Emily Shackleton did write this song and submitted it to American Idol, season 7, for the winners song contest. It did not come in 1st, Time of My Life won, but Dream Big was in the top 10 and as such, was offered in the list of the top 10 songs, to both of the top 2 contestants. They each had to pick a song from that list to perform on the final night of competition. Dream Big was originally a country tune, but when David Cook chose it he put a rock spin on it and this is his version.
