My friends who were Devils called me in trashed talked after Zelepukin scored, and I just figured what a way to cap series like this with Double OT. Thank god for Matteau.

Before 1940 they won in 1933 when there 9 teams and then in 1928 when there were 10 teams. So you could argue that 2 of the Rangers' cups were won when there were 9-10 teams.In 1927 the WHL folded and the NHL was only left. From 27-43 the cup was won in rotation equally until toronto/montreal dominated the draft

@newjerseydev continued...during the original 6 era Montreal practiced very controversial/unfair drafting as did Toronto. Those 2 teams had a strangle hold on the best talent coming into the NHL from their respective cities. The best players came from Toronto/Montreal back then and due to the drafting being unfair those cities had 1st dibs. That's why from 44 until the 70's it was pretty much Montreal and Toronto winning all the cups with Detroit and Chicago takin only 5 between them.

I have been on a tear in the last horu watching hockey clips on YT. It is embarrassing what they have legislated. I just watched clips of 10 of the most exciting games in my memory and they are outright fucking tackling players and yanking them down to the ground ... but the game(s) was positively thrilling. Richters career was cut short because of injuries and he also played on a shitty Rangers team after the 97 season so we will never know just how good Mike Richter was. but you have to agree before the Rangers sucked big time and before his injuries Richter was a phenomenal goalie. he literally defined what is was to be an ACROBATIC goaltender. @newjerseydev continued...during the original 6 era Montreal practiced very controversial/unfair drafting as did Toronto. Those 2 teams had a strangle hold on the best talent coming into the NHL from their respective cities. The best players came from Toronto/Montreal back then and due to the drafting being unfair those cities had 1st dibs. That's why from 44 until the 70's it was pretty much Montreal and Toronto winning all the cups with Detroit and Chicago takin only 5 between them.

I just watched clips of 10 of the most exciting games in my memory and they are outright fucking tackling players and yanking them down to the ground ... but the game(s) was positively thrilling. I'm with U there on that one...the stupidity of the games governors coupled with dinosaurs like Jacques Lemaire and Gary Bettman ( who couldn't sell lemonade on a hot summer day let alone the NHL ) set the game back way too far...to see a fucking cry-baby like Cindy Crosby hoist Lord Stanley is pathetic...I didn't mind the style of play in the Olympic years since 98 nor the high quality of play in the World Cups but the crap that is happening now sucks...it sucks...but as a loyal fan, it's great

I remember watching Bobby Orr score the famous OT goal vs. St Louis...I was at a confirmation party for a friend of my folks and was the only person watching the TV instead of watching the cake get cut...and I have never regretted a minute of it! That was in 1970..( I am the 10 year older brother of Ekim but just too damn lazy to start my own profile again ). There will never be a better, more hard hitting emotional series than that one for a long time. Was anyone excited about Anaheim? NO!!!

actually the Devils franchice has been around since 1974, they were the Kansas City Scouts, then the Colorado Rockies in 76 and then the Devils in 82. the Rangers have been around for 82 years, not 100.

Richters career was cut short because of injuries and he also played on a shitty Rangers team after the 97 season so we will never know just how good Mike Richter was. but you have to agree before the Rangers sucked big time and before his injuries Richter was a phenomenal goalie. he literally defined what is was to be an ACROBATIC goaltender. Man if the Rangers could have been at least average in late 90's we would have seen some great game between Brodeur and Richter.

Hey guy, the Rangers just got eliminated, how about you deal with that. The Devils have young defensemen that were good last year and will only get better. They do need more scoring and hopefully that will be addressed this offseason, the Rangers just need a new team. Besides Gomez (an ex-Devil) and Dubinsky the rest of the team is questionable. And yea I'll give Lundquist some respect, so please respect Brodeur, the future Hall of Famer!

The Devils had a 2-0 lead before Messier fed Kovalev the puck that cut the lead 2-1. And then he scored the hat trick afterwards.
ONCE AGAIN, no Messier and it's still 1940. Richter put the Rangers in that 2-0 hole, so Messier bailed out his stupid ass.
