  • I love this song. I live right up the road from Rome, so it's kinda cool

  • Great song and a wonderful album!! This and These Days are the highlights!!!

  • Laid Back is beyond words! Nobody who likes the Allmans can deny Greggs solo ALBUM! Thats right VINYL!

  • HAVE OWNED LAID BACK AT ELEVEN TIMES YOU SHOULD "LOAN ME A DIME" BOZ SCAGGS AND DUANE ALLMAN PHENAMONAL

  • i still have the original album. fantastic music. gregg allman is so talented.

  • thats not Leon Russell.....get your facts straight before you post!!!!!dumb ass!!!!!!

  • GREG IS A POET, AND THIS IS DEFINATELY GREG NOT LEON

  • One incredibly sad yet beautiful song. For some of us that still remember riding on the Greyhound back in the day we could have been Greg in this life story.

  • ohhh i love greg allman and the allman brothers band! Such beautiful music!

  • each instrument has it's own beautiful story. loving this song

  • Incredible!

  • Doesn't anyone notice that this is a picture of Leon Russell.

  • @JRJJams Uh!! That ain't Leon dude! That's Allman!

  • @JRJJams That's Gregg Allman.

  • One of my all time favorite songs... and singers. Still missing Duane too.

  • those were the daze.. hehe

  • Saw him in concert a few years ago and it made me cry when he sang this song. He is one of a kind.

  • gregg allman, one of the best singers you'l get

  • oh wow......I had forgotten this jewel......sail away with this one......

  • 1 person needs help in life.

  • Hands down singing the blues for a long time, will never forget an interview he did in 1973 talking about the roots of the AB music steeped in the blues and he's got the classic Gregg raspy voice going and then he goes"then the damn Beatles came out"and just chuckled a true classic

  • One of my favorite all-time songs.

  • GREGG IS ONE OF A KIND

  • i always loved this song

  • Nice. I remember growing up to this. Seen Greg one day at Spengers in Berkeley. He was eating lunch with the boys. Only one person noticed him besides me. Would loved to have spoke but he went for the bar. Greg is good. Way underrated.

  • This is the best song ever, Gregg is wonderful

  • My college days were filled with wonderful times with this music

  • a true songsmith. a naturally gifted multi-instrumental talent with a voice like an archangel helping anyone caught in a moment of self doubt to see themselves as able to realize they have "two strong legs and even wings to fly".

i think ghandi would've had a gregg allman playlist.

  • @journey46 Beautifully put Journey!

  • I did not know that I could get a CD of Laid Back!!!! I still have my cassette tape of it and it is all I listen and at my worst days of life, it somehow keeps me holding on a bit longer. I have had so much trama, grief and loss and hit at a crosswalk waiting for light to change and went through windshield and landed 50 feet and now have Complex PTSD. The month after getting out of 2nd hospital, my best friend came at 10p.m. to take me riding and it was like 30 outside, I had him play Melissa

  • @playboycountry ~ I Met Gregg & Duanne Allman Whem I Was A Very Young Girl in my Mama's Livingroom. They were practicing. My sister went out with Duanne a bit. I feel in love with Gregg over the years & loved his beautiful long blonde hair & bleu. I'll never forget climbing into his lap & putting my arms around his neck. He squeezed me & gave me a little kiss on the top onmy head. I was just 10 years old. I carried that moment with me forever. ^..^ sk

  • @StevieKhane ~ I have always felt that he should have been mine..Of course that's silly but that was how I felt.Years went by & I became very depressed in college. Couldn't get it together. After months of listening to Laid Back I climbed out the Window of the fifth floor of my dormitory/. Stood on the railing of the balcony during Muli-Couleured Lady & Thought I Will Fly Away From This Hell.

