Your rational makes some sense, except for the fact that one of the officers was black. I sincerely doubt that this cop would do or say something negative in this case.
i agree with everything except your second to last comment. he may never have lived in "the slums" or the projects. This could have been a non-matter. I wonder how the police responded to him when they got to his door. i wonder what was said by whom and how they said it. facial expressions, snide under the breath comments... all these things play a roll and help with more accurate judgments of the situation.
