My conclusion for the Resident Evil (or Biohazard) video games franchise is that the earlier releases of the video games give the players the feeling of dread and horrific situations, but the later releases are more action-oriented.
This track plays when your in the mirror hallway, with the Crimson Heads that occasionally decide to rampage through the hallway to slaughter you... And it's also one of the most atmospheric tracks in the game, I think.

The first Resident Evil is and forever will be the best survival horror game I've ever played. It was terrifying, but purely creative. When I first entered this old mansion I never though I'd end up fighting a giant snake, sharks and a huge plant.
This Soundtrack for resident evil rebirth has been made re-taking some of the original Resident Evil 1 (1996 ) sound .. they had worked over the first floor mansion theme ( The Night Begins ) e su Second Floor Mansion ( Wandering About ) if you hear these two soundtracks of old resident evil you will listen how similar are them to this one .
Um a bit random but why in the blue hell is jumping all over the world by scooter in the video suggestions by the side of this video? its like its saying If you like this piece of music in resident evil then your bound to love this next piece from scooter?? What the hell!
This is a true Resident Evil game, the REmake was the only truly scary game of the series, and a huge part of that was the immense soundtrack that came with it, this is what Capcom needs to be making, something that is authentically scary.
RE 4 may not have had the same terror as the older games, but it did at least try to scare you at various points, and it did have a good atmosphere (it's certainly thrilling).
RE 5 was pretty disappointing in that regard, while it's a ton of fun in co-op, it never feels like they're even trying to scare you now (disgust you, maybe, but there's not even any attempt at scares).
@Abazigal Hey, don't be afraid to admit. Resident Evil 4 was an awesome game. It was original and it maintained the survival element of the classic games. If you listen closely, the music in RE4 sounds almost identical to RE3's (but mostly in the background.) As to where RE5 has completely broken off from RE's classic scare factors. I felt like Re4 was a Spencer Mansion scenario, especially in the castle.
I do completely agree with you, Resident Evil needs to be scary again. REBOOT RE6!
RE1 (the remake) had the feeling of being stranded and alone in a hostile place.
RE 0 had a feeling of delving deeper and deeper into very dark places (Code Veronica had a similar feeling)
RE 2 had a feeling that nowhere is safe (not even the loading screen) and that you're surrounded (RE 4 has a similar feeling, taken to the extreme, with danger at all sides)
RE 3 of course had the terror of being endlessly chased.

It is my belief that the game, Resident Evil 4, fails as a survival horror game and as a Resident Evil game. As such, I am going to explain why I feel this way. I’m going to break this explanation down into three sections: why RE4 fails as horror, why it fails as “survival”, and why it fails as a Resident Evil game. Shinji Mikami was not happy with RE4, He mentioned in the interview back in 2004 after Capcom threatened to ended RE series.RE 4 beta verston was what he was happy with but Capcom decided to take over resident evil 4 and change it. He left capcom shortly afterwards.

