  • Super excited to try this! :D Do you have any tricks for teaching them to shake their heads yes rather than no?

  • This gonna be the next thing to teach to my dog!!

    Thank you Emily!

  • You should hold another contest!

  • Hmm so I wud guess yes is pretty much the same thing? I would bring the dog under a table and put the postit on the table and floor hehe

  • This is so awesome! You should hold another contest again.

  • I have a bulldog, and its hard to teach him tricks because he's ignorant.. Alls he knows is how to give paw, and everytime i pull out a treat, his paw automatically comes up, and thats all he wants to do. Any suggestions on how to teach him somethin new?

  • love your videos

  • Its soooo cool. and your dogs are very nice! =)

  • once u teach the dog a lot of tricks, will they forget the earlier tricks?

  • Hi emily, im Slotglassesguy's little sister i dont have my own youtube yet………… but i love love love………your video's, and im getting a small chiahuahua too and i want it to look like yours :) and can you please make some more video's, i watched all yours in 1 day ;)

    From: Brenda

  • It was so cute when kiko pulled the sticky note off your knee. I love your dogs. Their so cute! I may be getting an Aussie. Any tips on training?

  • Where did you buy your treat bag from. I ask because here in the UK I cannot find one big enough and it is a struggle. Can you help please? Thanks Simon xx

  • 'Sabotage!' HAHA, I love your videos, and your training methods/philosophy. And I of courses adore Kiko the Sabotager! :D

  • Just started training my aussie this trick cant wait!!

  • I wana ask a question: "how to teach your dog to walk backwards?" :(

  • Is teaching them to say yes similar? Tried to teach my dog to say yes multiple times but we could never figure it out.

  • i have a 1 year old golden retriever and she is very very smart but shes a spoiled brat. she knows the clicker method but she only obeys the command when she sees me with food or the clicker, she doesnt offer the behaviour on her own. could you please tell me what i am doing wrong? thanks

  • i wanna shoke your inner purging cat.. faillure.. sad thing you haven´t c it on the other side, plz keep doing your work.

  • so how do your dogs know to shake their heads when you ask them questions? did u add cues? and what were they : ) (if you dont mind me asking of course!) GREAT VIDEOS BTW!!! My husband just bought me a puppy and cant wait to see what type of relationship he and i have i hope he enjoys learning tricks : D

  • Absolutely brilliant! You have inspired me! Thank you so much! I look forward to many fun training sessions with my future Border Collie!

  • that looks like fun!

  • ok, you get a thumbs up for this, very cool!

  • your video are so cool

    2:05 LOL !!

  • I was like WTH HER DOG LEARNS SO DAMN FAST and today I researched top ten smartest dogs.... Border Collie was #1...

  • Do i have to have a "clicker" or cant i just clap my hands or some other clicking noise?

  • So after they have the touching the target part down shouldn't you put a command to it that way when you say like "shake" or whatever conmand you use they will shake their head? Anyways I love your training tricks!

  • with a border collie you almost don't need patience, but with a post-it eating dalmatian you need a lot of patience :D But it's really fun to do it!

  • @HoneybunchBunny That's adorable XD

  • Are you going to make any more contests?? I like the idea of the ink sketches!! They are REALLY good!

  • I like it... I have no idea to work with targets but your video motivate me to try it!

    Thank you...

  • 1:09pm

  • Hello lol i'v never had any experiance in training animals at but i;v manged to train my dog to do high 5 each paw shake roll stay sit and double high 5 and in traing with bow so what other resanable easy tricks should i try to teach her

i was thinking head shake and im not sure for others what do you think

my cat copies everything the dog does soo going to get a double vid soon nd if can watch then great

  • this is awsome klkklklk this is a very kl vid but when i tried doing this my dog did not understand..... :(

my dog is not this smart>>>>

my dog only do every day is sleep ruin my bed and chew things

  • Really cool!!! I love the free training vids

  • gay

  • this vid was REALLY fun to watch. i cant believe how fast Splash picked that up. so so fun! and i think i'm going to go get a clicker today and try it out...ive never done clicker training but...you have encouraged me to at least give it a try! :D thx!

  • you make it seem so simple..great job, I love the positive reinforcement. on all your videos.

  • You videos are fantastic ! I stayed up last night watching many of them. I am so glad I found your videos while my pup is still young. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge !

  • is that cliker just for atention? i dont have one <.< i luv ur videos :D

  • @tokiiohotel4 no it's to help train your dog, the clicker is the equivelent of "yes" or "that's right"

  • Very good! Love the video! Will teach my boys it and my collie pup when i get her! :)

Something that did make me laugh was the fact that everyone is there going ' yes! Yes! yes!' while teaching there dog 'no'.

    haha x

  • This is an awesome instructional video!!! THANKS!!!!! :D

  • By the way- what kind of treats are you using?

