I find it rather amusing that so many people take this so seriously.
There's a huge generation gap between those who like Conan and those who don't. Granted, there are exceptions. But most of my fellow Boomers don't care for Conan much.
Check out NBC's message board for Conan. A lot of his fans there are worried that he'll be changing his style of humor to appeal to the older viewers at 11:30. And not all of them think many Boomers will go for Conan. Enjoy the uncertainty.
I can't wait for him to get back on the air , I am worried it will change and lose it's edge. I like him and a lot of other people do. If you don't care for him fine. you can watch other things.
Oh, I get his "humor". It's just too juvenile for most people. And I'm not trying to change your mind, either. Just preparing people for Conan's ultimate drop in the ratings due to changes he'll make to appeal to the more mature audience at 11:30.
how is he pretentious if his comedy is "juvenile"? It's obvious you don't get his humor, or maybe don't have the ability to. Isn't it uncomfortable to live that stick up your ass?
If Leno's headlines are goofy I guess that must mean Conan's masturbating bear must be his style of quality writing.
It'll take more than a middle school joke that pre-teens chuckle at to keep the viewers coming back.
Conan IS trying to change to appeal to a wider base. The question is, will his fans enjoy more sophisticated humor than he's been giving them up to this point?
You think I give a damn? I'm not the one acting holier-than-thou. Get over yourself, Conan's coming to 11:30, and there's nothing you can do about it. If you're gonna stop watching before even giving it a chance, then obviously nothing of importance was lost.
My advice to you would be to watch him while you can. There's a chance FOX would pick him up when NBC drops him due to low ratings, but you'd be better advised to switch to someone who knows how to write comedy for audiences that are above the early teens.
And most of the other hosts know how to bring their hairstyles under control, too.
You've already proved yourself incapable of giving anybody sound advice, when you openly mock something you obviously have complete ignorance of outside of an occasional masturbating bear sketch.
If there's any advice you could plausibly offer anyone, it'd be to dial 9-1-1 and have them bring the WAAAAAAAAAAHmbulance around for each hissy fit thrown.
Denial won't prevent the inevitable for Conan. It simply leaves his fans wondering how they ever thought people would flock to his new timeslot to get hooked on his comic "genius". They would have been better off watching clips of Conan's lookalike over in Scandinavia.
If Conan can go from being an unknown writer hosting his own show, and turn it into a success story of mainstream popularity and cultural significance, then moving back an hour isn't going to be stopping him.
Your argument is flawed because you're basing your entire opinion on a scenario that hasn't even happened yet. You're just acting as a rally monkey for hating Conan, his masturbating bear, and a look-alike in FINLAND, and no amount of your flag-waving will prevent his success, either.
The only way Conan can survive at 11:30 is to change. His current fans don't want that to happen, but it's reality. NBC loses the older viewers if he doesn't change and a lot of the younger viewers if he does.
NBC can pretty much write off the 11:30 timeslot unless they get someone like Craig Ferguson or even Jon Stewart (who appeals to a wider audience) to head up Tonight.
so did i beat you carnaco2 becasue you wont argue with me anymore? you know your wrong cause hes the most liked and watched. if anyone is in denial its you
Enjoy him while you can. He already started changing ever so subtly before his last show in NY. He'll never be the same Conan he's been for years, and he'll certainly never be as good as the competition.
wait so now you want me to enjoy him hes good now what? and he hasnt changed at all in the last shows hes was still the same goofy self in the monolouge and they were showing a lot of old clips so he didnt do much else. he even said "there's no way im changing i cant its who i am" he even cleared with NBC if he can still be like this. Krazydude34- 12 points Carnaco2- 0 points
I forgot I was dealing with Conan's mentality. You can tell someone to enjoy something even if what they're enjoying isn't any good, which is what I've told you. Watch NBC suggest to Conan he might improve his material so he'll appeal to a wider audience when the ratings start to decline.
its the exact same thing with you. im guessing your a huge fan of david letterman and since conan took over for him you autamaically told yourself oh he sucks
im gonna bring up exactly what another guy said the so called "mature" audience are about to satart going to bed at 7:00 pm and dying. while the "sesame street" audience will watch conan and stay #1
i didnt say it was original im just bringing up a good point on my side of the argument. which at least i have no ones on your side at least on here. in fact very few people are on your side in the world so yeah
I'm not going to miss Leno one bit, he's run out of steam for years now. Any numbnut can have people send him goofy headlines or search for goofy EBay auctions. Even his back and forths with Kevin Eubanks were just the same joke over and over "lol Kevin smokes marijuana".