@tokiwartooth95 I'm not getting involved in the fight going on here, but I will say that it's not Mikami's decision to re-release RE4, it's Capcom's. Capcom own the rights to the Resident Evil name, so they will do whatever they want with it. Shinji Mikami had a different idea for RE4 (search RE3.5). Capcom hated it. Mikami was forced to change it to suit what they wanted. That's how it works. That's why so many developers have left Capcom to do their own thing. They're sick of the greed.
@mrdark279 It was more Kamiya's ideas that became DMC, not so much Mikami's. I'm talking more about the other 2 builds (the fog version and the hooked man version) which already had Leon in them. Dante was to become a main character for Res Evil, a sort of demon detective, but that was what became Devil May Cry
@GaminexPro It's because RE4 wasn't a Resident Evil at all. And it wasn't a game as Shinji Mikami, the original RE producer and designer, meant it to be. He came up with a whole different kind of Resident Evil(search RE3.5), but the other producers and financers didn't think it would be profitable nor would it attract a large audience. And I certainly don't complain about RE4: I think it was outstanding, but just not a real survival horror RE.
@Gemberaapje That's the annoying bit. They keep coming out with fun games like RE4, RE5, The Mercenaries 3D, Umbrella Chronicles and the Darkside Chronicles. We keep buying them because...well...there's not that much to complain about with these games. They are good titles (RE4 is a top game of all time imo). And since we keep buying them, and stammer to come up with reasons as to why they should not make them, Capcom keeps churning them out. Its a difficult situation for us REmake fans.
@Gemberaapje It's true that Capcom put pressure on Mikami to make a profitable game and attract large audience but Mikami was still the guy who came up with the new camera angle and change of pace in the gameplay. In a way, Mikami (the original creator of the series himself) managed to both save and hurt the franchise. Save = RE4 sold well and made RE stay relevant. Hurt = it paved the way for an even more action heavy entry with RE5 which Mikami didn't like actually.
@Gemberaapje I agree, the difference I think is in the first 3 games you feel trapped where is in 4/5 you feel like a killing machine. I really like the imagery of the later games though, RE is pretty great for having consistently interesting enemy design. The plagaheads/iron maidens/bug flying things all come off pretty threatening, although not really scary. One of my favourite game series, REmake will always be my favourite though.
@Gemberaapje I think I read somewhere that RE 3.5 was Leon's investigation into the Spencer estate. Somewhere along the way Leon gets infected by a virus and all that supernatural shit he was to deal with are just side effects of his infection. Much, much better plot in my opinion than RE 4. I guess it's kinda cool that they somewhat recycled it in the form of RE 5 DLC.
This theme in particular is so chilling, it honestly unsettles me a little by just listening to it, which fits perfectly with the more dimly lit hallway. You get the strong feeling you just stepped into the wrong place to take refuge from the creatures outside, even more than you did with the first game.
The picture in the video, which depicts the proper location that goes with the song, is a nice touch.
I'm glad I got Resident Evil Remake, because it's such a masterful redesign of the classic game. The altered puzzles, the new areas of the mansion, the improved graphics and in particular the more atmospheric music were all masterfully done and proved that CAPCOM were still capable of making a proper survival horror game that could challenge and creep you the hell out at the same time.
i agree. this game is my favorite in the entire franchise. though i loved re4, this one stands out for me. heres hoping the future titles go back to being dark, atmospheric and scary!
This is the Mansion Second Floor (1st visit) theme. Their's also a theme heard during the revisit when the Hunters are roaming the Mansion. These two themes are the scariest in the game.
Y'know something funny? This song was very relaxing for me... As opposed to areas where there was no music or even creepier music (eg The aqua duct -.- Fucking sharks...). It always reassured me that the hallway had one of two things: zombies or NOTHING. Maybe it wasn't that specific reason but I find this song reassuring for some ungodly reason...
I mess the good ol' fashion-RE....back when it actually was a survivor.horror game/series. You know, with the creepy music, like this one, and with difficult puzzles, non-unlimited ammo, ZOMBIES, things popping out at you/strange, sudden noises, must I continue?
this game is the best resident evil hands down! 3rd person prespective is the best game mode for this game plus it has load of suspence. and also they should make an online game out of it. being in different rooms. etc. not hanging around with the other player like a keychain like RE5. Jesus christ. The original was so fucking hard. Like, I've beat Hunks Scenario from RE 2. Beat Professional mode on RE 4, beat all the mercenary games on RE 3, but every time I play RE:DC on standard I ALWAYS get my ass kicked (less so with Jill, though)
@TaurusType I'm in a similar boat as you. For me, I have completed Original Mode on all three difficulties and Arrange Mode on each difficulty except Hard. I never completed it. One day I'll emulate Director's Cut on my PC like I do the other Resident Evil games and finally conquer it.

This atmosphere is a huge part of RE's identity that definetly fits a survival horror.
The producers of RE remake managed to make a excellent game.

This Soundtrack for resident evil rebirth has been made re-taking some of the original Resident Evil 1 (1996 ) sound .. they had worked over the first floor mansion theme ( The Night Begins ) e su Second Floor Mansion ( Wandering About ) if you hear these two soundtracks of old resident evil you will listen how similar are them to this one .

This is a true Resident Evil game, the REmake was the only truly scary game of the series, and a huge part of that was the immense soundtrack that came with it, this is what Capcom needs to be making, something that is authentically scary.

RE 4 may not have had the same terror as the older games, but it did at least try to scare you at various points, and it did have a good atmosphere (it's certainly thrilling).
RE 5 was pretty disappointing in that regard, while it's a ton of fun in co-op, it never feels like they're even trying to scare you now (disgust you, maybe, but there's not even any attempt at scares).

@Abazigal Hey, don't be afraid to admit. Resident Evil 4 was an awesome game. It was original and it maintained the survival element of the classic games. If you listen closely, the music in RE4 sounds almost identical to RE3's (but mostly in the background.) As to where RE5 has completely broken off from RE's classic scare factors. I felt like Re4 was a Spencer Mansion scenario, especially in the castle.
I do completely agree with you, Resident Evil needs to be scary again. REBOOT RE6!

Every Resident Evil has its own atmosphere.
RE1 (the remake) had the feeling of being stranded and alone in a hostile place.
RE 0 had a feeling of delving deeper and deeper into very dark places (Code Veronica had a similar feeling)
RE 2 had a feeling that nowhere is safe (not even the loading screen) and that you're surrounded (RE 4 has a similar feeling, taken to the extreme, with danger at all sides)
RE 3 of course had the terror of being endlessly chased.
All great in their own way.

@Gemberaapje Let me give you an example of why your logic is wrong. say a game like Grand Theft Auto 4 was made to be a sequel to Pong, It's nothing like pong, would that make it a bad game? No, it would still be miles better than pong. And using a shitty camera angle and bad controls doesn't automatically make it a scary game, RE4 managed to pull off horror but with GOOD controls. I love Resident evil, but RE4 is simply the best in the series by far.

And saying that you mostly just fight infected villagers is just like saying you mostly fight Zombies in the original Re, it doesn't make any sense.
Shinji Makami doesn't hate RE4, you just pulled that out of your ass.

