I'm so glad people in this world have this kind of footage still. Id never get to see this again otherwise. Best years of my childhood were spent watching wrestling. These guys inspired me to want to workout and get in shape. I used to look up to every single one of them.
Mr. Perfect had the unique ability of making crappy in-ring wrestlers like Hogan and Warrior look great performers. He already had the ability that wrestler like Kurt Angle have today, but in the the early 90's...
it wasnt a fair fight. perfect and genius are way out matched, Mr perfect had more wrestling skill in his little finger then hogan and warrior have in their entire bodies
The Genius was the quintessential effiminate smart-alec and Perfect's theme music was so awesome that a friend of mine once had it played as he walked down the aisle for his wedding!
On local (Tampa) radio, Poffo shared the origin of the Genius gimmick. WWF was releasing him, but knew they needed heels. He kept his job by selling the idea, but they did no angle for the heel turn. To facilitate it, at a Boston house show to an indifferent crowd Poffo cut an exceptional promo/poem that disgraced Boston sports teams while refering to himself as intelllectually superior. Listless fans became livid. Hearing it may help appreciate it more, but his ensuing push speaks for itself.
Mr. Perfect was one of the best as a kid you don't realize it but if it wasn't for guys like him Rude/Dibase/Savage wrestling would of been pretty boring. I think Hogan/Flair get way too much credit for wrestlings success
Jesse The Body was such a great commentator: "The Warrior saw his opening, he saw Hogan and he LEVELED him!" LOL He was such a shit disturber and it was great!!
@ananga73 By far one of the most under-rated Wrestlers of all-time. I dont think the guy ever held the belt either. Back in the day when the belt was more sacred. Now days you give it to anybody. CM Punk, Miz...lmao!!
3:17 is why Kurt Hennig was the best (perhaps ever) at making the other guy look good. Sick athlete. Extremely entertaining and insanely underrated...
Mr Perfect was the best entertainer. Even when he was getting man handled he still went above and beyond to make it look good for the fans. You don't see Hogan or Warrior sacrifice their bodies like Perfect!
LOL, I love Perfect overselling on Hogan. But, look what he was relegated to. I count at least 3 spots where he's thrown out of the ring to buy time. There's very little technical wrestling at all, and McMahon and Ventura even go out of their way to acknowledge and "explain" it. I understand the reality of the business, that the whole "Hogan / Warrior experience" is what put people in the seats, I just think it sucks that that's the way it had to be.
@supersteelchair I thought it was funny. HBK proved to the world how much of a bitch he still is. Funny thing is many of the fans who watched don’t even think about him bouncing around as "over selling". Just looked like Hulk was kicking his ass.
Mr Perefct was like British Bulldog... superb wrestlers who deserved so much more. RIP both those guys. i loved watching them as a kid. both were my faves.
Man, I ain't seen this in TWENTY YEARS! And I still remember most of the moves in the match. Esp. where Hogan caught The Genius with his knee and followed suit seconds later with a foot to the face to Mr. Perfect in midair. That, my fellow wrestling fans, was PURE chemistry!
Wrestling today, most of it I can't EVEN fathom or identify with it! Even some of the wrestlers we grew up watching are saying the exact same thing.
I was too young to appreciate what Mr Perfect could do at the time, but reflecting twenty years later I realize just how good Kurt Henning was at selling the match.
@SamonMarquis Shocking, right? 20 years later and Perfect totally blows my mind. Check out the Saturday Night Main Event 20-Man Battle Royal he wins, every time he is on camera he shines.
Rest In Peace Mr. Perfect one of the best technical wrestlers ever. He could make anyone look good even the Ultimate Warrior who sucked ass.... I'm happy he got in the Hall of Fame...
@deluxedookie And Perfect was probably the best ever at selling too. He does like three flips every time someone hits him. It's hilarious. I love when his head's rammed into the corner, and he turns the other way and does a foward flip. That happens in every match of his I think.
Your right. Looking back when I was a kid, we all hated him. Watching this now, you are more than right. Not one of the other guy could or would put himself on the line like he did in this match!
I was in the crowd when this was taped in Chattanooga. I think the taping was on a Tuesday night if I recall correctly. Between the tv taping and "dark" matches it went past midnight. great times for a high school kid
Perfect was so good in this business that he was used for his ability to carry matches and develop other wrestliers. His incredible technical ability was thrown to the way side. Even in the end of his career, they threw him to the dogs when bringing in Lex Luger. So sad.
@Velkar182 I always loved Curt. He was superior in technical wrestling to almost everybody and he never got a title run. Unbelievable! Great entrance music, solid mike skills, and superior in-ring ability!
This match is a perfect example (no pun intended) of how to accentuate the positives and hide the weaknesses of wrestlers and still tell an effective story. Those were the days.
great times great matches great wrestlers great commentry great atmosphere championships that were respected not tossed around too any body and no body's (cena) everything was awesome hate today's wrestling

@icecreamrulz420ya well it usually works like that in any industry. You have your stepping stones, you have your people who fly up the ranks and last you have your workhorse people who is making the bugger that flying up the rank look good.
back in these days, all you needed was a great tan and a huge body to get over. guys like perfect could bump all day and never even sniff the world title.
Curtis is bumping around like a maniac in the beginning. He makes Hogan and Warrior look like the strongest men in the world. I mean he is a goddamn move-selling-mashine

I saw this match live.. it was in Chattanooga, TN. What's funny is that Hogan and Warrior made up afterwards and hugged and posed and all that.. and left as friends... But they didn't show it on TV because it went against the storyline.
I also got to see Mr. Perfect live when he returned at the Royal Rumble in 2002 in Atlanta.. a year later he was dead. He was one of the best..
I'm so glad people in this world have this kind of footage still. Id never get to see this again otherwise. Best years of my childhood were spent watching wrestling. These guys inspired me to want to workout and get in shape. I used to look up to every single one of them.

It wasn't that "perfect". It had great footage but the production seemed rushed....they could've done so much more with it.