  • @StevieKhane ~ But My Mind Started Flashing Back To Sitting in Gregg's Lap as a Child & I Wasn't Able To Jump. Duanne's Face Flashed in my Mind & I Came Back in. I've Always Wondered Was It Gregg or Duanne Who Brought Me Down Off The Edge..I Was That Multi-Couleured Lady That Night & Yes...Oh By The Way...I'll Go To Rome..:) ^..^ sk

  • Please play this song at my funeral..........I will be well served........

  • Man this is such a great, great song, by such an incredibly talented artist, off one of the great solo albums of the era, and there were more than a few........

He sure was taken by Cher........

  • This has always been one of my favorite songs.........thanks for posting this version its a little dif. than mine.

  • Gregg has the voice of an Angel!

  • Gregg has the voice of an Angel!

  • one of my favorites, and i'm very picky

  • this is my all time favorite gregg allman album to date. wore out 6 albums when this first came out. still have 2 of them as happy reminders

  • Laid Back is one of my all time faves, great great singing.

  • epic

  • Havent heard this in a long while , great tune thanks for posting.

  • This is a great version of the song...I have several from all the different recordings and even the demo versions....no matter what...this song never ever gets old...I highly recommend his new CD Low Country Blues...I've had it for almost 3 weeks now and I can't stop playing it!

  • God, what a voice!

  • gregg so glad you are healthy this is one of my all time favs!!

  • Greg Allman is a f*^%ing legend!!

  • The whole Laid Back cd is great. If you're ever in Macon, Ga be sure to visit The Big House, H&H , and Rose Hill Cemetery. Awesome places!!

  • I live in nashville. my wife wanted to go to savannah this summber and i looked on the map....an hell yes. we went right through macon. she is chinese and only knows the allman brothers from knowing they are my favorite band for all the years she has known me....got to go through the big house on the way there...and on the way back i talked her in rose hill cemetery in return for taking her to margaret mitchells apt in in atlanta.....man...finally completed my pilgrimage

  • THANK YOU for Finally posting this song, and it's great quality, too. I was 13 when this cd came out and it's always been my favorite, over all the other music I love...every song on it is amazing and touching.

  • try solo playin up a storm ,1979

  • I had the opportunity to travel with the band on Gregg's Laid Back tour, my bf was the sound tech on this tour...... greatest experience of my life!! The Cowboy Band along with a horn ensemble and string section and featured Chuck Leavell on keyboards..... (Chuck now plays with the Rolling Stones) all accompanied Gregg on this tour. This was an amazing tour, and the beginning of many changes to the ABB

  • this is better for my blood pressure, oozes relax.

  • Love this song!

  • @jellyjukebox Same here :)

  • Did anyone ever see them when Duane was still alive? What a great story and memory that would have been.

  • @MoexxMoe This was made after Duane died. It was off Gregg's solo albums called "Laid Back" It's a great album. If you like the Allman Brothers you should defently take a lisen. The album isn't really ripping guitar solos and things like that. It's more of Gregg just singing.. Amazing album.

  • Thanks to Gregg for shooting himself in the foot back during Vietnam. He might not be with us if he didnt. Can you imagine music without Gregg or the Allman Bros.?

By doing that he actually changed history, although he didnt know it at the time.

  • I was 15 when I saw the Gregg Allman, "Laid Back" tour in 1974 at Miami Marine Stadium(Gregg w/his band & 24 piece orchestra on a huge floating barge w/ palm trees in front of the stadium) The "Laid Back" album is a true American Heritage classic. Every song on the disc weaves some kind of story that brings about redemption with a Southern feel that's undeniable. Producer Johnny Sandlin took his time and miked the session old school style to bring out lots of hidden nuances. Check it out...

  • @robertdeltajohnson One of the best albums ever for sure - those songs sing to my soul.

  • It's ashame that i have to listen to the old stuff to enjoy music. Most of the stuff that comes out today does not deserve to be called music.

  • I just saw him 3 years ago again - saw so many times back in the day - he did this and I about lost it. He still sounds so great - did all those great songs from Laid Back and lots more -I would say don't miss the opportunity to see him still - up close and personal concerts.

