@letmepointout he didnt....im assuming that isnt something that the replay crew would miss when someone like me or u could notice it on youtube....it just looked like it cuz franzen moved his stick
@dandandamattressman I don't know, I think the puck changes direction at the blue line where Franzen tips it. When you consider how well Ellis was playing up until that point, a deflection makes sense. I would like to see more angles. BTW, they miss a lot of things in the replays.
@letmepointout nooope ellis missed it cuz it took a crazy fluke bounce about five feet in front of him.....in fact if u really follow the puck in this vid u can see it doesnt actually touch his stick....even with the shitty resolution.
Redwings are the greatest team not only in hockey but all of sports. no one plays with that much class and love of their sport and team. please hate them if you want to were used to it, but know your 100% wrong if you say they're a bad team
Lol @ all the haters. You mad us Wings fans have countless future Hall of Fame players? You mad we had Stevie Y, greatest sports captain of all time? You mad we have Nicklas Lidstrom, one of the best defenders of all time? Or you mad we have the third most Stanley Cups (11) in NHL history? Haters gonna hate.
i'd rather mute the tv then listen to the preds announcers. they're the most biased in the entire league and it's pitiful to listen to them. they don't even announce for a good team but talk them up like they're the fucking wings.
anyone seem to notice that anytime detroit managed to score a long-range goal in the first-round of the playoffs, they went on to win the stanley cup? yzerman scored one from just inside the center red line against Fuhr of St. louis in game 5 of the 97 playoffs. Lidstrom scored one vs cloutier in game 3 vs vancouver in '02 and then lidstrom scored this on ellis of nashville in game 6. idk if there was one in 98.
Biased as hell announcers. How many times do you think they could have said "fluke"? They mentioned it a lot. It wasn't a fluke, he did that on purpose.
@bishoppx "Fluke" means it was a lucky goal and he couldnt do it again. I mean he could do it again, but he could try 100 more times and not do it. That was a god awful bounce.
@xice7x Lol, this goal was on purpose. He practices these shots, he knows what he's doing. Yes, it was part luck. But he knows how to get those bounces.
you, my friend, are an idiot. No1 practices bouncing puck goals. Clearly, you've never played one game of hockey or you would know that. It was a poor shot that turned into a fluke goal, just as the announcer says, you schmuck.
They've shown videos of him trying these shots during practice on FSN Detroit. And the announcers have talked about it a few times. He knows what he's doing. Stop being so damn arrogant, you schmuck.

