I must have watched this film a hundred times on Betamax video ( yes Betamax ) when it was released many many many years ago. One of the all time horrors.
I have to admit that I like Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead equally. I know alot of people say Dawn is the best....but Day also has a special atmosphere to it. I love both soundtracks...and I recently bought both on vinyl FACTORY SEALED!!!!!
I cant wait to play them. But first I need to save up for a hi fi system worthy of their greatness!
Great sountrack, all the music for Dawn of the Dead was done by the Awesome director Dario Argento and his band The Goblins.I have two versions were the music is different, but its all done by these guys...:D
my favorite movie of all time. nothing beats this one, have never rooted for the characters in a zombie film as much as I have in this one. in my opinion, the perfect zombie movie.
Do you know what the music is called that is played when Peter turns the TV back on after Fran turns it off? It's also played in a Commodore 64 game called Jet Set Willy 2. I've looked everywhere and am at a total loss.
@mikelad777 Sorry, I'm wrong about Misery, that was Moonlight Sonata DOH!
In Dawn of the Dead (Director's Cut, which is 2 hours+ long) it's heard faintly when Peter, Steven, and Fran are sitting in the lounge, and Fran turns the TV off in anger at Steven, prompting him to stubbornly switch it off. A classical piece.
The first zombie movie to fully express the collapse of human civilization and its consequences on normal people as they become the last remnants of the human species.
this is the PROPER soundtrack for Dawn of The Dead. Ive still got the original banned vhs with this soundtrack all the way through! Much better than the dvd reissues
I know some people may call this score cheesy and out of date, but to me it totally suits the atmosphere of the movie. Also, Italian horror soundtracks kick ass!
This is the real Dawn of the dead, Zombi! I'm italian and i think this is the best soundtrack! I've seen the original version and it's not the same thing...ITALIANS DO IT BETTER, gli italiani lo fanno meglio, and it's not referred only about sex ahahahahah
I was 9 when i watched it, and i saw it after I saw the remake. The remake didn't really scare me. This movie made it so that i couldn't have a good night sleep for 2 years! Now i love this movie, seen it over 50 times, have the ultimate edition and can remember every line.
@jne4870 Funny you say the Younger Crowd, I see myself as one of the younger crowd. And oh i have watched this version first and found it better as the remake. So it's actually most of the younger crowd. Not everyone.
@dropkickM Of course there are some kids like you who still have some balls, but I think what he meant was that there are a lot of kids who just watch 2000's horror movies and think they are "hardcore horror fans".
@TerminatorJesse Haha, so true. When i watch a horror movie , i just don't look at the year it's brought out. Just yesterday , i've watched suspiria by dario argento. I absolutely loved it ! Just the atmosphere of the older movies, doesnt come close to the atmosphere in the 21st century movies. Really amazing .
@dropkickM I agree, to me the best part of the older horror movies is that you know that all the special and gore effects are "real" and not some computer made shit. Big thumbs up from me.
@TerminatorJesse Yeah, the kind who like "Saw" and all that crap. There have been a lot of great horror movies in the '00's though, like "The Orphan", "House Of The Devil", & "28 Days/Weeks Later".
Someone in here said they prefered the score from Romero. Eg: The tracks by Goblin that he chose for the film over Dario as opposed to Zombi. Both ftw
@sandrodream1 : George Romeros original soundtrack is my personal favourite/Fits the film 99% perfect for me. Own at least 5 dvd versions of this! From The DvD Boxset (because features comments from Romero's & Savini) to one that was free with a sunday newspaper. Betamax & VHS versions FTW
Romero at his best. Everything since this has been rubbish. And don't get me started on the remake which was an afront to all things zombieish! This and Zombie Flesh Eaters are the best zombie movies ever made.
i would like to see a continuation of francine and peters story, like where did they land, what about the baby, did they die ( probably), how did they die etc.
Fucking love this movie. It's epic. Great story, great characters, great acting, and great soundtrack. The remake was ok but doesn't come close to this one. Dawn of the Dead is THE zombie movie. Thumbs up if u agree.
@SnakeEater871 I agree but there were some parts that were a bit weird some of which I know is because of the lack of financing they had if I remember a majority of the zombies were played by random staff members but what I meant by weird was like the random guy that when running from a zombie does he try and make a dash for the door? no no way the best thing to do is ..check your blood pressure on the machine lol love that part because the guy decides to do that instead of escaping
This is my favorite track from the soundtrack, the driving bass-line the creepy synth playing really makes it.The bells. Im gonna play this if a nuclear bomb is heading my way.Sit back light a joint and wait.
I know that the word 'epic' is overused these days (as in "this milkshake is EPIC", or "This studded bracelet that I bought from Hot Topic is EPIC!"), but when I say it, I hope that you all understand when I proclaim this film as a definite zombie epic. This film illustrated the zombie apocalypse in an honest, practical (and low-budget- but that's not the fuckin' point) light, and deserves more exposure, despite the 'low-budget' trappings. Will ya listen to this music, anyway? The atmosphere!
"Blow Puerto Ricans and nigger`s asses off! Blow their asses off, blow off!" Shit, Woolit was really mad! How the heck they allowed such gunshot crazy to be in this operation?!
@Gridseeker Just looked him up on w w w . i m b d . c o m he was in a Tom Cruise movie called all the right moves (Played the town bully, what a surprise) but it's gets weirder he's been nominated and won a daytime emmy for directing the american soap opera All My Children(?)

If wikipedia is correct, it must be in the following order: dawn, twilight (or gloaming), sunrise, morning, noon, afternoon, evening, sunset, twilight, dusk, night and finally midnight of the dead (dead of the dead xD). But hey is George Romero I can disagree the man!
@RareMusik upcoming movie : the dinner-time of the dead ; the lunar eclipse of the dead ; the sunny weather of the dead. Then last chapter : The Dead of the Dead.

I think the best thing that Argento contributed to this film was the soundtrack but the Italian version of Dawn of the Dead was not even close to as decent as the US cut...
The soundtrack is actually way overused and a lot of the tracks didn't really fit the situation in the Italian version... Plus the humor that is found in the US cut was almost completely edited out by Argento...
I saw both the Italian version and the American version multiple times and I have exactly the opposite idea. The American soundtrack is really terrible, flat and totally out of context while Goblin's version is adding a lot to an already excellent movie. And it's bloody frightening... but that's just my point of view... maybe because i literally grew up with this movie (and Goblin). :-)
@clukazz Haha ya I can't argue with you on the growing up with the movie note... I wasn't even close to around when this film was released or when Goblin was a prominent film score group, but I can say that I watched my first Romero film when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I've been hooked on them since... I will say that both the US and Italian version are completely spectactular, I just thought the soundtrack was a tad overused in the Italian version... But it was a lot creepier yes :)
Music compliments the rising feeling of dread in the film perfectly... Great score throughout the film.

I love listning sounds of Argento's. But I love US or Romero's.

Still, one of the best songs for a zombie movie. The slow plodding bass is perfect