  • I have to say that I fell in love with Gregg listening to this song so many years ago. And I agree with brushtrailman; he is the best blues singer. A lifetime of his music is what I want.

  • I have to say that I fell in love with Gregg listening to this song. An I agree with brushtrailman; he is the best. A lifetime of his music is what I want.

  • Laid Back is better than most brother LP's

  • I can listen to this album over and over and it always brings me to tears..

  • I have been a huge fan of Greg, and the Bro's for years... I have seen them in concert a few times,, but i have never heard this song before.... GREAT TUNE!!!

  • Will always love this song more than you will ever know.. thank you for post.. this old pic on film brings back memories indeed.

  • @theinfernalhess. Yah, I didn't get it either until I listened to queen of hearts. There's all kinds of blues, acoustic delta, missisippi, country blues, electric blues like SRV, BB king, Clapton, etc but Allman definitely got a bluesy soul. their licks. Gregg's first guitar teacher when he was 13 was a black gentleman who took him to the other side of the tracks and introduced him to blues, soul, etc. That probably helped shape his songs.

  • I'd have a hard time labeling Gregg as the best blues singer ever, but for what he does and his style he's awesome :)

  • Thanks so much for sharing this, in such good quality. I had almost given up. I didn't think many loved this song.. Glad to see others do as well as I do. : )

I saw Gregg several times and even met him.. He was sad that night waiting for his man to show up w/ what he needed. He was still nice, glad I didn't go w/ him as I was invited. I would have asked him to sing anyway.. Not sure he had that in mind. Still love him, though..

  • Laid back....Just gorgeous...One of my favorites...Sing it, Gregg.. Sooth my mind, always...

  • Thanks for sharing this...I really wanted to find the song- It was a "theme song" back in my days...

I drunkenly climbed up on the stage and asked him to play it at the Flying Dutchman in Charleston but some of his band didn't know the song.

He stopped security from taking me off the stage though.

I love this song. Even with 19 years sobriety lol.

  • It was written for his ex wife Janice and was on the "Laid Back" album.

  • This is YOUTUBE isn't it? Geez..I have the track in many different forms..looking for the vid.

  • Thanks for the song bigdave. Any idea what the song was inspired by?

  • such a great great elpee ... this track queen of hearts

    these days

right around this time dicky put out 2 solo elpees himself

they re both great too but you can really tell the different

styles they both had - just completely apart

dicky and duane both gone from the band now ...

gregg remains and this song is such a perfect example of why

    that is good

    peace

  • I live 15mi. from "Deveraux", mentioned in the song, and 30 miles (in the other direction) from Macon,Ga. There is a country store there with maybe one gas pump and a drink box called the "Deveraux Mall"!!! LOL!

  • I wore out the 8-track twice.

  • oh man this song is so beautiful, it makes me cry

  • the best blues singer of all

  • @brushtrailman lol really?! he's great, but blues...?

  • wow... thank you..used to listen to this everyday...damn, time fly's.

  • fly's doesn't need and apostrophe but i'm 17 and love this song because my mom she raised my on classic rock

  • God Bless your Mom. I too raised my daughter on classic rock, she is a bit older than you, I could be your grandmother :) My daughter is not such a big fan.

  • @bill0chatham

    She raise MY?

  • I have both: the LP laid back and the Live Album. I have my doubts as to the USA, but wonderful music like this only comes from over there. No other region of the world produces such music.

  • saw him back in the mid 70's he is great.this was my late husbnads fav alman song!!!

  • Hey, wscotty9, they just dont' have this man's soul to sing from. Love to hear this voice!

  • just picked it up.....rock solid album

  • Listening to this.. Why is alot of today's music so angry, hateful, nasty and just plain not that good?

  • Saw him sing this a few weeks ago...he sounds just as good as ever.