Great goal for Lidstrom, one of the greatest ever!
But one thing I wonder, is if Detroit have changed their jerseys a single time? They look the same season in and season out... It's just so boring. Can't they change their logo or something. I like Capitals logo, maybe something in that direction?
red wings are a team of the original six...it would be just pathetic and foolish to change their logo or jersey now after almost 80 years with the Red Wings name.
Sorry no, they've got the best looking jersey in sports.
More modern jersey's are no comparison. Some of the jersey's are better than they used to be, but it still feels like they're representing a saturday morning cartoon (coyotes, predators, panthers, penguins and quite literally the ducks).
There are other good looking sweaters, however, like the Devils, Flyers, Rangers, Canadiens, but the Winged Wheel is king, so is the simplistic color scheme.
the way i think about it is if you are going tp be hitting the puck into their end you may as well aim it at goal in hope that it goes in, if it doesnt you dont loose anything but occasionaly this will happen
no not always true because if that were say marty turco or martin brodeur in net he wouldnt have done it, you dont want to just give the puck to a puck moving goalie in front of the net
So Lidstrom regularly practices shooting pucks from the red line and they go in quite often right? If you watch a slow mo replay of 90% of these long goals, the puck is bouncing all over the ice and changing directions etc. The other 10% is just the goalie not paying enough attention.
Any player who puts pucks on net from half ice will have them go in every once in a while, it has nothing to do with Lidstrom being "just that good"
He's the second best defender in hockey history. He's not some fucking random defender. If it were a one time thing then I'd say it might be a fluke, but the guy has done it MORE than once, and it was a picture perfect shot.
Also? Where do you see it bouncing everywhere? I see it shot, dropping right in front of the goalie, and bouncing in.
If you have ever played hockey it wouldnt be so hard for you to understand. When a puck bounces, even if it only bounces once, it changes direction and angle.
If you watch Ellis, he moves to the right because that is where the shot is going, then it bounces and goes left at the last second.
Yes, Lidstrom is one of the best defensemen ever but that does not mean he can score at will from the redline, no matter how much you want to believe it. Unless he has memorized every single rut and chip in the ice surface he can only shoot and hope for the best.
If he shoots that 100 times it might go in once or twice. if it doesnt bounce at all it is no problem even for a minor league goalie.
If it was down to just pure skill, he would do it much more often
@ROCKETS2965 You're 100% bang on about Lidstrom. But you're fucking blind if you can't see that Franzen tipped that shot. The puck clearly bounced down and up again before landing right before Ellis.
@TheHockeyCentral if you look closer you can see that ffranzen just missed it bro.. so your fucking blind. lol you would see the change in direction instantly after franzen tipped it. but the puck just kept flying so it wasnt tipped.. if you watch from 1:05-end more closely. you can clearly see. it was not tipped!
@letmepointout no he didn't. the last replay at the end of this video is the best view. if franzen tipped it, the puck would of changed direction instantly.
@ROCKETS2965 absolutely right. he said in an interview after this game that he tries to bounce it right in front of the goalie. this is NOT a fluke by any means.
uh, hockey night in Canada is local for me dipshit.
I expect more from redwings fans, RedWings1835. In all seriousness, I totally missed the CBC logo at the begining. The Nashville announcers are homers, the third and fourth stringers on CBC don't understand anything other than the east and western Canadian teams.
I watched that on TV, Detroit scored shorthanded. Before that, I remember Nashville pushing hard, because if they lost, they were out. That goal changed the game tide.
Lidstrom does that in practice a lot, too. He either knows how to give it a good bounce, or he just gets lucky. He did this another time in the season, too.

