@baxtian they would usually serve their time in an Australian prison because they committed their crime there. Unless of course, your 'country of origin' (In her case, USA) already has a prisoner transfer system with Australia... but its up to the convicted, to submit that request.

I've also heard that if you DO submit a request to be transferred back home, they automatically reduce your sentence.

For that reason, the Swedish government, for instance, usually refuses transfer requests to Holland for drug convictions where the punishments are far less severe. Many do request it, however.
