My Papillon is a 6 month old male and he is (literally!) the most amazingly smart and well behaved dog I've ever met! He can learn any trick in five minutes and he never ever disobeyes me! I love him to bits!

A friend of mine has one of these, I generally don't like toy dogs but he was nice, he wasn't too noisy either, he quietly sat down and begged attention mostly. Although for some reason he decided to howl one night.
Beautiful little dogs. I recently adopted a rescued Papillon. Within a week, he has sorted out the household and has become my "Velcro Dog." He is definitely smart, responsive, energetic, and very, very affectionate. He has charmed all our neighbors and even my sometimes cynical husband. I am totally in love with my Papillon.
@elenimoxart i'm not sure what a furminator is is that like a tool use for pet hair? Also no my sweet Papillon Paris never shed when i pet her, but over about a year we noticed some hairs but not many like in the carpet not when she was pet. Just give them a monthly bath and brush them after the bath to get excess fur off and you'll be just fine. Also i was wondering where you planning on getting one because if so i can answer most questions. P.S. Mine is a girl so if you're planning on.... :D
@devinwatkins32 oh thats so sweet <3 you are really lucky...i'm planing to get one in some years cause now my parents cant get one :/ and yes that thing (furminator) is a tool for pet hair ..it takes out all the undercoat hair and leaves only the coat ..this is usually for dogs that shed a lot like a husky ..and thats why i asked cause a papillon is such a cute dog and if they shed ...and if you like to asweer my question,dont mind ..i have loads hhahaha:D

I got my Papillon for my birthday in January, and she is the cutest thing! She is VERY hyper! She never calms down! She is only 9 months old though. But I love her so much! Still having a hard time with training because she doesn't sit still! She does bark a lot though. But I love my little Lola :)
Papillons are my kind of dog. We're a like personality-wise (with my dogs anyway). None of my friends can stand them though haha. I have 2 papillons! I will always have at least one!
They truly are intelligent little dogs. Our Papillon is 5 months old and responds to 17 different commands currently. (sit, stay, down, twirl, come, stop, back, over there, heel, go to bed, leave it, drop it, up, off, out, go potty, bring it here)
We train with her every day and I've never had a sweeter more joyful dog! (I have a couple training videos of her on our youtube page)
you guys are lucky, my papillon barks at everything that moves and messes with my other dogs. shell put her dog treat in front of my other dog and when he goes to grab it shell start snarling at him

LOL protection. My papillon runs and hides and barks really loud if someone knocks on the door. And when they walk in and she doesn't recognize them, she runs and hides even further away. hahahaha.
My little Papillon, Mitzi, was just rescued from a puppy mill in December 2010. She is very timid and submissive though extremely sweet and intelligent. How can I help her to be more outgoing and less scared?
Oh Yes They Are Active xD My Papillon Knows how to Dry Himself ,we put a Towel on the floor and he rolls around it :) He goes crazy haha But he is still when we shower him. Whenever i give him a toy he rips it :o I love my Papillon
@LordOfTheRings9990 Offer to groom your dog and clean up her shedded hair. Sweet talk and taking over that chore should help, but only if you're genuine. And get support from family/friends who love the dog and doesn't want to see it go.

I got my papillion for 400 dollars. She is a pure bred, and I was lucky enough to know the breeder personally. I met both parents before she was born - she looks just like Dad!
Great little dogs - wonderful with cats. I got her when my old cat was 17 and in poor health and she was great with him. She seemed to know not to chase him or nip at him. She would curl up with him sometimes - so sweet.
She was great with the new kitten that followed. Kind of raised him like her puppy.
@seira1524 Well, they're considered to be semi-rare so it's hard enough finding a purebred. Ours was PB with a champion sire and she was two thousand. They usually go about four figures, from what I've seen. It's a bit of a splurge but trust me, you won't regret it! =)
I love my papillon. He is one of the the bravest dogs I have ever met. He even gets along with my cats! He loves to travel. I just took him with me on USAIR to Tucson and he was so good. He never made a sound. I think I may want a phalene too...

