Not being rude or anything. But I have the album, and this isn't Hargalaten. If you guys listen to the Everlost, Part II video, that's Hargalaten on the album. Not sure if my albums just fuckered up or something, but yea. Idk lol
As i see it In Flames making a tribute to what once was in Sweden. This is folklore from the old days when peoples belevie was strong in christianity. The devil played violin for the young ones so they were dancing instead of going in church. They followed him up the hill of Hårga and he didn`t stopped playing until all had danced therselves to death. This melody is about 200 years old and it`s nice whoever keeps the history alive.
@MrBloomen what once was in sweden is not christian extremeists. christianity ruined scandinavian culture. how this comment has so many thumbs up is beyond me.
@zenmaster666 I´m not writing about what we believed in from the beginning in Scandinavia when we worshiped many gods, just the time when this original melody was made (aprox. 200 years ago) and at that time it was christianity. I know my history very well when i´m in fact are swedish. Fair enough? :)
I do not know, I really do not like this kind of music, and I do not think it's like anders, because since I get the song returned to any look like this
@tobiasbas Dude, seriously, thanks for the suggestion. Since I read your comment about 2 hours ago, I've been downloading Alestorm's shit. Damn, I can't believe I had never listened to these guys before. Again, thank you so much. :)

Haragalaten is a swedish folk song thats actually alot more grim than you might think. the Song is about a wandering traveler (who portrays The Devil) who roams from village to village playing this song on his violin. Which causes the women of the villages to dance themselves to death.
Not the women, the youth who does not go to church. The "saga" was made to make the young people to go to church instead of going to the dancing lodge on sundays.

this song gives me an unexplainable feeling.I feel like I'm in the lake from the albumcover and watching the world from there and all that silence shit.
@NearbyHermit i got tha too.. they put by mistake clad in shadows second and all the other songs after that messed up.. only behind space and the promo songs are right..
Nice variant on this old polska. Otherwise my quota for silly arguments seems to have been filled here. All-out aggressiveness for an 8 year old comment? And the immediate berserker response. I love youtube it makes everything in life seem much saner.
Damn near all the songs are mislabeled on the remastered editions (at least in the US). Behind Space is correct at number 1, but then Clad in Shadows is supposed to be 2, with all the other song names moving down one spot.
well, The violin in its present form emerged in early 16th-Century Northern Italy, so no its not a Norwegian instrument, but its used alot in the scandinavium. Also in the rest of the world.
I have no idea what they _claim_ it is, but the melody is absolutely Hårgalåten.
The song was around for at least a century before the album. But I guess some people are so dumb, they think "Trad." is the name of some musician who's written a LOT of songs.
@indoom666 The correct title is "Horgalåten" or "Hårgalåten" (both spellings are being used). The title comes from the Swedish village Hårga, and "låten" which means the tune or the song. So a translation would be "Tune from Hårga". It is also being sung with lyrics.
i own the lunar strain/ subterranean combo disc and on that this song is labeled hargalaten. in flames is a different song imo, but thats just what i know, maybe there was a mislabeling on one or more of the presses.
Ah yes forgot something. The song with the woman is Everlost pt II. Also parts of the 1993 promo version of the song In Flames sound a lot like this in some parts. I hope that clears up the confusion.
I own every single album (including the re-releases) and this is Hargalaten, the true hargalaten at least. The song In Flames is much more metal than this and has vocals.
umm yeah guys,I own Lunar Strain, this song is actually Called In flames, the song you are thinking of is..well sung by a girl o.o,And if you think I am lying, them click spam, but w/e go ou tand buy the REAL fuckign album
Yeah. More or less:) Many people emigrated from sweden in the 1800´s because of religious oppresion. The priests even made housecalls to make sure that you knew the teachings of Martin Luther.
The song tells the story about when the devil came to the village of Hårga and played his violin and tricked the teenagers in the village to follow him up to Hårga mountain, where he played the song until they all dropped dead. I live just outside of Hårga and I`ve been there several times and you can even see their footsteps ;)
Very similar to an American folk song, except there was no death involved. The Devil met a southern boy named Johnny, Johnny bet his soul for a fiddle of gold and challenged the Devil to see who was the better fiddler. This song was composed by the great Charles Daniels who wrote this song in the late 1900's and titled this song "Devil went down to Georgia". :D
You know, as someone with viking roots also interested in history, and who lives in the southern united states,
the story of this song as well as the explanations by people who live in sweden and norway, remind me a lot of the song, "devil went down to georgia" by charlie daniels.
Are you fucking retarded? They didn't have violins 9000 years ago. Fuck you, idiot. This song is about The Hårga tale, an old legend from my home country, Sweden. The oldest notes about this legend are only a few hundred years old.
Some facts. Hi. I come from Sweden, and have read the lyrics. They're about the devil coming to Hårga, a town, and plays a song which enchant them all, then they dance until they die. I sang this song first when i was like 9 years old :]

maybe whoever played the song first was just a really really REALLY good violin player an everyone was so enamored with his awesome playing they FORGOT to stop......nah just kiddin it was the devil
Jag drömde om denna låten och gick och nynnade på den i ca 3 år innan jag hörde den med inflames. ( I dreamed about this song, and hum it for 3 years before i heard it with inflames.) spännande med andra intryck jag fått.
Its an old saying that says that it is the Devil himselve, who wrote the song. He appeared on a dance evening and started to play and people danced until they dropped dead...
and also, the saying says the walked into the village, where other people (too old or too young to go to a dance) were still waiting, and the devil made the dancers jump off a cliff, so the people in the village probably heard it... :)
oh to any idiots who say "oh this song was mad ein the 30s" yeah no it wasn't this song is over 12000 years old and do not say it isn't because this song was made before Jesus was born
Don't listen to eirik, he can't pronounce Swedish :D horgaloten. The r should be behind your lips, not the dark English r. The o is our å, think of the o in sow or the o in Latin or German.
I hate it that for the longest time, due to the way that the track listing was on the back of the CD was that this song was called "In Flames", and the preceding acoustic/female vocal track was Hargalaten. That burns my ass...
Personally I think it's one of their best songs, except that they didn't write. Their interpretation is excellent though. In Flames should let their melodies rule, leave the heavy stuff to others (my opinion).
Hårgalåten is an old swedish folksong and it´s about the devil disguised as a fiddler. When he starts playing people can´t stop dancing. They dance until they drop dead. If you search for "Gottfrid Oskarsson - Hårgalåten" you can here the original song with text.
Im sure its Hargalaten. Most likely your player messed up all your tracks from Lunar strain

and also, the saying says the walked into the village, where other people (too old or too young to go to a dance) were still waiting, and the devil made the dancers jump off a cliff, so the people in the village probably heard it... :)

Didn't know that it was a folk song and it was about the devil. Hehe. So In Flames is disguising their fans with this song, huh ? :)
