I think Atheists shouldn't judge God based on the religion of Christians. Religions are cults that make God seem like an imaginary friend. Understanding God is very difficult for someone who is proof based.
There are a lot of secret religiously motivated projects that are more advanced than mainstream science that leave absolutely no "proof" of it going on. Being proof based is like taking a step back towards understanding anything important.