Shinji Mikami was not happy with RE4, He mentioned in the interview back in 2004 after Capcom threatened to ended RE series.RE 4 beta verston was what he was happy with but Capcom decided to take over resident evil 4 and change it. He left capcom shortly afterwards.

@tokiwartooth95 I'm not getting involved in the fight going on here, but I will say that it's not Mikami's decision to re-release RE4, it's Capcom's. Capcom own the rights to the Resident Evil name, so they will do whatever they want with it. Shinji Mikami had a different idea for RE4 (search RE3.5). Capcom hated it. Mikami was forced to change it to suit what they wanted. That's how it works. That's why so many developers have left Capcom to do their own thing. They're sick of the greed.

@mrdark279 It was more Kamiya's ideas that became DMC, not so much Mikami's. I'm talking more about the other 2 builds (the fog version and the hooked man version) which already had Leon in them. Dante was to become a main character for Res Evil, a sort of demon detective, but that was what became Devil May Cry

@GaminexPro It's because RE4 wasn't a Resident Evil at all. And it wasn't a game as Shinji Mikami, the original RE producer and designer, meant it to be. He came up with a whole different kind of Resident Evil(search RE3.5), but the other producers and financers didn't think it would be profitable nor would it attract a large audience. And I certainly don't complain about RE4: I think it was outstanding, but just not a real survival horror RE.

@Gemberaapje That's the annoying bit. They keep coming out with fun games like RE4, RE5, The Mercenaries 3D, Umbrella Chronicles and the Darkside Chronicles. We keep buying them because...well...there's not that much to complain about with these games. They are good titles (RE4 is a top game of all time imo). And since we keep buying them, and stammer to come up with reasons as to why they should not make them, Capcom keeps churning them out. Its a difficult situation for us REmake fans.

@Gemberaapje It's true that Capcom put pressure on Mikami to make a profitable game and attract large audience but Mikami was still the guy who came up with the new camera angle and change of pace in the gameplay. In a way, Mikami (the original creator of the series himself) managed to both save and hurt the franchise. Save = RE4 sold well and made RE stay relevant. Hurt = it paved the way for an even more action heavy entry with RE5 which Mikami didn't like actually.

@Gemberaapje I agree, the difference I think is in the first 3 games you feel trapped where is in 4/5 you feel like a killing machine. I really like the imagery of the later games though, RE is pretty great for having consistently interesting enemy design. The plagaheads/iron maidens/bug flying things all come off pretty threatening, although not really scary. One of my favourite game series, REmake will always be my favourite though.

@Gemberaapje I think I read somewhere that RE 3.5 was Leon's investigation into the Spencer estate. Somewhere along the way Leon gets infected by a virus and all that supernatural shit he was to deal with are just side effects of his infection. Much, much better plot in my opinion than RE 4. I guess it's kinda cool that they somewhat recycled it in the form of RE 5 DLC.

This theme in particular is so chilling, it honestly unsettles me a little by just listening to it, which fits perfectly with the more dimly lit hallway. You get the strong feeling you just stepped into the wrong place to take refuge from the creatures outside, even more than you did with the first game.
The picture in the video, which depicts the proper location that goes with the song, is a nice touch.

I'm glad I got Resident Evil Remake, because it's such a masterful redesign of the classic game. The altered puzzles, the new areas of the mansion, the improved graphics and in particular the more atmospheric music were all masterfully done and proved that CAPCOM were still capable of making a proper survival horror game that could challenge and creep you the hell out at the same time.

This is the Mansion Second Floor (1st visit) theme. Their's also a theme heard during the revisit when the Hunters are roaming the Mansion. These two themes are the scariest in the game.

Y'know something funny? This song was very relaxing for me... As opposed to areas where there was no music or even creepier music (eg The aqua duct -.- Fucking sharks...). It always reassured me that the hallway had one of two things: zombies or NOTHING. Maybe it wasn't that specific reason but I find this song reassuring for some ungodly reason...

this game is the best resident evil hands down! 3rd person prespective is the best game mode for this game plus it has load of suspence. and also they should make an online game out of it. being in different rooms. etc. not hanging around with the other player like a keychain like RE5. Jesus christ. The original was so fucking hard. Like, I've beat Hunks Scenario from RE 2. Beat Professional mode on RE 4, beat all the mercenary games on RE 3, but every time I play RE:DC on standard I ALWAYS get my ass kicked (less so with Jill, though)

@TaurusType I'm in a similar boat as you. For me, I have completed Original Mode on all three difficulties and Arrange Mode on each difficulty except Hard. I never completed it. One day I'll emulate Director's Cut on my PC like I do the other Resident Evil games and finally conquer it.

I was trying to tell my boyfriend who never played RE 1-3 CV, don't get what Resident Evil is from RE5 because they are very different. He liked Dead Space so I told him, that is what Resident Evil use to be. The Dead Space people liked that so they put it into their games. I didnt want to play Dead Space because it was scary as shit when I saw him play it and now I am just to get that feeling back.
