  • Truer words have never been spoken.

  • Was that a quack at the very end? IT'S NOT JUST A CHICKEN! IT'S A DUCK TOO!

  • @spacecowboy5000 If you watch some videos of Penn on the YouTube channel "bigthink," you'll see the "asshole" shtick is only one side to him; there's a compassionate and insightful thinker inside him that sees more of the big picture most people ever will. As you can tell from this video, Penn is no vegan or animal rights activist, but remember, his perspective comes from a different view of life than the average vegetarian's. He's not trying to be an asshole.

  • Oh, look at teller's smirk on his face ROFL

  • Yeah but penn i disagree with the killing of chickens everywhere as well. How would you like it it's horrible.

  • @owenrhysmagic

true. im veggie but i thought it was mad funny, his point is taken. people have different placement for life on the vaule scale.

  • @owenrhysmagic Life isn't possible without something dying, like Penn said grow up it's just a chicken and they're nutritious and tasty

  • @MrROTD So are people.

  • @owenrhysmagic its just a chciken

  • @owenrhysmagic killing other creatures for nutrition is why we have incisors. it is part of our natural diet.

  • Make the raising and slaughtering of chickens a spectator sport, or at the very least, media entertainment, and see what happens.

  • @ehcmier why would we do that? u crazy

  • So a sentinent life which feels pain doesn't deserve any sympathy because it is, to put it in Penn's completly logical and ethical language, 'just a chicken'. You can do exactly the same thing with humans. It's just a Jew, therefore it's okay to kill, it's just an atheist even. When the word 'it' is used it completly transforms them into an object. Well Penn if you're ever in a case where you're being ripped apart I guess it would be justifiable to shout 'It's just Penn Jillette'

  • @fistfulofknowledge You're really out of your mind. You're comparing a mindless, domesticated, flightless bird to a human being? Penn never mentioned Jews or "just" Atheists (thanks very much)... YOU did. Your argument is nothing more a than a load of self-righteous ass gravy. A fist full of knowledge is about all you've got. The rest of you is just uneducated, narrow-minded ignorance.

  • @spacecowboy5000 So one being deserves less respect why? Because it belongs to a different species? That is speciesism, a bigotry like any other. Despite what ever foolish pride you might have about humans having more moral worth than other creatures, a chicken has the same capacity to feel pain as humans and therefore should be considered. My argument puts both on the same level in order to show how malevolent Penn is acting here, it's simply a more socially accepted malevolence.

  • @spacecowboy5000 Also I think it's you and Penn who are being the narrow minded and self righteous ones. Firstly you restrict your considerations of what life matters to your own species for no given reason. If you said why I might have a slight bit more respect for you and Penn, but you didn't. In terms of self righteousness you consider humans to be of more moral worth than others. I think that constitutes self righteousness to the extreme.

  • @fistfulofknowledge First off, let's make one thing clear: the human race is the most destructive and SELF-destructive ever to walk the face of the Earth. I have no love for them and think they fully deserve the inevitable destruction that faces them. That being said, a stupid bird that has been bred for consumption for over 10,000 years and who is already overpopulating the planet doesn't exactly amount to anything. I mean, a chicken has a memory of between 20 - 30 seconds!

  • @spacecowboy5000 It's not a question of how intelligent it is, nor how much memory it has, nor indeed it's contribution to the world. It's about pain and suffering, something which chickens go through their entire life from being cramped into terrible conditions to their slaughter. I think your views border on the nhilistic and quite callous towards life, something which is posses as much threat to the world as over expansion and pollution.

  • @fistfulofknowledge You should really bend your efforts to animals far more worthy of your support. The number of endangered species grows my the hundreds every day. How about speaking out for those poor creatures. Finally, the trick in question is an illusion and no chicken is harmed in any way. After doing research, I found that the same bird is used for thousands of shows till it's retired to a nice farm. Penn is being his usual sarcastic self. Meanwhile, I'm preparing for the apocalypse.

  • @spacecowboy5000 I speak out for endangered species as well, perhaps even to a greater extent since the danger of them disappearing is greater. That doesn't mean I view the life of an individual dolphinor panda as being more than a chicken, just that the danger of these creatures eing lost forever is so great.. If the chicken wasn't harmed then I see no probelm with it, it's just that this video put it that way, alas I personally can't find speciseism as being funny.

