In those days there was controversy about playing black qbs. Warren Moon settled a lot of questions, but it was a sensitive subject in the south. Bryant may have thought the reporter was trying to broach that topic and maybe that was why he was short with her.
BTW...I used to work for the University of Alabama and met Walter Lewis. He's a good guy.