@expertpensfan58 A BIG LOSS IS NOT A 1 GOAL LOSS IN A GAME 7 DUMBASS. WE OUTSCORED YOU 12-9 IN THE SERIES OVERALL AND HAD A SHUTOUT. WE HAVE 11 CUPS, 4 IN A DECADE STFU AND GET USED TO BEING SWEPT BY LAST SEED TEAMS IN THE PLAYOFFS CUNT.
@expertpensfan58 your not making yourself seem so "expert" on your knowledge of hockey. your proving every point every1 has about pens fans. your all bandwagoners.
Sad, although I'm a Wings fan, Ellis played an outstanding round, he just got caught off guard by a weird shot. And to anyone who says Lidstrom got lucky... you're trying to say that one of the best defensemen ever got lucky.
Kinda sucks when you think about it, because this goal on Ellis and the Cup Winning Goal of Fleury were both bad moments for goaltenders who played amazing.
Yeah that's actually true. I saw the post game interview on the local news station and they asked him about it and he said that making it bounce was something that he had worked on in practice and he actually intentionally shot it that way.
You gotta feel bad for Ellis after watching this. Such great young talent and he has to deal with a terrible bounce like that. Ellis will be a great goaltender some day.
Just remember......6 Years ago, first round, Wings/Canucks....Sir Nicklas Lidstrom put one like that past Canucks goalie Dan Cloutier. Went on to win the cup.
Lidstrom thru Ellis as seen here-Wings win the cup.
Silly canadien announcers! They call it a fluke goal, but the puck did exactly what Lidstrom intended it to do. Not only can you tell just from carefully watching a replay of his follow-through, but also Mickey Redmond pressed him about it after the game and Lidstrom admitted it was a planned bounce.
So your argument is based on your supposed knowledge of the extent of Lidstrom's skill. Ok, that's fine, as long as you eventually realize that your head is up your ass. Mickey Redmond interviewed Nick Lidstrom after that game and asked him if he intended to bounce the puck right in front of the goalie. Lidstrom admitted that this was true, after initially playing it off as a lucky bounce. Don't reply; I won't read it.
Love the people who can throw out the insults but don't have the proof to back it up. Get over the fact that he's one of the best defensemen of all time.
I think the fluke comment was more saying that Ellis would normally stop that kind of shot. Yea, the puck did what Lidstrom was trying to do but I'm sure even he didn't actually expect it to go in.
So you're saying that quite possibly the best defensemen the world has ever seen couldn't do something like that? Yeah, he just shot it at the net for the hell of it.
Haha, I thought I was the only one who noticed. I was telling myself "jeez, seems like the only way we can win a cup nowadays is if Lidstrom scores from center ice."
I can't stand that they attribute that to fluke... Or anyone... It's a skill-shot entirely. He'll never admit to it, but Lidstrom probably planned that out at least to the putting it on net... Think back to oh, the last time the Wings won Stanley.
Lidstrom did try to do that. I know its impossible to control HOW it bounces but he did try to make it bounce so its not a fluke. It would be a fluke if he just tried to dump it.
Am I the only one who watched the interview with Lidstrom? Because he clearly states that he was trying to get the puck to drop before it reached the net. He obviously has practiced that shot since he said that he was trying to get the puck to bounce in front of the goalie. I know the ice conditions sucked in NSH, but he had the intention of shooting the puck on net, therefore, it's not a FLUKE goal. I've played hockey for a long time & I can get the puck to bounce like that. It can be done.
Honestly, those shots are much harder to stop than they look. I have played hockey my whole life, 15 seasons, I am not 18 years old. I have been a goalie for 10 years. Pucks that bounce are just as difficult to stop as shots that are deflected.
I love how these CBC assholes are so biased on the calls when it comes to the Red wings. A "fluke goal" scored by Lidstrom. It's interesting because I watched this same game on NBC & they never called it a "fluke goal." The NBC commentators suck but the CBC ones are WAY worse. It would be nice if the regular FSN-D commentators were calling the game. Mickey Redman & other guy. Not the NSH guys, they are the worst. But about the goal, HA HA. Red wings win!!
How the hell is that NOT a fluke goal? NHL goaltenders are expected to stop nearly every shot they can see, and 100% of shots from outside the near blueline.
NBC commentators are horrendous. The CBC guys doing this game were the worst the CBC has, and would be the best ones on NBC. At least they don't use phrases like "BIRON PUNCHES IT AWAY" when he pokes at it with his stick.
k,,, lidstrom cannot control how it bounces.... it was a fluke bounce... but obviously lidstrom had the intention of scoring on a bounce,,, but he couldnt make it bounce like that if he tried again
That goal was sweet, there was nothing Ellis could do about that, Wings were due for a lucky one anyway, cuz Ellis was unbeatable. Ellis kept Nashville in the series.
Lidstrom makes it look easy to score from centre ice :P

1) Its Lidstrom you can't really expect to save everything from an amazing player like him. (coming from a goalie and a Ducks fan)
2) I see a good shot that Ellis did not save, only thing i can think of that would've saved it would be come out of the crease more
3)A long shot like this that goes in happens to every goalie at some point

@expertpensfan58 A BIG LOSS IS NOT A 1 GOAL LOSS IN A GAME 7 DUMBASS. WE OUTSCORED YOU 12-9 IN THE SERIES OVERALL AND HAD A SHUTOUT. WE HAVE 11 CUPS, 4 IN A DECADE STFU AND GET USED TO BEING SWEPT BY LAST SEED TEAMS IN THE PLAYOFFS CUNT.