  • i use tiny bits of meat, or else I use natural balance rolls, right now both of my dogs are obsessed with Kibble. dont ask me why...

  • lol my choclate lab pup and german shepard pup are obsessed with tiny bit of ham for treats lol

  • Im having a little confusion with the "say NO" trick. My BC touches the targets but what is the command you use to get them to do it once the targets arent there anymore and when should you remove the targets and start using a command? Is it a hand gesture? When should I start it? Thank You!!

  • remove the targets, but you can cue touch or point, if your dog stops offering the behavior. Another thing you can do is just leave the targets on the objects and move the dog away from them and click for not touching the targets.

  • Thanks for sharing your training tips on this. This is one trick that I have not been able to find any info on how to do...so THANKS!

  • COOL! But I have a question that you may have answered before, but Im not sure. Where do you get clickers? At pet storeS? If you dont know, i was gonna ask you if you can use like a snap or a clap instead of a click. Would it be easier, or would it just be confusing for the dog?

  • Amazing! You did a great job! You help me so much! I am going to trick my dog this:D

  • This is great fun to train. I have 4 dogs and 2 of them insisted the post it note vanished once attached to anything.

The only thing they can see it on is a black appliance - now my cooker and dish washer look like the back windows of our cars.

Thanks for giving all this great info for free. Know you made my 4 dogs very happy!

  • how can you make them to shake their head up and down? I love your videos!

  • All your videos are great! I learnt lot of things from your videos.

  • why not just "shake" the target, then fade away the target and tie to a command? Then you need not do this awkward setup...

  • LMAO @ sabotaged

  • LOL, I thought it was visually funny to see the video cut from the Big dog to the small pup with the two pink post its next to it's head.

  • Great! That's just amazing :3 . I'll learn that to my dog as soon as we get her :D . And i think i figured out how to learn them to say yes now ^^ . Thx again!

  • Great vid, when you have this done and they do it well, do you have to give a voice or hand command for them to do the trick without the targets ?

  • I love it! tnx

  • i just teach that trick to my dog it´s soo cute

  • Girl, you are gorgeous. I would kill for those cheek bones. Oh, and you're a great trainer, too! :)

  • Thats just what I was thinking lol.

  • OOoh, i get itt. xD

  • Comment removed

  • the clicker tells the dog "that was right. I like what you did" these dogs learn things faster. I train my Kooiker with the clicker, too.

  • HEhehe, this is cool!!! Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • wait. what makes the clicky sound

  • she has a clicker you can find it at most petstores

  • i really love your artwork

  • Love your video !

  • What Do i get If i show you The TRicks That I'Ve Been taught?

  • this is the most innovative video i have seen, great work, thankou.

  • lol that aussie is soooo cute!!!!!!! i love it!

  • thanks a ton! So simple, and explainitoy! Thanks for all your vids!

  • You are both a teacher and a trainer -is that the same thing?

  • Hey great series of videos. I am researching before I get a dog, because I believe that a well trained dog is the most rewarding and enjoyable. Your videos are the best that I have come across. Would love to see your "stay" video with sound. Thanks for taking the time and effort to help people enjoy their dogs more.

  • Hahahah I love the sabotage! Very cute. :)

I can't wait to get to this level of clicker training... I've only just started charging the clicker with one dog..and the other is just starting to get 'target'.

    Looking forward to more vids!

  • wow. i like it. hope my dog can do that

  • kinda cute hair cut

  • I sooo enjoy your videos! Keep them coming. I watched the very day you released your new show and I already can't wait for the next one :)

I would looove to see another contest coming up!

  • Great video. I am going to teach Snowy and Crystal to do that. Thanks for sharing

Kiko is so adorable lol I loved the part when she grabbed the pink "post it" from your leg. lol so adorable

  • Amazing all your work!!! I learn a lot with your videos.... So clearly. Thanks for all

    Carol & Dream

  • This is awesome! I'm moving slowly toward choreographing an advanced musical freestyle (dog dancing) routine with my Terv in which we are jewel thieves. Love the idea of us both scanning the room for someone who might catch us. This could work great.

  • that was so great. We just did a contest for another forum, gosh, was I stuck on brainstorming. I used hand target, but this looks like it would be faster. Can't wait to try it out!!

  • I was looking up drop on a recall and your video came up. I couldn't stop watching your other lessons. I'm a trainer who is pretty new to clicker training, and I have spent lots of money on books, but I learned so much just from watching these short clips. Thank you, I can't wait to try it out with my dog!

