy Winehouse on this track??

To comments abt Etta's race..she was born to a 14 yr old African Amer girl in Los Angeles in 1930's (1938?) Her mom told her her father was a caucasian pool player...much antagonism tween the 2 of them over her never giving more info abt the father. Suffered MUCH in her 71 yrs..heroin, mental hospitalization..still belting em out!

  • No, because Amy is unique and has character enought to not fall into 'copycat style' ;). God bless them all tough :P

  • minnasota fats was her father

  • In other words - go to Wikipedia.

  • I got sceared at 0:45

  • Is she mixed race??

  • yes...her father was white...but never accepted her.,

  • Wow!

  • question

how come the first page of comments i see are all about her colouring.

who the hell cares about that when she sings like she does!!!

  • @disconnected84

(i think the blonde is fly...)our generations are a bung of copycats compared to these founders..i agree & love the blues definitley should be honored more

  • @disconnected84

(i think the blonde is fly...)our generations are a bunch of copycats compared to these founders..i agree with you & love the blues definitley should be honored more

  • @disconnected84 Totally agree! She could be green or blue for all I care, hell she could be green/blue, dressed in a sack of potatoes and singing the ABC's but with that voice and soul I would still enjoy it!

  • James and Aretha Franklin have somethings in common. They both can sing and they both were jumbo sized. I do not know how Etta can go from jumbo to skinny. Must be the you know what...

  • don't worry Etta: Jully sounds like Christina and we don't need another one............Etta still rules and always will because todays artists try like hell to copy her.

  • im lovin this tune. etta ur fkin AMAZIN

  • i like tina turner very much but etta james is THE ROCK CHICK

  • Love Etta James - superb voice....!!

  • that beautiful woman had light to blond hair naturally.............figure out the rest

  • no she doesn't, look at her eyebrows...her natural hair was nowhere near blonde.

  • well darlin' in 1955 when i first saw her...her hair was light light brown and she was always light complected.....and this was before bleach.........but you know better cuz of her eyebrows....

  • Comment removed

  • Actually back in the day, when first started wearing blonde she was wearing a wig., sweet

Yes she bleached her hair later, but her natural hair color was a lighter brown what they called back in the day a "sandy color".

And yes your eyebrows can be a different color than the other hair on your body naturally, some people have eyebrows that are two shades darker than their natural hair color.

  • As far as I know that was eyebrow pencil. To darken her eyebrows and lengthen them. I think it was just to enhance the 'cat eye' look she had with the black eyeliner.

  • dude, mine. my eyebrows are naturally darker than my natural blonde hair. but i dye it dark so it all matches.

either way etta was a cutie.

  • to mongo76 - why does her hair colour matter. just curious since it obviously means a lot to you...

  • This is to Mongo 76......... whom i have children older than he and show more respect. what the damn diff does it make if she was natural blonde or not. women color their hair all the time.....what the ass diff does that make.

she has made her name and still going strong....what the hell have you done? you have neither her money or fame.....so at least show some respect as i know your Mama or someone probably taught your sorry ass. you talk like 13 instead of 30 something.

  • Thankyou I agrre with you and person above you and the other 2

  • hey Donyel, share with me your fave Etta video's monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!!!

Etta has style beyond compare, thanks ((:

  • what now, will she get mad at jully black for singing her song too?

  • No, because she is making money from it !

  • i think she must really love her man because i wouldnt scrub nobody's floor except my own unless im getting paid for doing it but htis song is the bomb like.... tick... tick.... love it sevenday fool for her music and on a monday im gonna listen and on a tuesday im gonna sing it and on a wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday , sunday gonna love it sing it and listen to it awsome !!!!!!

  • i commend her

  • With that voice she doesn't need to have anything else. Besides she's not ugly to me

  • you're damn right, she's a legend!! she went thru a bad time, being a druggie and all. but i think she was very lovely when she was younger....and who gives a shit what she looked like? she could sing her ass off!

  • you can all blow me...ETTA IS A LEGEND!

  • if you cant say anything nice say nothing at all

  • OMG..120

  • :46....OMG...thats scary..Crack kills and heroin makes you look dead!

  • What are you talking bout?? She's not even on drugs there. She did drugs when she was young then went to rehab. She just looks like that now because she's older plus she had that surgery whereit took alot of her weigh. She still pretty to me. Get the facts not opinions on Etta.

  • Actually Etta was on heroin for basically all of the 60's and part of the 70's she didn't go to rehab until the late 70's After she was about to go to prison for bad checks. Her husband actually took the rap for her and did 10 yrs. I think it's something wbout the people who started out with johnny otis. Etta and Esther phillips both ended up on heroin. Then too all the young women who started out with a bunch of blues men for some reason ended up on heroin or some other drug.

  • Wow!! Where did you get this info from?? Is it in her book/?? I'm question you about it because I would like to learn more about her. I think alot of her personal blues come from her father not accepting her plus being mixed had to be a lil hard. But she started in the church and Im not sure what went wrong from then........

