If there was an American version made, I wouldn't watch it either...the original is one of the greatest films ever made. Asian cinema is so refreshing after growing up with American films.

@Gr8Success , i disagree, the end is actually less sad than the rest of the movie i think, he does'nt remember all the awfull things that the "bad guy" (of course it's not that simple) did to him, and he can love the girl again, since he forgot who she really is (being carefull with the spoilers!) but anyway, this film is one of the greatest and sadest i've ever seen.

if theres anyone to breath back life into the terminator films its park chan wook. He could do wonders for the film and he could do it much cheaper. Oldboy was what 4 million to make and its fantastic just goes to say it isnt how much money you throw at a film that makes it good its the approach and style you adopt.

The reason why Hollywood do remakes is because some narrow minded people do not like to read subtitles or watch a film made by a different culture. It then appeals to the commercial market making it more profitable, sad really... no one could ever top the original.

You should also watch "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". You can also legally download it's soundtrack for free from the internet. It just seems that the English and even the Korean websites are offline...

yeah right, lady vengeance is great though it hasn't got the same (emotional) power and this unique caracters like in oldboy... it'd give the flick 10 out of 10 but oldboy is my favourite one :P

@equinox2244 I liked "I saw the Devil" (with Choi Min-sik, the main character from Oldboy) and also Thirst/Bakjwi which was directed by Park Chan-wook (who also directed Oldboy and Lady Vengeance).

Actually, the only movie i know of besides for OldBoy, which has a complete original soundtrack that is amazing and memorable from first 'till last track without sucking at ANY time, is "All About Lily Chou-Chou". God damn... The Cowboy Bebop series would be included on my list, if it was a movie :)

Have you checked out the songs from Lily Chou-Chou's soundtrack though? Do a seacrh for "lily chou wings" and pick the first track. ALL the music in that movie is cool like that, though the movie itself is only good (not excellent like OldBoy).
