  • awesome tut. much praise from a trance producer ;)

  • Check out my song I made please!! This tutorial helped me out tons and I would love if you would check out the vocals I used in my song

Thanks for your time, I'm sure you'll like it :)

    Any views/comments/support is strongly welcome

  • @SN4XOfficial I like the chopping, but your drums need a lot of work.

  • Cheers for the speedy response, works perfectly, such a silly mistake i was making. cheers pal! keep up the good work yea :)

  • Hi mate, I understand how to load everything up, get the sample in etc etc as ive used reason for a short while... BUT when i try to change the start point of the sample (say after making 8 zones) it only ever keeps the same start point, it wont change them individually? I have only ever achieved what you have in this video twice.... i dont get what the problem is??? helpppppp :(

  • @SonsAndHeirs You need to select the zones individually. Make sure you have no more than one zone selected.

  • could you do a tutorial on the of this tutorial? or do you know some1 who already did, i just cant find

  • the vibe is just right man.. you are amazing and very very well done explaining

  • Great job explaining everything.

  • that's freaking amazing

  • Guuuuuuten!

Could you simply put a few starter tutorials ? I am just now putting my Axiom 25 to good use and also have Reason, sadly I don't know how to do anything.

  • that drumstep tune and your voice both sound like camo & krooked lol

  • I'm a Pro Tools HD user, this looks startlingly simple, any idea how you would go about achieving this in Pro Tools HD without using Rewire? NN-XT looks pretty interesting, pity it isn't a plugin usable with Pro Tools HD.

  • @HammyHavoc Any sampler with adjustable zone start points should be able to do this. I never worked with Pro Tools, so I don't know, whether Pro Tools has one, but I can't see a Reason why it shouldn't.

  • @ODSTHelljumper I see what you did there...

  • that was awesome thanks, but wouldn't it be easier to put the notes from the sample into the corresponding note slots on the sampler so you know what notes you're going to get? just an idea [:

  • can this be done on reason 5?

  • @DannyOnTheWall Yes.

  • man thats deadly!1 i love it !!

  • OMFG this is soo sick can u teach me with closer details and tell me the program you used

  • @OfficialGenorated The Program is Propellerhead's Reason. I suggest you try out the demo :)

  • wtf that is sick bro teach me

  • LMFAOO ^^)

  • very cool man

  • Why does the chromatic automapping of the zones not work? I mean, it works, but it just won't play when I hit the keys. I see many people having that problem. Can anyone explain that?

  • @SiOTheCaveman I don't want to say you're dumb but your midi keyboard might be triggering the wrong range, as the zones get moved from C3 to C1.

  • @ODSTHelljumper nope thats not it, but thanks.

  • hey man this is absolutely AWESOME.... i have been trying for about two days to get it to work on Logic... cant get it to work for me... any tips or would it be easier for me to get nn xt?

  • I am excited to hear more stuff from you!

  • this vid is awesome

  • @ODSTHelljumper , what were those thor chords in the beginning?

  • YAY I knew this wouldn't be hard

  • Is the song at the end on your soundcloud yet?? :D

  • When would you upload this song? It's soo epic!!!

  • hahaha "and there you go, thats an instant 500,000 views" so true. good stuff mate

  • can you do this on windows

  • @lpdude2OO9 Yes, of course.

  • @1r0nsn1p3r work for your sound man!

  • OMG. I looked for this video for like 2 HOURS. because the song IS STUCK IN MY HEAD. omg. <3

  • Thanks a lot ODST for posting this, I always wondered how to do this... Anyway I just made a remix of Levels by Avicii using this technique if anyone wants to check it out :) Thanks!

  • Very helpful vid as always. Thanks a million and keep up the good work :)

  • Sounds nice man! =]

  • random question, do you sell batteries?

  • @1r0nsn1p3r No, sorry.

  • hey man, how would I take a file from audacity and use it in the sampler? I recorded a short sample in audacity and saved it as a WAV file but it can't get it to show up in NN-XT. Awesome video, by the wy.

  • @AbsoluteZeroDubstep There are two folder icons on the NN-XT. One opens the patch browser, one opens the sample browser. You need to click the one in the remote editor to use the sample browser.

  • if u notice.. when u mess around with the nnxt start of loop in nnxt it leaves a popping sound at the beginning of each midi note and u have too fuck with the attack in the amp in the nnxt wich is fuckin annoying

  • @nayaent Not to me. This is very basic. I haven't even touched on amp envelopes and sample reversion, individual pitch corrention and so fourth in this tutorial.

  • @ODSTHelljumper mate i can blatently here it even on ur video.. theres poppin at the beginnin everytime a midi note gets playd from ur chopd up vox.. can u not here dat?

  • @nayaent Yes of course I can hear that. The 'not to me' in my comment was referring to the fact that, according to you, adjusting an amp envelope was 'fucking annoying'.

  • Hey man, I notice you're running the stupidly complicated Reason. Is there any actual advantages to using this over something like Maschine or (a very expensive) something like Logic 9

  • @tomaytemptation In my opinion the question whether you feel comfortable with a piece of software is how you got into working with it in the first place. I do like Reason because I got used to the workflow and it feels natural to me. The entire "create" idea Propellerhead Software introduced with Balance actually does work.

