Okay. So you put DosBox on your PSP, but where does Fallout go exactly? And how do I mount, install and play it? I've been trying for awhile now and I can't figure out how to get this game to work. I really want to play it. :(
@venim1103 original Fallout CD contains 2 versions. DOS and Windows. there are two installation files at CD root. I don't remember for sure but I think - setup.exe is for Windows installation and install.exe is for DOS ver.

After fallout 1 and 2. Bethesda has done a really good job of keeping fallouts feel and updating it for todays gamers. people that hate on their work need to think about how much effort has gone in to making fallout 3.

No effort was put into it, Bethesda just recycled one of their games. Then threw in the VATS system that just doesn't work in an FPS type of game. Then they made a ton of addons for it. Then recycled F3 and shat out New Vegas.

@dakota754 lol have you seen the "Honest Hearts" trailer. Looks terrible. But I did really like all the Fallout 3 DLC's. Mothership Zeta was my least favourite but that was because I expected more from such a big idea. Fallout new vegas has got so much going on in the game which is one reason I dont like it as much as 3, Like seriously I like making choices to do with being good, bad or neutral, but I dont care for choosing one faction to join with. I liked the NCR and the brotherhood :/
@freakyfatdog you realize New Vegas is really just fallout 3 with a new map, story, and some mods that were professionally redone (BADLY I might add). All the files And the main game are the same.
Similar but FO NV is better. It has a better story that doesnt have a major plot hole, it has interesting factions with divergent paths so decisions matters more and hardcore mode adds some common sense and depth to the gameplay. Props to Bethesda for creating the engine and the art in a solid enough 3D Fallout world but when it comes to pure gameplay Obsidian took them to the woodshed.
@freakyfatdog So essentially, they added a new map, and story as I said, I will agree fallout 3's story is kind of 1 sided. you can't really piss of the BoS as they are required, Hardcore mode, they don't even come close to the mod that is based from, FWanderers Edition, Its way harder. But when it comes to gameplay, Obsidian ALMOST took em to the shed, because half the people you talk to didn't have the goodbye option on PC. And until I learned console com.-CAM The game was Unplayable.
i did the same thing here except i was running Master of Orion on my PSP and it ran "OK" because that game doesnt really have much action scenes. Just the sound lagged and i didnt know how to fix it.
@767fife If i remember correctly, I had to put the game files into the dosbox folder (in its own folder) then i would boot up the dosbox and choose to type commands in. I would navigate to the game folder using basic dos commands then type the program (game) name in and it would start. The analog stick would serve as the mouse and the L and R buttons would serve as the left and right mouse click. Thats how i did it... You would need to know how the normal DOSBOX works in order to use it...

mate, i dont know if youve tried it but if you go to config, make the resolution 600x480 and set frameskip to 4, it REALLY speeds things up. I've got x-com running like a maniac and TES:arena at about 60-80%.
@olesolo For some games, it's actually improved it. The game manages more frames because it's not trying so hard to render all of them. Just in my case.
Fallout 1 and 2. The best in the story line. Fallout 3 is the worst, and built for an impatient, and un-appreciative generation. If you would actually PLAY Fallout 1, it's a longer, far more complex game, than you could EVER hope fallout 3 + to be.

I have played FO1-3 and Fallout 3 is fucking better because it is alout more enjoyable to play! It took me weeks to play FO1 because I had to get used to such a crappy game style! It is terrible! I think I played Call of Duty four for a few weeks and got bored. Halo 3! @trentroolz exactly when i played FO3 at first i was like crap a super mutant this is going to seem tough (whip out 10mm shoot a clip im done) same for deathclaws its pretty simple (pull out plasma rifle that i got in like 3 hours instead of 3 weeks shoot it half a clip) if FO1 and FO2 deathclaws were a bitch i could barely take one down at level 16 with regular small guns had to up my firepower to plasma rifle (which missed frequently) and killed them in about 3 hits
I've got the first TES game running on the PSP. It runs at a very slow but almost playable speed. However you could never use a PSP with DOSbox to play either of them because both Daggerfall and Arena require you to move the mouse back and forth (Wii-style) in order to use your weapon - obviously this is not possible on the PSP and it renders the game unusable.

That's really cool you can do that considering Fallouts 1, 2, and Tactics are a few of my favorite PC games of all time, BUT idk if I'd do this myself just because the framerate is so bad. Is there any way to fix it or make it run faster?
The PSP actually has hardware very similar to that of the PS1 running in its High Res mode. PS2 ports are typically scaled down for the PSP in terms of speed and graphics.
Those games that are equivalent to ps2 graphics are programmed to run natively on the PSP's processor architecture and hardware. This gives them a huge performance advantage over emulated games. Whenever a game such as fallout which was originally programmed to run on PC/MS-DOS machines with x86 processor architecture is ran on an entirely different machine such as the psp, the psp has to create a virtual PC environment to trick fallout into thinking it is running on a PC.
This process can be tricky for coders, especially when the two different machines are as different as the PC and PSP are. This is why the game runs so slowly, the programmer has not perfected the emulation process.
It looks like it runs too slow.