Makes perfect sense,. doesn't it, carnaco? All the baby boomers getting up there in years are so used to their comfy Leno comedy that the thought of Conan O'Brien and his new generation of "juvenile" humor scares you.
Conan fan clubs may think people love both Conan and the Tonight show, but it's a fact that audiences who watch at Tonight's time are looking for mature comedy, not the juvenile material churned out by Conan's staff. When the ratings for the show start to drop, Conan's fans will start to see the light. Conan can't compare with Dave or any of Tonight's previous hosts.
Give me Dave, Craig Ferguson or Jay. Let Conan go to Europe where they'll take any comedian, even if he isn't truly funny.
Are you saying fans of a television show use ratings to determine whether they will continue watching a show or not? If I'm a fan of a show, I'll watch it no matter what. That's why their called FANS...they watch the show because they like it. I wouldn't stop watching it because the ratings drop.
Jay Leno sucks at interviews & insults his guests about their appearance or something. He makes them uncomfortable. He's an idiot. incapable of an intelligent interview that Dave Letterman is so great at. I love Conan and how silly he is. What is going to stifle him in is move to The Tonight Show is that he won't be able to do that sick & hysterical stuff he does on his show,.the masturbating Bear, Triumph the insult dog,S&M Lincoln, ect. I wish he was staying where he shines. Will have 2 C.

It may take Conan fans a while to realize that The Tonight Show audience is a bit more mature than those that watch Conan. What humor Conan may have isn't what they're interested in, so you can expect a flood of current Tonight viewers to switch to Dave or stop watching altogether. And the ratings will drop as a result.
And ONE Emmy in almost 13 years? In 15 years, Dave's show has won 15 Emmys. People in the entertainment know the quality stuff and award it.
Carnaco2...Conan has more younger viewers than Leno and Letterman combined. He's a comedian for newer, younger viewers, and "newer, younger" are Holy Grail words in the TV game. So while the mature audiences of Leno and Letterman keep getting older(i mean more mature) and start having dinner at 3pm and going to bed at 6pm...Conan will have an army of young viewers...and who do you think will be alive and watching television for the next 50 years...that's right the young generation of Conan fans
Conan obviously does have more younger viewers than the others, but he doesn't have more total viewers than the others combined.
One reason Johnny Carson lasted for so long was his appeal to all segments, something Conan definitely doesn't have. And, as Conan's fans age, who's to say their tastes move on to something less juvenile than Conan. I've seen comments by some fans that he's already started to subtly change to appeal to the older audience in his new time slot.
But the NBC execs aren't trying to keep the same demographic that is currently watching The Tonight Show. If they were they would have left Leno where he is. They obviously know what type of viewer is watching which shows and decided to make the switch and change the demographic of Tonight Show viewers. We can argue what is funny and what is not until the end of time, it just differing opinions...thats what makes the world go round.
You'd better be praying, then, that there are more younger viewers who will continue to watch Conan than there are older viewers who'll stay with Dave or give up on Tonight altogether. I'd say Boomers far outnumber the younger viewers. Conan has even talked of retooling his comedy to appeal to the earlier time slot, so success isn't a foregone conclusion. He'll have to change and work hard to bring his ratings up.
Carnaco2, what did Conan O Brien do to you to get you so mad at him? You're quite persistent about convincing the world he's not funny. Do you have a personal problem with something he did, or is it just jealousy that so many people find him amusing?
Is it unnacceptable to like not just one, but two or maybe even three talk show hosts?

It seems apparent that the same people who watch Sesame Street also have their parents record Conan for them so they'll have another show at their level that they can laugh at. Although it's inconceivable that even children would be able to find anything remotely funny about Conan.
dude things like masturbating bear are so random is why its funny plus tons of people like it cause the majority of viewers are average americans not stuck up pricks like yourself. your gonna keep calling him unfunny but until he's the lowest watced talk show instead of the highest you got nothing.
