Yeah, I'm one of the few playboaters out there that does greenland style rolling. Most of the rolls I do on the river are quick and powerful but I know my technique will be there because of the finesse and form I've developed from greenland style. I defintitely think lots of different kayakers could benefit from refining their rolling skills and learning greenland rolls.
Thanks for the comment. Maligiaq is a several time Greenland national champion and I'm just a recreational enthusiast so of course he's better than me! I'm a big fan of Maligiaq and love what he did for the sport. As for rolling with a brick, for laybacks, that's actually an easier roll than the elbow and straitjacket rolls. Forward finishing brick rolls on the other hand are probably the hardest rolls out there these days. :)
He stayed with me & my family for a week while he was in Colorado, and I shuttled him around the state a bit as well. We spent a day going down a local river that was rain swollen, he taught me a few things... Most importantly, reversing the 'seal launch'... we had to throw our bodies up onto the bank while still in the kayak!! He'd never paddled "moving water" before. We arranged to have him camp at a local lake with the loan of 4 kayaks. He also carved a paddle for me. it's sweeeet 8-)
I like the fact that you do whitewater playboating too. The river paddlers I know really have little idea how many layers to rolling there are.

he also gave a demo at the Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club's annual Paddle Fest. He did just shy of 20 different rolls. Impressive.
You're very good yourself too, don't sell yourself short ;-)
