Strange! Why would you want to do that to an engine? I tune diesel turbo engines for maximum power - which means *NO SMOKE*. The idea is to inject as much fuel as can fit in each cylinder and be completely used during the combustion cycle. If you get black smoke it means there is a problem as SMOKE=BROKE, but idiots confuse it with power like they do with noise. For example, a restrictive small surface area K&N filter, it makes a noise as the engine is strangled. People should LEARN first...!
@ rainbow6 a 500 hp + 7.3? You have dyno charts to back that up? So you have a fully built motor to handle that right. Because the 7.3 has such a shitty bottom end anything over 500 and you have the possibility to start throwing out rods. And for the record I had a bad idm and I was jokingly posting it up as a lope. So please explain how no air filter will cause a turbo to explode? You better go inform everyone at the track about that one.
@weekendwarriorfsw32 I think its important to diffferentiate between OBS 7.3s and the 99+ 7.3s with that statement. the OBS 7.3 motor had forged internals where as the new 7.3s have powdered metal. 500 HP for an OBS powerstroke can be done without a bottom end rebuild. It can also be done with the 2nd gen 7.3s but if it were mine i would spend the money on bottom end to back it up. It doesnt take long to find the weak links when you get into that 500 range....
And it may not blow up, as in grenade itself, but you are sucking dirt, dust, and all kinds of things through your turbo. This is what dameges the turbo wheel, and is also sucked into the motor.

@weekendwarriorfsw32 that all depends on the 7.3L. the early 7.3l powerstroke had forged rods, i believe it was in 99 that they started putting powdered rods in them, which made them shitty and weak.
@weekendwarriorfsw32 500hp for a 7.3 is easy to do and the bottom ends aren't that weak. I've helped build 7.3's and 6.0 to that. That's no problem. And Fords do have a problem with the "Dirty Turbo" syndrome, Dirt gets into the turbine housing and the wheel and ends up giving you "fludder dump" symptoms causing the turbo to die on you. Iv'e had it happen to my sisters 7.3.

Dust, dirt and anything else that could possibly get sucked in there will wreck your turbo. btw 500hp out of a 7/3 without bottom end is easy. Fuel and boost. my powerstroke has around 600. Intake, exhaust, chip, injectors, and a turbo. garette 82mm. i havnt dyno'd it but i raced my buddys cummins with 600hp and pulled on him but not by much.