  • @fistfulofknowledge All illusionists, magicians and two-bit hacks are required to register their animals with what is, essentially, an animal "union". Penn was insulted that people thought he would actually harm a living creature and expressed himself in his usual sarcastic manner. That's all. While I understand Dr. Ryder's views on inter-species discrimination, the word "sentient" sticks in my throat.

  • @spacecowboy5000 If that's so then I've misunderstood Penn and probably owe him a bit of an apology if so. The fact is though that such a thing could be taken as serious because speciesism is something which is a societal norm. Nonetheless I can't blame Penn for that.

  • @fistfulofknowledge I admit that even though I love Penn and Teller, Penn comes off as a bit of an asshole. But that's his "schtick" while Teller never speaks a word. Believe it or not he used to be even more confrontational. He's toned it down over the years.

  • @spacecowboy5000 If you watch some videos of Penn on the YouTube channel "bigthink," you can really tell the "asshole" shtick is only one side to him; there's a thinker and very compassionate, open-minded, intelligent person inside.

  • @fistfulofknowledge When humans stop hating and killing each other over race & religion it might be they might be ready to take on speciseism. At the moment, we are to immature as a species to really do anything about others. It's not that we're more important. It's that we have absolutely no idea what we're doing. Nature has always been able to recover from the worse catastrophes, from killer meteors to ice ages she always wins. She is THE boss.

  • @spacecowboy5000 I want to get rid of those problems too but progress had been made in those fields to a great extent whereas speciseism still has a long way to go before getting rid of. I don't think we're too imature as you say, I certainly think humanity has some good things, but I agree that most people are generally amoral most of the time in that they'll follow any social code or hedonic urge. Still that gives more reason to care and do something rather than stand back and be like them.

  • @fistfulofknowledge Those who take up a cause and really stick to it are definitely unsung heroes. But, as you've said, we've become such a hedonistic society. We consider ourselves the "ruling" species but also forget about our responsibilities. We are the stewards of this planet, not its owners. We need to own up and take on these responsibilities and that would be best for us and all species of this planet.

  • to those people who didn't get the message,

    It's just a chicken!

  • Soooo... It's just a chicken?

  • However it is also true that a cockfighting rooster has a much better life (and possibly death) than the chickens we raise and kill for food-yet the ultimately kinder bloodsport (who's adherents take good care of their birds) is illegal, while most of the rest of an appalled society looks the other way at how the chickens we breed(&hence responsible) are treated and slaughtered. We need a Temple Grandin-who revolutionized cattle welfare in handling&slaughter-for chickens.

  • "Just a chicken" is not an excuse or explanation for anything-no science, no verifiable facts-such as nervous system and capacity for suffering. Still much to learn though as science recovers from the American brand of behaviorism that made taboo of researching that animals have "feelings" at all, and still bandy about unverified or premature conclusions about brains as if they were science. That's bullshit!

  • Just a chicken? So are you Penn, so are you. You know they used to use children in sacrifices, I mean come on, its just a child, you can always have more.

I do like him but he's still a stupid prick

  • @deluxeaction did you just compare child sacrifice to killing chickens?

  • @Skelt92 I most definitely did. In a past age it wouldn't have been so controversial to sacrifice a child and certain cultures would have glorified it (the concept of "sacrifice"). Clearly today we would consider such an act as exactly similar to any other type of Murder in the 1st degree. Who are we do decide that a chicken is less deserving of its life than we are? I think only the hardcore religious get to use that argument (its in the bible somewhere).

  • @deluxeaction but children feel pain much more than the chicken? but children have conciousness? but children understand what is happening? there is absolutely no grounds for you to compare painful human sacrifice to the probably humane killing of chickens. and most of all chickens are almost always breed to be killed and eaten, unless they are breed for production of eggs, but even then they will still be killed in the end and eaten.

  • @Skelt92 You can't prove anything you say about children or chickens. In the grand scheme of things, there really isn't much difference. To see a child killed for no reason upsets us, but the reality is that in a hundred years nobody will care. Once you leave the emotions behind there isn't much difference between children and chickens.

  • @jacksawild you are such a moron.

  • Teller trying not to laugh? haha

  • Do you know when this was shot?

  • @TDWPfan94 It's from the India episode of "Magic and Mystery Tour" which came out in 2003. imdb.com/title/tt0398512/
