What really blows me away is the the pit's hitting all the notes...it's one think to push valves or hit a relatively large drum head, but to nail the keys in the dark means you REALLY have command of the instrument!

It was the last 5 minutes of rehearsal so all the parents were waiting for us in their cars, and after we got the lights back on the realized we had just gone through the whole show in the dark so they started honking their horns and yelling out the windows. lol
wow this happened at one of our evening rehearsals in marching band last year. We practiced in the parking lot and the lights went out during our last run through of the show. It is one of the greatest feelings in the world to have done something like that and be very succesfull at it.
that was a wicked night! The crowd was freakin awesome and we just kept getting louder and louder (not to mention faster and faster!)!!! I will never forget that one!
Thats incredible! The focus as a performer to have the light just go out and not completely freak out, let alone keep going and sound like that! Truly amazing!
Thank God someone recorded this. I don't think I would have believed it if someone had told me about it. This is definitly one of those things you have to see to believe it. Incredible.
@SPILLDRILL2 I would've loved to have heard Wayne's, ScoJo's, Scott's, and Gibbs' comments to you guys after pulling this off! I honestly don't think the we could've done this with the 84 corps...never even considered the possibility of losing the lights!
@claybo13 im not trying to hate but the blue devils have had alot of good shows but their show last year and thee show this year arrnt really 1st place worthy
AWESOME! Thanks so much for posting. I'm not sure I would have believed this actually happened without seeing the video. THIS is the stuff of Drum Corp Legend. What an awe-inspiring performance of a legendary show.
wow thats incredible! a) idk how they didnt run into eachother and b) the front ensemble did an awesome job since they can't see what notes they are hitting!
@overtonejunkie Due to losing the lights, the show was made into an exhibition....not quite fair the corps (all of them) to have it be a judged performance given the circumstances.
I understand the crowd was excited but they probably made things twice as hard by screaming. Not only could they not see, but they couldnt hear.

By the way, that is pretty freakin cool how they can still march with no lights. They are or must be precise!

what did the judges do during this?? looks like they're all hangin out by the drummajor...
overtonejunkie 1 year ago
@overtonejunkie I would not want to be on that field in the dark...among that drill...
captainunicycle 1 year ago
@captainunicycle ah, yeah. i suppose they got first place, as the judges didn't spot many if any deviations in marching style, crooked lines, ect.