No but MUCH MORE than frame skip, i've found that CRANKING these numbers up in the config, improves performance like crazy!

Sometimes it makes the game unstable, so experiment, but so far there hasn't been a game I haven't been able to play this way apart from Daggerfall.

@daR4V3N What the hell? What is it with people like you? Fallout 3 is a great game, and so is Fallout 1 and Fallout 2(personally, my favourite is Fallout 2). Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad. I'm not aiming this at you personally, i'm saying this to everyone who says that Fallout 3 is shit.I mean, if you played THROUGH Fallout 3 to the end, did every side quest, met everyone,gone everywhere, then your opinion matters.You probably haven't even played Fallout 3. I have played FO1-3 and Fallout 3 is fucking better because it is alout more enjoyable to play! It took me weeks to play FO1 because I had to get used to such a crappy game style! It is terrible! Yes it has a good story and dialogue but Jesus it sucks at every other aspect because it is freaken OLD!!!!
Fallout 3 brought the series back because no one wants to play a crappy old game style! You wonder why the makers of the original went out of buisiness?

I think I played Call of Duty four for a few weeks and got bored. Halo 3! I played that game alout but I never really played matchmaking and just played custom games with my friends and help run a 200 member clan. Fallout 1 and 2 are good but I play games partly for entertainment value. Also two of my favorite movies are "It's a wonderful life" and "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington". Do you like those movies you asshole.

Yes actually, i can almost guarantee that there is 200 little kids in your clan...as you may be familier with FO3 is what maybe a year old not even that. so you wanted gameplay from the late 90's where the best FPS games were games like halflife, Marathon, and Duke Nukem, but you also want them to have RPG aspects of Neverwinter Nights, that would not happen Fo1 &2 were extremely good games for their Era, they cant compete with modern games thats stupid to say that

Well i Like fallout 3, but its not as good as Tactics, or Fallout 1, But sure as hell not as good as fallout 2. And the fallout 3 is more of a offset to the fallout trilogy, and more of a sequel to TES:4 than fallout 2

Tactics sucks so is fallout better than pong? I mean pong is awesome and cool! So is wii sports and thats even better because its not a sequal to an old game! I have played through fallout 1,2,3, and a few hours of tactics and its definitive that Fallout 3 is better to me. I am not comparing them adding in the time difference! Game to game fallout 3 wins hands down. The old ones are great but they have the disadvantage of BEING OLLLLDDDDD!

@CamoJackv2 you do realize there are like 10 years in between fallout 1 and 3. I dont know who you are but perhaps you should look at more games from the time. Fallout 3 was oblvion in a fallout skin, fallout 1 was a new game type and story, aside from the obvious tributes to mad max. im sorry, have you even seen mad max? might be before your time.
if you want more "action" stick with dynasty warriors, one of its clones, or diablo. leave the thinking to the pros.

@olesolo i completely agree... the super mutants are just big people in F3, unlike F1-2 where they actually looked irradiated, with their skin flaking off.
I hope F New Vegas will have a closer bond with the first games, and from what i've seen... IT DOES :D

The good old classic games are the best, Like Fallout and Wasteland and all those other classic games. Bethesda destroyed Fallout with random crashes and bugs, the original creators of Fallout were the best.

i like fallout 1 and 2 the best, because i actually feel a reasonable sense of danger. in fo3, its just like "hey, a radscorpion." or "oh look, a feral ghoul. *one shot kill to the leg* well i'll be on my way then", or "shit, a deathclaw. whatever, they aren't that hard." but in fo2 and fo it was like "oh shit shit shit omg this isn't good a DEATHclaw! DEATHCLAW! *runs*"

@trentroolz exactly when i played FO3 at first i was like crap a super mutant this is going to seem tough (whip out 10mm shoot a clip im done) same for deathclaws its pretty simple (pull out plasma rifle that i got in like 3 hours instead of 3 weeks shoot it half a clip) if FO1 and FO2 deathclaws were a bitch i could barely take one down at level 16 with regular small guns had to up my firepower to plasma rifle (which missed frequently) and killed them in about 3 hits

I've got the first TES game running on the PSP. It runs at a very slow but almost playable speed. However you could never use a PSP with DOSbox to play either of them because both Daggerfall and Arena require you to move the mouse back and forth (Wii-style) in order to use your weapon - obviously this is not possible on the PSP and it renders the game unusable.

The PSP actually has hardware very similar to that of the PS1 running in its High Res mode. PS2 ports are typically scaled down for the PSP in terms of speed and graphics.

Those games that are equivalent to ps2 graphics are programmed to run natively on the PSP's processor architecture and hardware. This gives them a huge performance advantage over emulated games. Whenever a game such as fallout which was originally programmed to run on PC/MS-DOS machines with x86 processor architecture is ran on an entirely different machine such as the psp, the psp has to create a virtual PC environment to trick fallout into thinking it is running on a PC.

This process can be tricky for coders, especially when the two different machines are as different as the PC and PSP are. This is why the game runs so slowly, the programmer has not perfected the emulation process.