hey guys, considering getting one, are Papillons hyper or yappy? i like playful but dislike when they are jumping off the walls. and yappy is no good for apartments. what have been your experiences with the breed?
@Simsrockslol no, they aren't. Tests were done and thats that. Your poodle may be smart but it doesnt mean every single poodle in the world is. Papillons moved their title from 9th smartest dog in the world to 8th smartest dog in the world
@deathstarlover Poodles are #2 of the smartest dogs in the world, so I assume that counts all sized poodles. Personally though I don't think their is such thing as smart, just easier to train. Dogs strive to please their owners. How a hound dog pleases their owners is getting out there and catching that bird. How a border collie pleases their owners is by getting out there and herding those sheep. How does a border collie do this? Hounds = working alone Border collies = have to work with people
I've had other small breed dogs but none compare with the Papillon. Mine is the most intelligent, sweet, playful pet I've ever had. I could probably teach her to talk! I swear she tries. They're awesome!
I have a halfbreed Papillon. We're not really sure what his dad is. But he's slightly taller and his ears have slightly less hair. He's also colored black, with a white underbelly and the end of his tail is white. His left paw is brown, and he has brown eyebrows. He's such a sweet dog ^_^
I have a rescue puppy I adopted at 10 weeks as a long-haired Chihuahua mix. After hearing all the negative things about how they are very aggressive (Napoleon complex!), when I took her to a new vet the other day, I asked him what he felt she may be mixed with. He told me he'd be pretty sure she's mixed with Papillon, and after some investigation, I'd agree! She's a beautiful dog, and has a very sweet temper (Not the Chihuahua temperament at all. I'm really excited to see her adult fur!

ive had a papillon for 4 years i love this type of dog its real easy to train and barks if he hears anything which gets annoying tho >> but besides that i think its a near perfect dog

I was going to breed them, but since Im not a skilled breeder, I dont want to take the risk. Thank you!
@deathstarlover thanks! my poodle is eight pounds and is in the toy group ( or he was the last time we weighed him) and I was thinking about breeding the dogs once they got older, but since Im not an experienced breeder, Im not going to take the risk that something goes wrong.

ui love Papillons!! i have a 3 year old brown and white male named Tiny. he is 12 inches tall+weighs about 12 lbs. his fav thing to do is obsticle courses!!! (just cuz they're little doesnt mean they arnt great at agililtiy!!!)
Are they always so fiesty because my papillon Bailey is a year old and he is so fiesty to other dogs but loves to play with them but i have to tell people he isnt aggressive because he isnt. Is it normal for the breed?
@buffytariq my papillon is the same he wants to be friends with all dogs and people, and wants to play fetch as soon as he awakes even if it's 6am. His name is Prince Pasha (prince). If someone wants a dog that's good with kids their great, he's even friendly with neighbours cat.
@Boboua okay thanks a bit of a relief. He is at our yard all day for at least 5 hours just playing with our other dog Buffy who he adores so i don't know where he gets all of this energy from

her dad was a circus dog, so she can jump unuasually high!

I love my papillon. He is one of the the bravest dogs I have ever met. He even gets along with my cats! He loves to travel. I just took him with me on USAIR to Tucson and he was so good. He never made a sound. I think I may want a phalene too...

mdksmith09 - My papillon has hyper moments, but 90% of the time he is calm. He follows me from room to room, always wanting to be the same place I am. They are generally not yappy for no reason. Paps are protective & will sound the alarm when they hear something out of the ordinary, or if someone is at the door. They are very smart dogs and learn what's normal for their surroundings very quickly. My pap is a wonderful little dog. And this is coming from a person who loves giant breed dogs!

@Simsrockslol no, they aren't. Tests were done and thats that. Your poodle may be smart but it doesnt mean every single poodle in the world is. Papillons moved their title from 9th smartest dog in the world to 8th smartest dog in the world

@deathstarlover Poodles are #2 of the smartest dogs in the world, so I assume that counts all sized poodles. Personally though I don't think their is such thing as smart, just easier to train. Dogs strive to please their owners. How a hound dog pleases their owners is getting out there and catching that bird. How a border collie pleases their owners is by getting out there and herding those sheep. How does a border collie do this? Hounds = working alone Border collies = have to work with people

I've had other small breed dogs but none compare with the Papillon. Mine is the most intelligent, sweet, playful pet I've ever had. I could probably teach her to talk! I swear she tries. They're awesome!

I have a halfbreed Papillon. We're not really sure what his dad is. But he's slightly taller and his ears have slightly less hair. He's also colored black, with a white underbelly and the end of his tail is white. His left paw is brown, and he has brown eyebrows. He's such a sweet dog ^_^

I have a rescue puppy I adopted at 10 weeks as a long-haired Chihuahua mix. After hearing all the negative things about how they are very aggressive (Napoleon complex!), when I took her to a new vet the other day, I asked him what he felt she may be mixed with. He told me he'd be pretty sure she's mixed with Papillon, and after some investigation, I'd agree! She's a beautiful dog, and has a very sweet temper (Not the Chihuahua temperament at all. I'm really excited to see her adult fur!

I was going to breed them, but since Im not a skilled breeder, I dont want to take the risk. Thank you!

@buffytariq my papillon is the same he wants to be friends with all dogs and people, and wants to play fetch as soon as he awakes even if it's 6am. His name is Prince Pasha (prince). If someone wants a dog that's good with kids their great, he's even friendly with neighbours cat.

@buffytariq It's completely normal for Papillons to be very feisty and very hyper. Mine walks 3-5 hrs a day and then runs for 2 hrs in the evening.