Lidstrom owns.
DarkKitten878 3 years ago
Sad, although I'm a Wings fan, Ellis played an outstanding round, he just got caught off guard by a weird shot. And to anyone who says Lidstrom got lucky... you're trying to say that one of the best defensemen ever got lucky.
Kinda sucks when you think about it, because this goal on Ellis and the Cup Winning Goal of Fleury were both bad moments for goaltenders who played amazing.
ROCKETS2965 3 years ago
what a pattern every year fuck
lidstromsbiggestfan 3 years ago
everytime lidstrom scores from center ice he wins the cup, he should start shooting from center ice every year
julianh14 3 years ago
a lot of people dont like the idea of Lidstrom planning this goal apparently.
In my opinion, the actual BOUNCE was lucky, but Lidstrom planned on shooting it so that it would bounce.
9 times out of 10, that would have been a save or would have bounced wide or above the net.
Theres no doubt in my mind that Lidstrom was TRYING to do that though.
d0zer24 3 years ago 2
Yeah that's actually true. I saw the post game interview on the local news station and they asked him about it and he said that making it bounce was something that he had worked on in practice and he actually intentionally shot it that way.
Rubba0Band0Man 3 years ago
You gotta feel bad for Ellis after watching this. Such great young talent and he has to deal with a terrible bounce like that. Ellis will be a great goaltender some day.
thegarbinator 3 years ago
that was a good goal and any1 that is sayin that listroms goal is fluke than howcome lidstrom is the only one that can do that "ITS ALL ABOUT SKILL"
68jagrbiggestfan 3 years ago
Just remember......6 Years ago, first round, Wings/Canucks....Sir Nicklas Lidstrom put one like that past Canucks goalie Dan Cloutier. Went on to win the cup.
Lidstrom thru Ellis as seen here-Wings win the cup.
Hiei2k7 3 years ago
And both goaltenders were named Dan. LOL.
Canuck204 3 years ago
Silly canadien announcers! They call it a fluke goal, but the puck did exactly what Lidstrom intended it to do. Not only can you tell just from carefully watching a replay of his follow-through, but also Mickey Redmond pressed him about it after the game and Lidstrom admitted it was a planned bounce.
GO WINGS

ha yeah right, you dont shoot like thaat intending it to do that, you think an american announcer would say he meant to do that?
youre an idiot my friend.
chris27438 3 years ago
So your argument is based on your supposed knowledge of the extent of Lidstrom's skill. Ok, that's fine, as long as you eventually realize that your head is up your ass. Mickey Redmond interviewed Nick Lidstrom after that game and asked him if he intended to bounce the puck right in front of the goalie. Lidstrom admitted that this was true, after initially playing it off as a lucky bounce. Don't reply; I won't read it.
CosaNostril 3 years ago
You're an idiot for denying that one of the best defensemen ever couldn't do something like that.

you are one dumb mother fucker

Love the people who can throw out the insults but don't have the proof to back it up. Get over the fact that he's one of the best defensemen of all time.
ROCKETS2965 3 years ago
thats exactly why you are dumb, i think everyone knows hes one of the best defensemen of all time, so shut the fuck up.
chris27438 3 years ago
So I'm dumb for saying that he's one of the best when it's true? Sounds like you're logic is dumb, get your mind out of the peewee hockey world.

once again, shut up, and quit fisting yourself

All insults... no facts. Your argument fails.
ROCKETS2965 3 years ago
there is no argument, hence i rest my case, dumbass
chris27438 3 years ago
If there was no argument then why did you start throwing out countless insults for no reason other than the fact that you want to talk shit online.
God I love E-thugs.
ROCKETS2965 3 years ago
I think the fluke comment was more saying that Ellis would normally stop that kind of shot. Yea, the puck did what Lidstrom was trying to do but I'm sure even he didn't actually expect it to go in.
Cromulus420 3 years ago
he didn't plan do do that
oilersrock10and32 3 years ago
So you're saying that quite possibly the best defensemen the world has ever seen couldn't do something like that? Yeah, he just shot it at the net for the hell of it.
ROCKETS2965 3 years ago
Nicklas Lidstrom goals from far away have resulted in 2 cups lol
Foltz22 3 years ago
Haha, I thought I was the only one who noticed. I was telling myself "jeez, seems like the only way we can win a cup nowadays is if Lidstrom scores from center ice."
mckling 3 years ago
WOW! thats like the worst bounce ive ever seen!
hockeystar090 3 years ago
poor ellis (bad bounce)
Hockeyguy519 3 years ago
I can't stand that they attribute that to fluke... Or anyone... It's a skill-shot entirely. He'll never admit to it, but Lidstrom probably planned that out at least to the putting it on net... Think back to oh, the last time the Wings won Stanley.
Razzorthedragon 3 years ago
it just sucks that hes such a good goalie and got no recognition, but when this happens its all over youtube and everything.

