I remember MTV2 used to show a 9-minute version of this video, back in the long ago days when they actually showed music videos on there. The longer version doesn't look as mish-mashed as this version.
Is it just me or was electronica in the 90's sounding so much more advance than today? It's like we've forgotten everything about how to make good music that we learned over the past 50 years. Really makes me sad.
@soundseeker63 its sad and you know whos a good example who poorly uses sound synths and music these days look at bashees Justin Bieber and the rest as well as LMFAO
The sample from Opus III (Kirsty Hawkshaw) "It's a fine day" reversed perhaps reverses the meaning of the song it comes from....
On their album that came out the year after the single (1993) they did another version "Halcyon and on and on" where they brought Opus III vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw onboard to record more vocals.
I still prefer the original, might be due to all the good times and good memories associated with it tho :)
I love this tune - I'm gonna dig out the cd and listen to it in the car whilst explaining to the missus that " it samples opus-3 fine day...." She'll care. :)
The part when Lui Kang finally defeats Shang Tsung and after that the spiral soars to the sky and the angles fly to the sky and then Chan(Lui's brother) comes out.
Chan-"I'd knew you'd come"
Lui-"Chan!"
Chan-"One day, we will be reunited, but until then my spirit will always be with you. Go in Peace my brother"
@dreamgt Why is Alyssa retarded? Just ignorant about drug culture it seems. Which would make you what? A junkie because you know about every drug OTC or otherwise? Reply to show more of your incredible cognitive powers!
@AlyssaSaysYo the Hartnolls, two brothers, are Orbital.their mother used a prescription drugcalled Halcyon. the track is 'about' this. the video is shot in the Hartnoll's home. you see pictures of them as children in front of the sink. you see an adult version of them communicating with their mother through the dishwater the actress playing their mother is in fact the girl who sang the vocals in Opus III's - Fine Day, which are the vocals Orbital sampled for the track.
@AlyssaSaysYo more importantly, without using a single word they managed to better convey the sense of the effect of a drug, and the melancholic association they must have had with something that made their mother happy in this way, probably better than any lyricist would have. I don't know if you've ever taken a pain killer with a hangover, but the feeling of detatchment that results is well captured by this track. quite an achievement really.
This song was a good song, dont get me wrong. I think the baby was kinda weird, he looked like 5 year old in diapers, and isnt ths shit from mortal kombat
this tune was dedicated to the Hartnolls' mother, who was addicted to the tranquiliser Halcion (Triazolam) for many years. it's a fairly personal subject for them to touch on, and needless to say this video reflects that. i'm guess that the woman in this is supposed to be their mother, and the picture by the sink is of them as boys.
You can call it a lot of things. Ambient Techno is a popular one (don't really like the term "techno" though). Ambient breakbeat / electronica / IDM etc. Maybe even ambient house????
@fimpson I don't like the term techno either because its like just saying that its electronic music. More like a term for the methods of production rather than a genre. When people started making their own underground music community in Detroit with drum machines and samples they called it techno. But this was at a time when technology was letting people do more in their own home. So it was something bran new in that sense. Think of chiptune music, most people don't make them on chips anymore.
Exactly. Techno, it seems, is a term used by the masses when refering to mainstream trance/ house etc which is the only electronic music they hear. i.e. When a Jas Derulo fan listens to Tiesto or David Guetta they usually refer to it as "Techno" (from what I've observed). It makes me sick.
God this song is brilliant. It makes me fly! The video is awesome aswell, at first I didn't notice it was really about halcion drug.Too bad this version of the video doesn't include her dancing, it's really the best part for me.
The vocal Oooo-oooh thats starts at 1.46 is alot like my greeting call when i pop round me Grans for a brew. And she always giz me a cooo eee back but she aint as fit as her in vid washing up the pots.
epic!
