  • Thank you for quoting John Calvin IN CONTEXT. Thank you for not falling for the same "butt" saving "but" that the others have put in after Justification by Faith, by saying that the truly saved child of God will do good works which flow from faith.

What they don't understand that the Gospel is totally separate from sanctification. The Gospel is what Christ did FOR US and is what saves us, Sanctification is what the Holy Spirit does IN US and the EFFECT of Christ;s work. It is not the Gospel.

  • I didn't just quote him, I read the entire sermon. It's in three parts. Be sure to catch the other two! (I notice the last one has zero views so far)

Amen for the gospel being what Christ has done FOR us. If it were not for that fact, I would have condemned myself countless times. It is ONLY because of the fact that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ (Rom 8:1) that I am ever confident enough to come back after I've sinned.

  • @ironclad452

Who are peopel that "are in Christ"?

  • As far as we can know, it is those who repent and believe on Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. However, not all who profess the Name of Jesus are truly regenerated

In short, I don't (can't) exactly know who are definitely in Christ. But I will treat all professors as in Christ to the best of my ability unless they live lives diametrically opposed to Christ or preach heretical doctrines not taught in Scripture (such as denying the deity of Christ or justification by faith alone)

    Thanks

  • "As far as we can know, it is those who repent and believe on Jesus"

How about those who have never even heard of Jesus? Can they "be in Christ"?

  • Are you a Christian?

  • I'm not. Is that somehow relevant to the question?

  • Sure it is. What is your motive for asking all these questions? Something tells me it isn't curiosity or a desire to learn (judging from your profile interactions) and I don't have the desire to defend my views with someone who's just pickin' a fight.

But to show good faith, those who have never heard of Jesus Christ cannot be in Christ. That would be a prerequisite.

  • I'm interested on people and why they believe how they believe. And maybe they would start thinking critically and rationally.

So those people who have never heard of your God are automatically going to hell. Don't you consider at least a little immoral dogma? I think it's sick.

  • Of course you think it's sick. You're unregenerated and at enmity with the God who created you

God has revealed enough about Himself in nature so that even those who have not heard of Christ know to worship Him. I think there is the possibility that some who have been given revelation outside of Scripture in some obscure places would be made aware of the God of the universe. We have examples in the OT of such events

Repent of your sins and believe Jesus is the Christ! You will be judged

  • Yep, for example us Finns have our own creation story and our own gods. And so do practically every different culture. The problem is, they don't really resemble your specific religion which you claim to be the only True One. So, either your Jesus did a lousy job revealing himself to other cultures or maybe religion are just man made concepts.

Funny thing about religions is that they cannot all be right. But they can all be wrong.

  • That is what is known as a false dichotomy, my friend. "Jesus did a lousy job OR religions are man made concepts"

There is a 3rd option: men willfully suppress the truth in their unrighteousness

A 4th: God wills some reprobate to display his justice

A 5th: the heart is an idol factory that worships other gods by placing things that aren't God in a pre-eminent position

I do agree that not all religions can be right, but only ONE has verifiable proof that someone rose from the dead

    SDG

  • What is this verifiable proof you speak of?

Do you mean the Bible? So you have a story (actually four contradictory stories) about this guy living (and dying) in the middle-east and THAT is somehow a verifiable proof?

I think you need to take a course on critical analysis. But then again, it would destroy your fantasy world so I doubt you would take it.

  • There is extra-biblical evidence for the resurrection of Christ

The claim of contradictions in the gospels is laughable! You have likely never even read it and are parrotting others who find the slightest difference and have a knee-jerk reaction to call it a contradiction

And don't bother googling for contradictions. I can just as easily counter them in the google war

Your blindness is due to your hardness of heart, not lack of evidence. Repent of your sins or face the wrath of God

  • "There is extra-biblical evidence for the resurrection of Christ"

    And that evidence would be...?

"You have likely never even read it"

Oh I have, believe it or not. And it has become more evident that credibility of the Bible is based on the fact nobody reads it.

And for example, on this important scene on Jesus' tomb, there is four totally different stories on what happened. Which one you prefer?

  • Google it.

As for your persistence that the gospels contradict, I will tell you that they harmonize and CONFIRM the facts contained therein. For had it been a contrivance or lie, their stories would have been more identical (as in exact). Because there is the differing perspectives, it instead adds to the credibility.

What is your purpose for commenting on this video, anyway? Divine providence has brought you to hear the warnings of the gospel. Repent and believe on Jesus Christ or perish.

  • And just to be clear, I do not mean to say that they DO contradict by saying they're not identical. What I mean (thank you 500 character limit) is that the nuances and differing perspectives are exactly how eye witness testimony sounds. One person noticed the red shirt while another thought it was more brown because of the shadows (or whatever). One person saw two angels while another only mentions one (if there are two, there most certainly is one) etc

But you must turn from your rebellion!

  • "But you must turn from your rebellion!"

So must you or you won't ever get to Valhalla! Thor is very angry with you and your false beliefs

  • "Google it."

There's really is references to that charachter which Bible refers as Jesus. And I have no problem accepting that. Stories in bible adds some mystical properties to him (like virgin birth and resurrection which we're borrowed from older myths),

I'm looking for verifiable evidence about the resurrection event, because that is what you made a reference to.

  • Again I ask. What is your purpose for being here?
