  • what were the transmission options in the 8970's? Is a 24 speed a powershift?

  • Its somewhere in Eastern Indiana

  • where is this i have one just like it

  • Both the 8960 and the 8970 got the Cummins 855 cid diesel.The 400hp 8970 got a power bulge feature added to it as did the 8570,8770 and the 8870

  • 8960 and 8970's had cummins from the factory. jd used n14's to replace the v-8's in the 8850

  • my 8970 gots triples it is one bad jd

  • mine does to pullin a 32 foot ih disc

  • how much horsepower does it have I pull a 26 foot deere disc with a 4560 it only has 160

  • yea they claim its a john deere look on the side of the engine block and its stamped cummins its an N-14 we use to run one.

  • No matter what it sounds great!!!!

  • great sounding cummins in that 8970!

  • LOL! Not a Cummins, unless it was a repower. Has a 14L Deere diesel.

  • Hmm..could be. I have a 8960 and it has a Cummins in it. I'm not sure on the 8970 though.

  • The 8960 would've come with the same Deere engine from the factory as that 8970. I know Kinze has repower kits, at least for the 30-50 series tractors.

    Deere has used N14 Cummins engines in some of their self-propelled silage choppers, but they pretty much use their own engines.

  • Yeah, you're right. I have a 7800 silage chopper with the N14, and it does have a slightly different sound to it. I guess that the 8960 had an option of either the Deere engine or the Cummins or something like that, since mine has the Cummins (according to the engine's name plate), and it's stock straight from the factory.

  • I sent you a friend request. Really have me curious now.

  • The farmer I work for is up ~3500ac himself.

  • LOL Thanks!

  • Ok everyone lets get this straight!

    8960=855 Cummins

    8970=N14 Cummins

    Same engine yes but the N14 has an electronic governor. I don't know where you got the idea that it had a Deere engine. There was NOT an option for a Deere engine in either tractor. Another thing, Deere could not make an engine that good even if they tried.

  • great and perfect from türkiye...

  • nice we need more

  • Look at that Deere smoke!!!! :P

  • That 8970 sounds great!! Thanks for posting.
