When I was a kindergarten kid my mother once put me to bed and started to play a cassette before she left the room. It was a fairy tale whose English name is "The Story of a Boy Who Went Forth to Learn Fear" (Märchen von einem, der auszog das Fürchten zu lernen). It was scary as hell!

Haha that’s funny to watch because my father always red from the Struwwelpeter book for bedtime and there I heard and seen the story very often. In the real story a tailor cuts of his thumbs. But reflecting now how brutal our old children-stories really are is quite amusing. We Germans have also much more brutal bedtime stories like “Max und Moritz” including animal abuse and burning other people houses. Haaaach childhood in Germany… xD

This book does exist. It's really disturbing. In one story some kid dies because he didn't eat his soup, a girl that plays with matches and burns to death, a rabbit that tries to kill a hunter but ends up spilling boiling coffee on his son.