Ovechkinfan44 3 years ago
Craziest goal I've ever seen since the one on Toskala.
DiddyTheTruth 3 years ago
lidstrom should just keep doing that. apparently, hes shots have like bounces on the goalie
TwinsSucks2000 3 years ago
the kid below me is a fucking retard, no one was even in the zone for the puck to bounce off of.
nkral086 3 years ago
You knucklehead, Franzen is standing on the blueline, it hits his stick and the puck starts to wobble. Look again.
JFMDavisburg 3 years ago
franzen missed. thus the goal belongs to lidstrom.
gravity0010 3 years ago
You can clearly see that it hits Franzen's stick. That's why it bounced funny.
JFMDavisburg 3 years ago
no, it definitely missed completely.
LighthawkTenchi 3 years ago
It didn't only bounce, it had some real speed heading for the net...

That's why he's a 5 time norris trophy winner going for his 6th this year! He owns the center ice goal category.
miguelisms 3 years ago
any goal from center ice is fluke, no matter who shot it, but Lidstrom still deserves respect...
rolvaag0 3 years ago
ya he tried to dump it i dont think he was expecting to make it. Like the one he did against Vancouver.
WoWIsTheShit1 3 years ago
Lidstrom did try to do that. I know its impossible to control HOW it bounces but he did try to make it bounce so its not a fluke. It would be a fluke if he just tried to dump it.
hockeyfan607 3 years ago
Am I the only one who watched the interview with Lidstrom? Because he clearly states that he was trying to get the puck to drop before it reached the net. He obviously has practiced that shot since he said that he was trying to get the puck to bounce in front of the goalie. I know the ice conditions sucked in NSH, but he had the intention of shooting the puck on net, therefore, it's not a FLUKE goal. I've played hockey for a long time & I can get the puck to bounce like that. It can be done.
smelltheglove6637 3 years ago
Honestly, those shots are much harder to stop than they look. I have played hockey my whole life, 15 seasons, I am not 18 years old. I have been a goalie for 10 years. Pucks that bounce are just as difficult to stop as shots that are deflected.
moonspellfan666 3 years ago
Very true.
SlingboxFiend 3 years ago
He did this is 02 and scored and changed the series he is great GO WINGS!
Ubberpownage 3 years ago
I love how these CBC assholes are so biased on the calls when it comes to the Red wings. A "fluke goal" scored by Lidstrom. It's interesting because I watched this same game on NBC & they never called it a "fluke goal." The NBC commentators suck but the CBC ones are WAY worse. It would be nice if the regular FSN-D commentators were calling the game. Mickey Redman & other guy. Not the NSH guys, they are the worst. But about the goal, HA HA. Red wings win!!
smelltheglove6637 3 years ago
um, it was a fluke/lucky goal... strange bounce.
Unkn0wnGuy 3 years ago
It's not a fluke when he's scored from center ice before.
smelltheglove6637 3 years ago
How the hell is that NOT a fluke goal? NHL goaltenders are expected to stop nearly every shot they can see, and 100% of shots from outside the near blueline.
drfatsaq 3 years ago
NBC commentators are horrendous. The CBC guys doing this game were the worst the CBC has, and would be the best ones on NBC. At least they don't use phrases like "BIRON PUNCHES IT AWAY" when he pokes at it with his stick.
And this was nothing but a fluke goal.
inklinkinklink 3 years ago
k,,, lidstrom cannot control how it bounces.... it was a fluke bounce... but obviously lidstrom had the intention of scoring on a bounce,,, but he couldnt make it bounce like that if he tried again
baysar 3 years ago
Dan Ellis played great game, he made just couple of mistakes...
Lidstrom was just lucky..

A great goal from a veteran player.
Jwo123 3 years ago
it looks as though Holmstrom tipped it to me a puck just wont start doing flips on its own
molebiter 3 years ago
That goal was sweet, there was nothing Ellis could do about that, Wings were due for a lucky one anyway, cuz Ellis was unbeatable. Ellis kept Nashville in the series.
Go Wings
