Its more than the tricks, its hugely based on style as well as intensity and aggressiveness. Also, not every wave is the same, do the tricks Kelly was doing on 2-3' waves is insanely good. Just like most sports these guys are so good they make it look easy. I used to wonder the same thing until I took up surfing myself and realized it takes decades to perfect.