  • cool! Hey if you want any book recs. let me know, I know how it goes, its expensive! my main reason for making free videos. :) Not everyone can AFFORD to buy clicker training books and videos!

  • YOU are freakin AWESOME!!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • @nikenna Looks like a gay connection...

  • you should make more contests!

i didn't get to enter this one :P

  • There will be more contests to come! I have a bunch of cool interactive plans for next year!

    -m

  • Just started teaching my dog this trick but I'm using both my hands with treats in it as the targets. It's a bit difficult so I will try this method since she already knows the target trick. Thanks!

  • I tried that too, with little success, I also did capturing a look left and a look right with my chihuahua previously, and as you can see in the pervious video of head shaking, it just didnt look right, its not smooth.

  • Splash will be busy!

  • Gosh yes! She has been busy already, all my friends and family requested Splash paintings for Xmas! Poor thing!

  • Nice contest + video... :)

Just uploading a response. Hihihihi... :)))

    Greetings from Slovenia.

  • Nice job. It's not how Sadie and Lucky learned but it's good.

  • hello Emily this is awesome not just cause it a contest but i like looking for new thing to teach my dogs and have a task to do it in a certain amount of time this is AWESOME you should do more and get suggestions other dog fans for tricks to do keep it up.

  • Alice (the AUssie) will winn this - she spells better than me.

  • sweet! she will probably learn to set up the camera and film herself too :)

  • I'm quite excited by this Emily. We've just mastered Handstand and the next trick I wanted to do was just this one but I wasn't 100% sure where to start. So thanks, count me in - that's me being optimistic!

    Sue

  • And a lovely handstand at that!

  • Yes! Finally a video on how to train this... I tried this with a target stick with Bella, but her obsession with sticks ruined that idea (she kept biting at the target stick! lol)... I'm going to try that today.

  • Target sticks! Im sure it would work! They could be freestanding too

  • Yup.. I didn't get around to it, for now we're supposed to start the whole Susan Garrett 'Crate Games' since I got it as a x-mas gift last night.

  • early x-mas? How is 'Crate Games'? I was thinking of getting that, but there are sooo many books and vids I want!

  • It was an agility christmas party, and we did a gift exchange. :) It's interesting. It's the first Susan Garrett DVD I've gotten, but from what I watched, I like it. Both Zoey and Bella will be starting as soon as I'm off school for xmas break.

  • another cool trick! cant wait to teach that to Happy!

  • You should do a freestyle dance contest since you said this behavior can be used for that!

It seems like quite a few of your viewers do or are interested in freestyle! I know JustJesse is a dancing machine.

Crash and I are out of the running if you do, we aren't good dancers, unless you count the video of us linedanicng, hahaha :)

    Well just a thought. :)

    Sarah & Crash

  • Smile more :)

  • awesome. thank you for so generously sharing

clicker training skills. and making it fun.

have you ever seen people pinching the treat when

rewarding the dog. i've never understood why people do that. seems frustrating for the dog.

  • you mean not cutting the treats up beforehand? I do that every once in a while and my dogs dont like it and give me that look of 'give me a break!'

  • no, now what you're taking about. people do it with every treat no matter size. they pinch it

between their fingers and the dog has to struggle to get it.

not something i would imagine you ever doing. but i just wondered if you'd ever seen it, and knew what the purpose was.

  • great contest idea. It gives people motivation to get up and work with their dogs!

  • This sounds like such a great trick! I'm definatley teaching this to Clover!

  • Emily this video is great! Thanks for posting it! I actually used a post-it to teach cross paws following the advice on your video. I can see how a post-it can be useful for lots of tricks. Right now I am teaching Ricky to hide his head under a blanket with a post-it. I will start working on "no" today!

  • That is such a cool idea!

  • Oh damn, can't believe my dog just got neutered and he is still too moony to focus on learning. But there are winners already, right? Wow, what a competition!

We'll be ready for the next context!

  • thank you for neutering. that comes first.

plenty of contests later, im sure.

forgive me, but i know alot of people that still

    do not spay/neuter.

  • Yeah well, I support spaying/neutering, I think it's our responsability to neuter them or to simply don't let them breed. Since I don't want to have any problems with that, he's neutered. Breeding for responsable breeders. And funny tricks contest for calmer neutered dogs! :)

  • Emily - you are so creative with your training. I love it!! Thanks for the video. :-)

  • wow great video!

thanks so much for showing how to do this!

    Your dogs are soo beautiful!!

  • I taught this to my cat ^.^

He's still learning, but is well on his way.

By the way, do you know how do you teach a cat to meow, if he doesn't meow a lot?