  • From her book and from interviews with her. I need to correct smthng, she actually didn't get clean until the early 80. In her bk she says her mom had a guy sent to prison for paternity and when the judge looked at the man, her mom and a blondebaby(her) he dismissed the case b/c he knew two blk prnts couldnt have a light blonde baby. I question blonde being her natural hair clor though b/c if it were naturally blonde, she wouldn't have had to dye it blonde. and it was definitely dyed inthe 60's

  • Even with two black parents....if there's white or light complexion somewhere in along the line it can show up anywhere. Basic biology. lol

  • Etta James most likely got white genes from Her white Father. That will happen.I'm not aware of Her ever wishing she was white, although She was mistaken for white when she was younger.

  • Actually Minesota Fats was basically rumored to be her father. I don't think her mother really knew the identity. I wouldn't say she wished to be white, but she did have a problem with racism in her career and not being accepted by fats as she thought he was her father. The incident i mentioned was in her book once an adult and she was touring. As an adult, she was not passable as a white woman by someone standing within 3 feet of her. She is light skinned yes but doesnt look causasian.

  • yes her book is awesome its called rage to survive the story of etta james very enthusiastic read man check it out u love it

  • Listen up folks !!....Ms Etta James

    :)

  • I love this song!!!

  • I kinda like this tune!! It's so old and rich!!

  • i love this so much

  • She looks like an Alien usually. But ok song.

  • She is a republican get over it!

  • oh is she? hmmm no wander........ u know what i think .... the thing is this.. the more u get old the more u get immature or lose ur mind u know. i think that's probably what happen to her. the only thing she got is voice, beside that nothing else she has. she is tooooo ugly. she should mccain's wife

  • gennet, no Etta just will not take any mess. And let's see how cute you look at her age!!!

  • lets not be rude now. She's actually pretty nice looking for her age. She was very pretty when she was young.

  • it's not about how she looks it's about how she sounds, which is amazing!!!

  • I dont care if she insulted the man who I personally wanted for president, shes still a damn good singer. And the fact that she can so openly insult our country's leader is one of the great perks of living in what is called a 'free country'

  • I agree with you. Though I think she was out of line for what she said and has no tact, it is her right as a citizen of the U.S. to say whatever she wants to say.

  • This is far better than Jully Black. lol Why did she even do a cover? Everything's the same but slightly worse. lol

  • Jully black has more voice.

  • Tyler Perry as "Madea" should have played Etta James in "Cadillac Records"

  • I luv her eyes their so pretty and her voice is so real and pure

  • i luv her music

  • Etta is beast but look how large her thighs are at 20 sec.haha!

  • my dumb ass brother wrote that using my account. but what's the big deal anyway? if she had big thighs she had big thighs. we still love her..lol

  • For the original just click on the blue

    DivaAnnFisher

    above.

    DivaAnnFisher

  • Etta James is a mixed race person with an African American mother and a white father who is reported to be the famed pool shooter Minnesota Fats. I believe he denied his parentage initially, and I am not sure whether he ever changed his story, but if you put Etta's picture side by side with his, I don't know that a paternity test is even necessary.

  • I don't care for artists F -N with perfection with covers ESPECIALLY with the likes of Etta James, takes alot a balls to even attempt it.!!!!! But I have to admit,I do like July Blacks version of this. at least she had the respect to keep it close to the original.

  • yeah i tripped out when i saw a pic too. i didnt pictre a black woman. but she looks hard core mixed white or something.

  • I'm loving her transformations*

  • at 1:05-1:16 you can tell she ment every single word she sang. I get chills everytime at that part.

  • she had gastric bypass surgery and she looks and sings better FAT! damnit etta why did u have to do it?

  • you know I dont blame her. is society the one to blame....

  • she got over 400 pounds she had to it was life threatening o.o

  • you have GOT to be kidding...

  • To me Etta's version cannot be touched, but respect everyones opinion, at least a new generation are listening to the the music us old soulies love, it would be a boring world if we all thought the same way

  • agreed. i wasn't putting this version down, it's a good song!

  • Jully has a good voice, but she lacks the soul

U could tell Etta lived the song, while Jully just sang it.

that's the problm with the singers our days

  • jully's version is better. people just like to give all the credit to the person who did the original song, but jully's voice is actually better in my opinion.

  • Etta James is also Black. (Ignorance must be bliss.)

  • @qqrk1372 Well her mother was of African descent but apparently her father was of European descent, Italian to specific. Just looking at her face can tell you that she is not your "average" African American. To describe human beings by colour (Canadian spelling :D) must be real ignoranace. One race; the human race!

  • @ahersi29 GROW UP CHILD! Grow up.

  • @ahersi29 Your "one race" prattle isn't just naive it's a COP OUT! people are different and that's fine. Different races, religions, ways of life. DEAL with it. Don't just bury your head in the sand.

  • @qqrk1372 I accept your opinion, now let's both get back to why we came here; to listien to an awesome song! :D

  • @ahersi29 Right on! ;-)

  • @qqrk1372 Different religions... yes! Different ways of life...hell yes! Different races... NO! There isn't such thing as 'races' as there truly is only one race... Sorry 2 interupt! ;-)

  • @jamz88888888 I came to this page to listen to a wonderful singer. Not to educate you little kids who want to pretend we're all the same because you're afraid of being different. Grow up. (And don't bother sending me a response. It will NOT be read.)

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Etta James IS black!!!!! Lord have mercy!!!!

  • what the fuck that mean!?
