  • I think the camera was made well, it hung low so that when the lion lowers its head, the chin doesn't get in the way. It was strapped by leather belts (wrapped in duct tape), with stood beating, was never taken off, did not affect the behavior of the lion. I'd say this experiment was successful. My question is why have the ability to transmit video if they can simply retrieve the came when it was done? Couldn't it already store video info? Or is the extra weight?

  • I got a cheaper solution to this stuff... buy a GoPro HD camera, put it in a Otterbox case, and strap it to the lion with a harness

  • kenya!!!!! :D

  • kenya!!!!!!!! :D

  • SO CUTE! :3

  • It's so amazing to be able to get an intimate view of these lions lives.

  • This is so cool. How can I get a job like that?

  • Allow it, they should at least put it on it's back like the sea lion. It already has a radio collar, why not incorporate a radio collar in the camera.

  • beautiful creatures, amazing,

    subhanAllah

  • Wonderful video!!

  • I want to put a critter cam on my house cat my cat goes missing for weeks then comes home, I want to know where they go, one has been missing now for 3 weeks, and one showed up today after 2 weeks. such a mystery to me

  • I assure you, it can't possibly be the worst thing that lion has had to go through.

  • great vid

    lets chat QZ

  • i wonder if the male lions r confused if she just grew a mane

  • Bet its like 240lbs of warts and patchy eczema.

  • Calm down everybody. It obviously didn't hurt its hunting because they saw it hunting and then eating its prey. It's only done for a week, and its triggered by remote to come off. They don't need to tranq it again to get it off.

I imagine it suffers more abuse when it gets kicked in the chest by a pissed off zebra :P

  • My only beef with this idea is that the camera is so bulky. The lions gotta lug it around while hunting. But, I guess is doesn't hurt them.

  • @markus777 if you only knew how strong those things are

  • @crazyassblinddude

    no doubt

  • The cameras were not nigth vision cameras, they had lights on them that disrupted the lioness's hunt at night. Next time they should use real night vision cameras.

  • its infrared light, which the lions can see but things like zebras cant. if anything it was like giving the lions a giant flashlight only they could use.

  • It was only for a few days and at the most it gave the babies something new.

It seemed not to bother their daily lives much.

Its not like they are watching lion TV constantly they took it off.

I thought it shows how they interact with one another it can aid in helping baby orphaned lions get rehabilitated and help its human caretakers in making sure it grows up like a lion.

It has many uses the con only being she had a collier around her neck for a little big whoop it has to be done.

  • how wud u like a huge camra shooved round yuur neck!!

  • it'd be badass

  • With the all sponsor, they should have created critter cam smaller. The critter cam on the female lion looks really big.

  • 90% of that is just casing to keep it from getting torn to pieces.

  • the lion wants the radio collar so he can watch cable tv :P

  • That critter cam thing looks so awkward, big, clunky. This video reads like a poor defense for funding the project ($7k - $13k a pop?). With all the technologies we have thesedays, is this the best tool for gathering wild-life data?

    *duck*

  • It's like encased in heavy materials so it doesn't get the shit kicked out of it. What would you prefer? A sony handicam?

  • @tooltalk who the fuck do you know how "big" "awkward" and "clunky" these cameras are. have you ever fucking worn one? I didnt fucking think so, so shut your mouth

  • @TheHitchhikingHippie what the hell is your problem? LOL someone's on their period...

@tooktalk and people are more interested in entertainment than discovering the world around them nowadays. haven't you noticed the news makes headlines about celebrities and ipod advancements when they should be making headlines about the war and politics?

  • @iceshard24 lol war and politics. who the fuck cares about war and politics these days.

  • @TheHitchhikingHippie That was his point, idiot.

  • @iceshard24 : eh? how do you know what I'm interested in? I don't watch TV, nor do I enjoy watching the CNN coverage of war / political porns. No, the fact that you listen to endless thoughtless dribble, propaganda from BBC, Stewart's Dailyshow or Democracy Now, NPR, doesn't make you look any smarter.

  • @TheHitchhikingHippie : jesus, get a grip.

  • @tooltalk it may not be the best, but it's a major help

  • Do you guys really think the lions care about a radio collar and a darting? It suffers more inconvenience in an everyday hunt... maybe you should go feed it

  • poor lion! but i think it's ok to her..

  • poor lion. i think you hit him on the spine.

  • I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THOSE POOR LIONS!! How would they like to just randomly get hit with a tranquilizer dart?!! :'( And then have some annoying foreign object strapped to their neck? I would be PISSED.

  • We need to have radio collars on them. And the crittercam...which was probably a ittle inconvenient, really helped research on Lions' daily lives. Yeah, it sucks, shooting them with tranquillizers...but we have to do something to get the collars on the lions so that we can keep an eye on them.

  • Imagine the lion waking up and asking "WTF is this around my neck? I don't remember that there." Lol.

But on a more serious note; those are amazing shots of how lions live. Who can think of hurting an animal that is loved by their family that much.