The discussion whether a VST-capable DAW like Logic beats Reason can't be fit into a hundred YouTube comments so you'll have to decide for yourself.

  • What could you record the voice with, on a cheap price range? Lol.

  • @iVerTex100 I feel embarrassed to admit this, but this vocal was recorded with a 13 dollar Logitech USB Desktop microphone. The one that looks like a really thin banana.

  • Hmm.. nice tutorial, good job. Got here from Boyinaband:)

  • AWESOME

  • What do you use for your screen capture?

  • @tommo745 Any screen capture software will do the same thing, it doesn't really matter.

  • Is that song at the end on youtube?

  • Your freaking awesome lol

  • I just cabt stop hear the vocal chopping :)

    Its amasing

  • fuck that sounds sick

  • @danmos18 There's a ton of sample packs out there with female dance vocals. Or you could also record them yourself, like I did.

  • Thanks a million! great vid! keep it up! love everything you do!

  • Can you take out the song on Youtube??

  • Comment removed

  • sweeet :)

  • Your track at the end sounds great :)

  • you have a really basic voice, i might take your voice from this video and use it to chop up xD

  • @JordanRago :D go for it

  • Whats the effect called that starts @8:56 and really adds to the drop i know about the filter but its the ascending instrument that im asking about

  • @CagSwag I'll do a tutorial on these soon.

  • you are amazing sir!

  • Trying to wrap my head around how to do this in ableton...

  • @yourmom09 You could drop the sample into multiple slots on the impulse and adjust the start point for each one. Should do pretty much the same.

  • @ODSTHelljumper Or he could just use the sampler...

  • @NequissimusMusic Well how am I supposed to know, I never use ableton :D I got Live Lite version 7 with my Midi controller some time back and I've only been messing around with it a bit.

  • @ODSTHelljumper Wasn't intended as an offense, Dude ;) I just wanted to shout out that there is a sampler in ableton as well... hmmm... but not in live... only in the suite it's included ^^

in that case a drum-rack or an impulse would have to do the job :)

btw: Love the tutorial :) simplicity for the win :)

  • @yourmom09 theres a tutorial to do this. look up skrillex voice effect and surely enough it will be right there.

  • @yourmom09 You can do it in Ableton. Add warp markers to the vocal at the "start points" you want to use then right click (CTRL click for Mac) the clip and select "Slice to new midi track". A pop up box will then appear with 2 dropdown menus. One says "Create one slice per:" and you will select 'warp marker'. In the second dropdown menu select "Slice to single sampler". Ableton maps the chops you made with your warp markers in the same fashion as the NN-XT does here :)

  • DUDE! please show the synth you used for the intro sounds!!!

  • @jpdt007 What intro sounds?

  • @ODSTHelljumper I mean the first chords. The "mainstream" chords.

  • @jpdt007 It's just a single low passed square wave.

  • @ODSTHelljumper lol, so i use the initial patch on thor with one oscilator on square?

  • @jpdt007 More or less. Some minor adjustments.

  • Comment removed

  • @jpdt007 Dude I know! The synth is a lowpassed square, as I said!

  • daaaaaanget. :l well thanks anyway.. I'll save up forever and try to get some software :l

  • okay.. is there any way at all. that i can do this. with like. audacity. or something. because. making music is like. my passion. and. i sit on that crappy thing allday. and its hard to make anything. is there some kind of other free software i can use?

  • @6DeathPhoenix9 I'm afraid, making something like this in Audacity is close to impossible. It does not have a midi sequencer, nor any devices. All it does is play back (and edit) audio material. You definitely will need some kind of music production environment, even if that means using GarageBand.

  • gangsta but not as good as skrillex in any way

  • "im a lazy guy, and so are you guys" hahahah

  • very nice tutorial, helped me a lot. Also, I'm counting the days until "This is A Drumstep Track" is uploaded.

  • Anyone know the title or URL for the full song at 9:00

  • @alborzic Still unreleased, planning on finishing it though :)

  • very nice tut, did u chop the vocals using Recycle ? what format ?

  • @aasgp1 No need to use ReCycle. You can just drop in a wav sample.

  • Love your tutorials man. I use FL Studio but these are still helping me and giving loads of inspiration. Keep it up! :) Also looking forward to the full version of that track in the end, sounds awesome. :D

  • Is there any way to hear the full version of the song at the end?

  • @ibaneziceman2002 no. still wip.

  • great tutorial! did you know which notes you made for each vocal sample? like runit through a tuner?

also did you correct the tuning at all of the vocal samples?

  • @portumadre I knew them from a recording session when they were produced. As for pitch correction, you may want to apply some, when using them in this context.

  • 9:17

I want to hear the full song!

    Great Tutorial ;)

  • Very cool!!!

  • @PropellerheadSW You guys commented on my video, I am honored :)

  • @ODSTHelljumper I did more than that... I shared your tutorial and channel with other people in the office... then I bookmarked this tutorial to try out on my own this weekend. :)

  • Awesome video mate!

