I wasted a lot of money on this game too, it was fun but hard to play - thoes missles would start coming in superfast in volleys of three, the player barely stood a chance; but I still liked it.
i just bought this arcade machine, the cockpit version..the screen definitely isnt that bright and colorful and its hard as shit to play this game...70 bucks couldnt pass it up
You snared a cockpit cabinet for 70 clams?!? Old-ass game with limited market for collectors or not, that's a fantastic deal. I haven't even seen a cockpit arcade machine since like '95 or '96.
You would not believe the trouble I had finding this game again. I kept looking all over the internet, and it was a screenshot of the ColecoVision port that steered me in the right down. Such an underrated, rare arcade game. But I did have the honor of playing it a few times in the arcade as a kid.
Subroc Turbo and Buck Rogers used variable frequency oscillators to control how fast object roms were read out of ROM as they were drawn on the screen. The lower the frequency the larger the object was drawn on the screen because it took longer to read from ROM as the scanline was drawn.
Very innovative for the time. Unheard of the history of video games. The first official 3D arcade game, but Sega evolved music in 1985 and kept on improving in graphics before any other company. In times like these, I wish Sega could make a comeback to the hardware industry.
I played Sega Subroc a 1000 times on the CBS Colecovision. This one plays smoother, faster and is more colorful of course, but I really enjoyed it on our little gameconsole :) Thanks for sharing this video. I've seen Subroc in the arcade at a funfair once, with real 3D glasses mounted in front of the monitor. The arcade cabinet looked ancient because it was way in 1988.

And this is from 1982! This hardware should be very, very expensive at that time