  • you da one who won the spellin bee,, uhh, im the first third grader wit a felony!

  • This kind of surveillance is good for the lion species. The researchers are able to acquire information about lion life they wouldn't be able to by watching them.

  • seriously, all of you people who say take that stuff off...you try finding out more information about these animals behavior so we can save them without getting yourself killed. these camera's are nothing more than a minor bother to these lionesses. maybe you idiots should be more concerned with their shrinking habitat and them getting killed by farmers because, as the video said, they have a "taste for cattle."

  • People are upset about the critter cams? "Oh no! It looks uncomfortable!" "Oh no! The tranq-darts look sharp!"

You complacent latte-sipping dumbfucks! You insipid pussies who've never stepped foot in real outdoors without a tour guide & a camera! Why aren't you bitching about the fact those lions aren't eating well-cooked food that might have (gasp!) gerrrrms in it? Or about the fact that lions sleep outdoors...IN THE FREAKIN' RAIIIIN! Oh my! Oh no! Did I violate your urbanized virginity?

  • for all the comments that mention how 'horrible' it is to tag them. They're not the ones harming them, get it in your head.

If you really care that much, join Greenpeace. Other then that watch and LISTEN to the whole video.

  • Alien abduction for the lions.

  • They're helping to protect them you idiots.

  • I can't wait till one of those fuckers gets their hand bitten off. Take that shit off.

  • A minor week long annoyance. They need this to learn how to protect lions and their way of life, retard. It's not causing pain.

  • yea that looks really comfortable i wish those assholes had to wear them for as long as the lioness did

  • Pride of lions? Well, I guess it is nice that lions are so self-respecting.

  • Lions have names? I didn't know that. Wow, they are really intelligent.

  • the humans who do this to those poor animals should be DARTED...DRUGGED.. and GIFTED with those same camera's...NOW THAT WOULD BE ENTERTAINING !!!

  • tss

  • They aren't in pain, and they obviously don't give a shit because they still hunted and went about their daily lives. Animals need to be drugged to be radio collared to be PROTECTED, or else they'd all be poached to the end of their species or we'd never know how to protect them.

Think before you spew out garbage

  • that poor lion.

  • It reminds me of Homer's spy camera hat.. the giant one with all the whirring noises. It's not exactly discreet. :p

  • its eyes are open but its asleep....?

  • Has anyone seen the Critter cam on Nat geo Junior? It has kids voices. Like tha narrator says "Critter cam" and the kids go "HUH?!?!?!" And they always go "ohhhhhh" "ahhhh" "ahahhaha" "YEAHHH!!!"

  • I wish I had the money to build a camera like that

  • Hey Phil, the lion just snuck up behind some group of idiots. One of them is wearing a jacket just like yours...

  • Imagine being the guy who first tested tranquilizers on lions: Ok Freddy, stick this needle into the lion. If it mauls you to death and eats you it didn't work. If it mauls you to death and then falls asleep it did.

  • theres also a problem with tiger population, and their my favorites!

  • This seems to be too much. Humans already annoy them enough. Just doing it one time maybe. But with this success they will do it over and over. Just improve their environment and get the hell out of the way. Thousands of dollars in equipment could be used to create a better habitat. Sometimes I feel the scientists are being selfish and want to fulfill their aspirations more than do the right thing.

  • When the Dark Rainbow kills the beloved of one of the Champions of the Rainbow of Light, she turns against both gods of Ponyland for revenge. But you cannot kill a Rainbow.

  • i feel sorry for those lions with those cameras they look like they wanna commit suicide with those heavy looking cameras

  • Actually, they don't know it's there sometimes

  • The next step is to get the lion to do a vlog.

  • so cool...

  • Its cool because they chose to study the lioness, it would be a bore if they put the cam on a male lion, cz all it does is eat, sleep and jerk off

  • I wish i had a lion as a pet :(

  • lol me too and a tiger!

  • their expensive to feed.

  • what seems kinda painful is that they like gotta shoot the lionets or girl lions to like make her stop :P.i hope theres a safer way

  • I dunno I could easily live in a world that didn't have animals that could attack and kill humans and not miss them one bit.

  • I could easily live in a world that wasn't filled with selfish human killers who see themselves as the only ones worthy of life on earth.

  • moronic poser hippy.

  • layla is ng's bitch. yo lions... layla's wearin a wire.

  • See that guy draw his gun at 2:23..lions never sleep..ha ha. Good thing all went well. I am going to put a critter cam on my cat right now....

  • Niceeee. It was freaky watching it run at night lol.

  • POV lion sextape ftw

  • Would love to see one of those NG guys get eaten on the crittercam.

Aliens would probably do the same thing to us.

  • LOL. maybe they are and we just don't know about it?! ;)

  • the critter cam reminds me of the traps in SAW III

  • AWESOME

  • huoh your the 10th... ^^

  • Neat stuff! Anyway to view the videos in "high quality"? Great work

  • Magnificent video. *****

  • awesome
