In my opinion, this is hardly a Clay Court Masterclass. He constantly closes the points in the net, the points are very short and Fed always goes for the winner. At any rate, it's a Tennis Masterclass, like so many he has given through out his career.
I don't know what Roger's training regimen is, but I think he needs to revamp his strength and fitness training to a new level. He just doesn't look as sharp.
@3timeMVPNash So then its mentally his lack of strength mentally? Or I guess you could say his age is showing more? Inability to adapt? Whatever the case, he doesn't look as sharp as he did in even 2008.
@2nadalfederer1 He's won many clay court tournaments, including French Open and being there earlier in the final. How can You say he's far away from that ? Only Nadal beats him on that surface.
Notice that whenever Roger hits a top spin he grunts just a little bit. This could explain why Nadal grunts a lot in his matches (although he has toned it down a bit). As a result of the body twist/rotation and power required to generate that shot, players grunt.
Btw Federer beat the record of most consecutive grand slam sets won by winning the first set (Mcenroe had 35, Fed 36). The funny part is he barely broke it (lost his next one 6-1).
tennis without federer is unimaginable, and I think it will lose a lot of its interest. but fortunately, he said that he will continue tennis as long as possible.
I hope 2010 will be a good year and that he will increase his number of grandslams.
T.T I totally agree.... I don't know what i'm going to do when federer retires.... i'll probably cry for 3 days and download every single video clip from youtube...... it's so hard to imagine for federer to retire....
@foul01 no hes going to make so much money from tennis that hes gonna pull a bill gates, having too much money so he devotes half of it to his charity
@foul01 agree.. truly all good things come to an end.. but though his career won't last forever, his greatness will. and i thank God that i lived in the "federer era" :-)
Actually, I think federer has always hit with a more spin prone forehand on clay courts since the last few years. Back in the day though, he used to play his hard court game on clay courts. It worked well until nadal, I think lol. Catching the ball early on clay caused havok against nadal, from what I've seen.
6:57 That second serve is amazing!

Federer is a snob
at the end, you can see how arrogant he is
the way he shook hand was not polite to his opponent

@pc2990 How, may I ask? Is he supposed to hug the guy?

holy crap there like 2 and half metres behind the baseline, thats why clay is so hard to play on

Fed is playing so much worse than this currently... hope that Fed can reach this level again (or surpass it) on clay this season!

Correction, Borg style forehand. It isn't Nadal's.

its so very difficult to imagine that one day Federer would eventually be too old to compete as a tennis player in the ATP.
his record of semi final runs at grand slams will eventually fall, his ranking will drop to two-digits, and he will eventually hang up his racket.
this is unimaginable
that one day the grace of such a player will forever leave the court.
foul01 2 years ago 42
@foul01 Na, I think Federer will be ranked around number 1 after he retires. The highest rank available to active ATP pros will be 2 lol.
