She doesn't speak Spanish because she probably comes from one of those under-educated US-Latin families that don't teach their kids Spanish because they want them to be "American", while all the educated Latin families in the US have their kids learn not only how to speak Spanish but to read it and write it as well.

My brown sister, a Fortune 500 HR director, was in a Kansas City supermarket with my niece, speaking Spanish, and when my sis reached the fat white-trash cashier and spoke English, the woman said ironically "Oh, you know English? Then why are you speaking Spanish? This is America". My sis replied "I'm a top executive thanks to my language skills and I want my daughter to have them so she won't end up being some supermarket cashier"

@lovesababe "white-americans" have a problem with Hispanics because they can't classify and segregate them now like they did your grandma. Many Hispanics that have been buying up real-estate in the US lately are mostly the rich, white, educated elites of Latin-America. Just in Miami there are 100,000+ Venezuelans (left cuz of Chavez), mostly white and rich. These teach their kids proper Spanish and send them to UM, UF, BU, NYU, etc. Many are Latin Jews who also speak Hebrew. Times have changed.
