Just finished going through all the Chaconne performances on this site. My favourites are Arthur Grumiaux and Gidon Kremer.

In his EMI dvd booklet somewhere says: "he didn't record [...] or at least the grat Chaconne".

I have been told, that Bach wrote this shortly after the death of his young wife. That might explain the deep emotions embedded in this work.

This is the most touching performance of the Chaconne, I have heard - along with Segovia´s from 1934.
