I believe this mouse was first available in 2002. I bought one on a whim in 2003. I am still using it today, Feb 11th, 2011. I did not use a mouse pad. It's performed better than any mouse I ever used (including the $79 logitech G9X). I work at home and spend a gigantic amount of time using this mouse for work and gaming.
I am sadly finally about to replace the Microsoft Optical Blue. If only I knew how great it'd be back then, I would have bought more of them.
The blue mouse performance wise is no different than a 1.1 and WMO. The only difference is the shell and this actually has a nicer, less stiff cord. One drawback is its mouse feets, they're too damn small but of course you can just use glide tape or Teflon replacements.
I used an MS Blue for years for CS 1.6, and although it has a low maximum tracking speed (1-1.5 m/s) the 'negative acceleration' is extremely consistent, and I virtually never had any 'random error' problems like some newer mice (aiming at the sy or floor suddenly)
For a mouse that costs $19.99 the MS Blue or MS WheelMouse Optical are a great choice :)
@askdrax Yeah apparently I lot of pro league CS 1.6 players used to use this mouse and apparently a lot still do. Isn't it worse though if it has a low tracking speed?
good review i own this mouse
