@Mr8bitgamer No but you do need a stationary IR light source. I sell just such an item on ebay for just $8.75 if you include the shipping and handling. Search for: IR pen replacement, Wii Stationary light Whiteboard. Enjoy.
@soulviper17 Try turing your computer off and on, plugging and unplugging the dongle. Vista and Windows 7 have much better built in support for bluetooth so you might upgrade your operating system or buy a new Bluetooth dongle. There are big difference in quality and how long they stay connected. I have had good luck with an IO Gear bluetooth dongle.
@henju0416 The answer to that quesiton is too long to fit into a YouTube response. Well maybe not... The Wii remote sends a report to the PC 200 times every second. If it detects an IR dot then the possition of that IR dot will be in the report. The report can be read and acted upon by a computer program. Awesome! 164 characters left.
I use the sensor bar on the wii. Just register you wiimote on your PC THEN turn on the wii. this works for me. If this doesn't work, go on the wii into another channel like weather and register another wiimote on your wii as mote #1.
Just ask Nintendo's legal department, and they will say "yes." Because "WiiMote" is a prohibited term in their eyes. Working in the industry, I assure you it makes a lot of people's jobs harder when people call things by different terminology than they're supposed to. This leads to delays, and delays cost money. So yes, it definitely matters.
I'm sure you didn't think of it that way, but there's a reason why it bothers the people who know better. So now you know. =)
People calling it a WiiMote doesn't bother me much, but I see where you're coming from. I was one of the first people in my city to have an iPod touch, and once they became more popular, everyone started calling it an iTouch. Pissed me off....
Haha. At least you're able to be intelligent & understand my position.
Like, the people that argue "no, it's called a WiiMote" & insult other people are clearly just ignorant & refuse to accept what is correct. When they don't call it what it is, they look dumb. So if someone corrects them, they should just accept it! If they still wanna call it the incorrect term, fine, but why defend it so adamantly & say that's what it's called when it clearly isn't?!
Would the same concept fall under an Xbox 360 controller, by calling it a 360 controller just because someones lazy same for playstation 3 controller abrreviate to PS3 controller? I see your point I mean why do you need to insult someone on it lol.
So you're saying if I can't pronounce your name "ffskuntishmashu", I can just call you "kunt"? 'Cause that's the same thing if I shorten it, right?
Plain and simple, straight from Nintendo, "WiiMote" is a prohibited term. Ever see a game that used any term other than "Wii Remote"? It's a trademarked term; you cannot shorten it. Just like I can't shorten "Disneyland" to "DisLand".
The bottom line is that it can ONLY be called "Wii Remote". Ask Nintendo if you don't believe me. I'm done here.
It is not wrong to call an object by two different names, following your logic it would be wrong to call the object a "Wii Remote" because it was already coined by a separate party.
Is this different than the GlovePIE drivers that can be used to control the Wiimote?
And since you said you figured out the IR camera - it uses the IR instead of accelerometers (like GlovePIE) to track the mouse?
I was also wondering if you've tested out pointing / navigating both ways (using accelerometers and IR) and seeing which way is easier to implement... since especially you said mice tracks the changes of movements (similar to that of the accelerometer pointer) rather than a pointer
I don't know if the IR bar has to be connected for this application but when it is needed... First connect the Wiimote to the computer then power on the wii so that it will supply power to the IR bar.
use 2 candles or 2 remote controls with their buttons pressed. a wii sensor bar is not a sensor bar as the remote just detects the relative spacing of the ir leds.

Not WiiMote, Wii-mote, Nunchuck, Numchuck... get it right. WiiMote was coined by the lazy media, not Nintendo.

What does it say is included with the game Wii Play? Google an image of the packaging.
