Derren uses "stooges" and "plants" as much as any other "magician"/"Illusionist", his best trick is somehow making the viewing public to completely accept his claim that he never uses them. I've never met anyone who thinks he does, that's amazing!
As Penn+Teller once said when Magicians say they were trying to pschologically influence your decision its bullshit. Its nearly always a force or they have a way of knowing your choice after you've made it. In this instance its quite clear its the latter. Its still a good trick though.
He uses, psychology and subliminal messages and he knows magic and divertion techniques and he knows body language. Maybe if some people studied like he has they would have better jobs and more money. No stooges hes studied this for years and years.
If I was asked to fill in a form, before I entered the theater,to see Darren Brown,I would be very suspicious, and either refuse,or put in the wrong info, the show that I am referring to,is the one that a blindfolded Darren Brown, passes out on stage,or pretends to,he then still blindfolded points to various members of the audience, yes he might have a mike in his ear,but that would mean, the feeder would have to know the seating.and persons info.
@digitalwarfares First of all I never said earpiece, it is a tiny speaker hidden in his ear the point is so you don't see it, and second of all I am not confusing anything, that is the episode that I was talking about, and what I said was that he is using the same methods.
@donnycross If you read my first comment I do say that they feed him the information about the people who are in the audience, it does not matter where they are sat or who they are because they have info on all of them.
@quagmiredude408 OK if I was going to a theater show,of Darren, and was asked to fill in a questioner before I entered the theater,I would be very suspicious, and I am surprised that it has not been mentioned on You Tube.It would also take massive organisation each seat would have to be reconised,in a packed theatre,in seconds, not possible.
@donnycross They don't need to do anything with the seats they know where people are sat, and I said form not questioner, they have additional information for some people which they get by other methods, they have people for that.
Only thing i noticed was why are there 2 lines already on the guessing side of the board when he first brings it out? They had no use at all as he removed them as soon as Bill put his 4 colours in. Also, the first peg on both lines was orange and yellow. Both similar colours and Bill put yellow as his first peg.
In his tricks involving the audience in a theater whilst blindfolded,he points to a part of the audience,a person who he cannot see, although it would not matter if he could see them,he then tells them things about themselves, star sign, place of birth, first name, description of pet, ect. So unless he is using doubles,(people known to him) and if he was, would this not get out,so how is he doing it,based on the fact that there is no such thing as magic, only magic tricks.
It's all psychology. Read the books, it's no hush-hush, secret service, "kill all witnesses", kinda secret. If you read Derren Brown's autobiography, then follow the reading list provided (not necessarily the ones advised there, but books of the genres suggested), then you will know the secrets behind the "magic" (I don't read them myself, but my brother does. And it pisses me off.)
I dont believe in Magic, and I understand that they are all tricks, some I have sust,BUT,how does Darren Brown,do the theater tricks, when blindfolded on stage, can pick out people from a packed audience, and reveal their star sign, occupation, ect???????
@donnycross its all through the way he perceieves people and predicts how they react, and makes assumptions on things they do... its very high level phsychology with some luck thrown in :P
@donnycross People fill out forms before the show and Derren has a speaker in his ear which tells him about those people, this is actually covered in one of his shows.
@quagmiredude408 ,well ok,but he is blindfolded, and picks people from anywhere in the theater, stalls or boxes, plus nobody has posted on here, that they fill forms in, and if I went I would ask why the forms?
I can guarantee you Derren and his team do not employ cheap tricks to swindle information out of people before doing a live event. He does not wear earpieces, so I don't know where you're getting your information from.
Furthermore, you're confusing Derren with the episode he did about Peter Popoff and the fake 'Faith Healers' episode which were reading off information on cards that were written before entering the Church.
@alexUKguy91 o TRUST ME boy I know for a fact , infact I can't go into it but i'll give you my word on this derren brown.. when I see his name.. i think theirs 7,000,000,000 billion and only 1 can do this.. begs me to say the word : BULLSHIT, I'm not saying you're dumb but I think if I was to phrase you somewhere it wouldn't be with the stupid people category, it would only make them look more stupid then they actually are, so I'll just skip this and ..
@donnycross Derren plays mind games. Everything he does is planned down to the finest detail. He has an incredible ability to read people, so when he chooses sum1 from the audience, he picks the person he feels he's most able to read, hence why he sometimes sends people back to their seat. When it's a theater gig, which it almost always is, he leaves hints around and outside the theater which people pick up on on their way in. The man is a genius, but not in the way most people think
@RickAstleyZ thats what brown does, tricks. he never claims to be magic, he is however a mastermind. watch his multiple chess games with world champions at once, most of his stuff is memory based, hes far more talented than other tv magicians illusoinists etc.
@jim191185 I've been to one Derren's shows and I'm 95% sure that one of the tricks he did involved using a stooge. Its the one where an audience member is asked to draw blind folded and then another member of the audience is asked what 2 numbers they're thinking of. What gave it away was the fact they didn't seem with it and didn't react at all with the audience's amazement at their seemingly lucky prediction.
@Mitjitsu if he used stooges at all i think his carrer wouldnt have took off like it did. he just knows how people will react, be it the use of certain words or even subliminal messaging. my cousin met him in new york once, he payed for his and his fiancees dinner. top bloke.
@donnycross If Derren is picking starsigns and what not while blindfolded it sounds very much like he is using audience data cards and/or radio communications from his crew. Much like Peter Popoff, the psychic healer who was exposed as a fraud by James Randy on national television.
You guys trust a TV performer way too much. Fair credit to Derren, he does say that his show is a combination of "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship". But how do you even know how much he uses of each? In reality 80% of his old shows (i.e. ones with many acts/tricks) were "magic" (I'm talking about his stage shows too). Just think how many of his "tricks" that he reveals are actually psychology (you'll find most of them are). He almost never reveals any other tricks.
hahaha, Derren is so funny...but this is magic, nothing to do with psychology; thats the great trick - of paul daniels did this people wouldn't be half as impressed
@TheRealMoosecake If you say so; I was thinking the same about you if you think its psychology...you can easily findother magicians on youtube that perform this trick; but Derren fools people like you into thinking its extra special by presenting it as psychology. Smart.
@theMAXILOPEZpsycho Never said it was extra special, infact it's quite basic in nature - if anything you made it out to be 'extra special' by referring to it as magic and comparing this act to other magicians tricks. Whether you dig 'magic' or not, hopefully even you should find it within your capicity to agree that these results can be achieved through simple suggestion, and infact most of Derren's tricks use basic but trained hypnotism on suggestable people. Smart.
@TheRealMoosecake "...and infact MOST of Derren's tricks use basic but trained hypnotism on suggestable people. Smart." No, in fact you are wrong. Almost all of the "tricks" that he REVEALS are ones based on suggestion (I would argue hypnotism isn't really what it's cracked up to be too- watch Penn and Teller Bullshit). Thus he fools the general population into thinking that he rarely uses typical magic tricks, when in fact it's the opposite (though fair to him at least he is "honest" about it).
@TheRealMoosecake Also I'm sorry but misdirection/suggestion are a part of "magic", and is used by almost all magicians. He uses many other familiar sleight of hand techniques too. I hope at least you are not one of those people who believed Derren actually predicted the lottery using mind powers (or wisdom of the crowds or w/e).
*ahem* reflective glasses on the tables.