  • Cool! Even a head turn would be amazing to me. :)

Hmmm... One way is to praise and give him delicious treats every time he 'offers' it, this should cause him to meow more and more, THEN you put a cue to it. The problem with this technique is once you start you have to finnish, otherwise you just get a cat that meows a lot whenever they want. (same goes for a barking dog). What if you were to hold a plate of kitty wet food or spend extra long making his dinner?

  • The only time he's known to really meow, is if there's a bug, or if he wants me to open the window curtains. And even that's not very often! xD (Not too vocal when it comes to food) And besides, if I make his food late, I'll be making our other four cats wait too. x3

I'll be sure to try this technique however. =3

  • pLAS,PLAS,PLAS,PLAS.....

This weekend i have my first competition but i promise i will make a video with this exercise.

    Bravo for kiko.... sabotaget... jejejejejejeje.

  • Good Luck! We will be waiting to hear!

  • wow, a winner already?? Looks like the pressure is on! :D Storms going to have to work his butt off cause I want one of those sketches ;)

  • I know Storm can do it! I was surprised there are 2 winners now. No worries, there will be another contest soon in the future, AND there is a new runner up prize to be announced tomorrow, for ANY dog that can get this trick in 2 weeks.

  • Hmm, I think I made it a video response... Maybe it takes time to come up... ??!

  • yeah she has to approve it, mine took awhile to :)

  • Oh good! I thought I had broken it! :P

  • You and Crash are winners so far! Just one spot left. Hopefully people wont mind if I check in the morning! That will keep the suspense going!

  • Wow Jedi learned that fast!! Uploading now!

  • Sorry for those who are out of town etc. There is a new twist! IF you post your dog doing this trick in the next two weeks there will be a prize for that as well!!! (not as cool, but still, if you can get your dog to shake their head in two weeks its worth SOMETHING!) Stay tuned for what the Runner up prizes might be!!!!

  • So sad -- you should start the contest on a Monday, not a weekend! I'm outta town competing all weekend :(

  • Ooh this looks like fun!! I wonder who will get it first, Jedi or Ahsoka!

  • I uploaded it as a video response. Hope u like it. It isn't the best quality of Crash but it works :)

  • I am concerned about my dog gaining weight because of all the treats he consumes. Do you use a special low fat/calorie treat?

  • No, I just take the treats out of their food (so I feed less when they get treats). In fact I use that Natural Balance Roll for treats, which is a dog food in itself, so for the 5 pound chihuahua, that makes up 1/2 of her diet.

  • YAY!! I love this trick, and the method is awesome!! Great job Splash! and Kiko!! Jesse and I need to start working on this trick =) ~Heather and Jesse~

  • Great method to teach the trick!

I'd love to enter the contest but I won't get back home and be with my dog until next Tuesday, boo :( I hope you have more contests this coming month, I'll definitely participate!

  • What a cool contest:) and method to teaching this trick:). Aren't tricks the greatest, most fun way to bond with your dog:). Tricks teach the dogs to problem solve and think for themselves, plus they are fun and help with confidence and body awareness for agility:). I will be teaching this trick to Kaine for sure:).

    Woofs n' Wags,

    Ashley & Kaine

  • I am actually impressed by this method! Did you come up with it?

Crash just completed all of the steps in about 2 minutes.

I am uploading the video as we speak.

Do you want the behavior on cue and without the post its?

  • Oh and just a tip for some having issues, Crash kept backing up so I sat him with his back against the wall and just moved the post its further out from him instead of back. It helped him a lot, you just don't get as much extension in the neck or the paw lifts. But maybe that will help some that are having issues.

    Great video!!

  • sos hermosa y trabajas muy bien.

  • Dang, I'm going to an agility trial this weekend... Are you going to have any more contests in the future? By the way, I just taught my new Chihuahua Titan to cross his paws by using your video thanks!!

  • Awesome! I bet this idea would work well for other tricks too. I liked it when Kiko grabbed the post-it, ha ha! Splash makes it look really easy :-)

  • That is such a cute trick. Pheobie and I will be working on it. I love how when Splash is doing it, Kiko is just walking around the place. Anyway, Pheobie and I will start on it.

  • haa awesome. you have so many little tricks! I'll try this tonight...

  • Flash does this so well....I've been working on it with Savvy but it's not coming along very well. We'll keep working on it though.

    Tammy

  • It's actually " Splash " not " Flash " (:

& Splash is amazing..I love how Kiko just steals the post it note!

    cute trick! (:

  • OMG, I'm so sorry, I don't know what was in my mind. Of course I know it's Splash, not Flash. Please accept my apologie. I think I was having s missing Shebang moment and my mind was elsewhere.

    Tammy

  • I know Tammy :) She is not offended. Its worse when people write down a comment and call her Slash, I think that would be a gross name, unless you were into heavy metal or something.