  • "Chords are D Minor, bflat Major, C Major, G Major."

The full progression seems to be:

i, VI, VII, IV(melodic minor scale), VI, VII.

  • Why can't you just run the sample through Recycle, then you can manipulate all the transients in the whole sample with Octorex or Kong?

  • @deanc2000 Because I doubt everyone watching this tutorial has access to ReCycle.

  • i came at 7:13

  • Great tutorials! Big thumps up and keep up the good work! You earned yourself a subscriber more.

  • reverb n delay make a huge difference im stoked for this tutorial!!

  • Good job man! i just jizzed my pants watching your video. Lol. Im gonna fuck with this righttttt now! ... how do i find out what key my vocal samples is :( lol allways confused !

  • @coolchild2001 You can always use a free pitch correction module, such as neptune, and run your vocals through there.

  • i feel stupid compared to you

  • This is my question:

    YOU ARE AMAZING!

  • holy shit that stuff works like a charm. amazing! but instead of reason, i use ableton, and instead of that nn-xt i do it the harder way and chop them up before i put them into impulse.

but amazing tutorial nonetheless. i never thought it would be so simple

  • @theones77

Same here. but you dont need to chop them manually, you can simply right click your sample and select '' chop to new midi event'' and your done chopping

  • nice vid, how you enter your own samples?

  • @TheDevotii After initializing the patch, open oyur NN-XT's remote editor, then click the load sample button.

  • Holy crap. Why can't I stop repeating from 8:40 onwards? Please tell me you actually release your music, it's awesome!

  • I would love it with a DEEP WOBBLE BASS

  • great tut bro!!!

  • this is just genious.

  • Awesome tutorial, but i use fl studio...

I not find the download link of nn-xt vst, i dont know if this works on fl, you can help me? Thanks.

  • @rebornmusictube nn-xt is reason exclusive. but can achieve similar results using Slicex :) or if you have reason too, then just simply rewire it into FL. but i can assure tou, slicex works great ;)

  • @rebornmusictube FL has the Slice-X, which is meant for slicing samples like this

  • @rebornmusictube NNXT is only in reason but any vst sampler with mapping and start end point stuff should work

  • @JimijaymesGuitarist The end point is not even needed ;)

  • @rebornmusictube Use Fruity slicer.

  • I rarely like or comment any tutorial I watch, but this one was so freakin' epic, learned so much and you can talk without saying ehm a thousand times. Great job mate, you deserve more credit for this!

  • Good tutorial. Keep up the good work!

  • That's a thing of beauty man, thanks for the great teaching!

  • great tutorial. where are you from?

  • @Magnifikate Germany

  • @ODSTHelljumper your english is really good

  • where do u get your acapellas???

  • @Awesomeguy11WTF Recorded them with a friend of mine.

  • Awesome, Thanks much :-)

  • for the sake of my own humanity upload that song please

  • Comment removed

  • Good stuff man super dope tech tips , keep doin what u do !!

  • Thanks dude

  • Awesome video, i was wondering if you know of any vst's/programs you can run vocals through to determine the key and what not.

  • @KyleBlairr Haha, no vsts needed, mate. All you gotta do is set up a really short loop (like an eigth bar or something) and have a part of the vocal playing. Then open up another instrument and chromatically go up the scale until you hit the key.

  • @KyleBlairr And if you have Record or soon Reason 6, you can use Neptune. Just route the sample through that and take a look at the pitch correction display.

  • @ODSTHelljumper thanks for replying. the only problem is that i use ableton. i have reason but not record.

  • @KyleBlairr Well, most autotune programs, like melodyne for example, should do the trick as well. There might even be free ones that will display pitch, I don't know. I never really had the need for one.

  • @ODSTHelljumper alright thanks!

  • You are amazing, kudos brah.

  • freaking awesome man! wanted to learn how to d this for ages! thankyou sooooooooooooooo much!

  • apple FTW!

  • also what i noticed in skrillex's songs , he also does some of the chops in reverse ahah, i was just listenin to scary monsters reversed

  • dude seriously ur genius

  • fruity slicer does this with ease

  • stop using mainstream so much... it's like you feel better than the rest

  • holy fuckkk!!

  • "I'm a lazy guy, and so are you guys", lol that made me laugh. Excellent tutorial glad I found your channel.

  • motherfuck i jizzed

  • this is amazing! thank you! i can learn soo much from youtube!

  • i really like it!!

  • very helpful

  • So, when will the final song come out?

  • i watched your tutorial like 500k times. and gave (tried to give) 3k thumbs up!!1!

    and oh yea.. I jizzed!!

  • @blabla12331 :D

  • I'm sure I could do this! great tutorial.

  • Great tutorial! What happened to final version of the song? :D

  • @stanstanner Haven't worked on it, it's still unfinished.

  • @ODSTHelljumper Ah, man. Ok. Thank you for the reply.

  • Do you rly read every single comment???

  • This video was amazing and helpful. I'm just starting to get into making my own music and this helped out a lot!!