Until he shows his output is worth the awards his peers vote on his show is in danger of being axed. Watch as the viewers start leaving Tonight once he takes over. All the Conan fans in the world watching Tonight couldn't being to equal the # that will stop watching once Conan moves out to L.A. Oh well. New York's gain is L.A.'s loss. Add Conan to earthquakes and smog as reasons not to move to L.A.
wait your saying he's gonna start losing fans because hes on the tongiht show? wait what? if anything he would get more since its an earlier time slot. its gonna still be same old conan so he not losing fans. plus a lot of people, once again fans and average american tv watchers, have come up to conan saying they'll miss him for god sakes he got a key to the city, well it was the men's bathroom but they only said that to make it funny for the show.
hey this is from IMBd a site thats respected for entertainment: most people would agree Conan O'Brien is the king of late night television. His show now is almost thirteen years old. They made this special into a primetime special so i watched it then. Conan O'Brien has the funniest sketches. Whether it is In the year 2000, the Walker Texas ranger lever,if they mated or celebrity survey they are all so funny. I have never gotten through an episode of Conan with out laughing.
Why Do the People Like Conan, you ask? Because He is the only Comedian that makes Fun of Himself unlike the majority of the Comedians that make fun of others

I like the video because it's a perfect example of contrasts On the one hand, you've got someone who's extremely skilled at his craft and on the other hand, you've got Conan, totally lacking in anything but juvenile humor.
Sure took a comedic genius to come up with something like the Masturbating Bear. See how long that would last with The Tonight Show's current demographic audience. TV sets all across America switching to Dave.
you are fucking retarded. Conan Obrien has smart comedy, slapstick comedy and low brow comedy. You have your head in your ass... i think that's funny.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
My apparently obvious (to some) inference was that the poster's comment lacked any humor whatsoever, thus matching Conan's total lack of any humor that appeals to audiences that know good humor.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He'll drop like a rock in Tonight's time slot unless his juvenile humor grows up. It doesn't appeal at all to the demographic for that time slot. A "Masturbating Bear" as a regular on The Tonight Show? Steve Allen, Jack Paar and Johnny Carson wouldn't have to stoop to something like that to get laughs.
I love Conan. I hope he can stay true in LA. I love interviews like this because then people can see that he has so much more to him then just being a dork on a late night show. IConan is an incredibly intelligent man.
Check out some clips of Steve Allen and view them keeping in mind the comedy that was available on TV when he was on. Sexual humor was nowhere near as explicit as today, yet Allen was able to get laughs without such humor. In addition, the man had quite an intellect and composed numerous songs and wrote books, all this on top of being a very funny person.
Boomers had Allen and Carson to cut their teeth on
Ok man, so i don't know where talent is. So I ask you, carnaco2, in this talk-show cathegory, who's funnier? 'Cos i don't see a lot of talk-shows and i whished to know. thnak you.
EdMaGoFa--One can't always generalize about age groups, but the demographics for the late night shows indicate that college age people think Conan's great, while many Boomers will stick with Jay or Dave.
I prefer Dave's humor, but also thoroughly enjoy Jon Stewart and Craig Ferguson. I'll admit Conan is funny, but I moved on from his type of humor long ago.
Dave is definitely the best. No argument there. But the brilliance of Conan is he is a bridge between the college kid and the old guy, he has something to offer both.
Jay is boring, Stewart is brilliant in what he does, and Ferguson is meh.
Well, i'm still in college...maybe that's why! But I also like those guys you mentioned, specially Stewart. I think that guy's amazing and Colbert is absolutely hysterical,v ery funny indeed... The thing is that I like smart humour, but at the end, funny is funny. Dave has a great show, but I think Conan is very cartoonish, wish is cool. I think he's creative, that's all.

Charlie knows that Conan has become another leftist suck up. As long as you pay the PC toll, which he does, you gain favor with the dominant entertainment culture. Unfortunately it makes for a very boring person. Guys like Conan, for this reason, are most funny when they start out, and decline from there.
and you, in the same vein, are most funny when you shut your mouth. at the beginning. before you even try. guys like you, for this reason are most respected when they SHUT THE FUCK UP.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
jeez Conan seems so old and jaded here... Although i've always seen a kinda deep deadness in his eyes these past years. Also a rehearsed fake laughter when the jokes bomb
rofl are you serious, he's by far the best. He's a great interviewer and his intro skits are hillarious. Letterman is a good interviewer but his jokes fucking suck the first half of the show is just brutal. Leno is a bit better but hes still pretty much in the Letterman camp. and Carson Daly, well cant even go there that guys just terrible
I can't speak for all Boomers, but Conan isn't my cup of tea. Having had the experience of enjoying Johnny Carson for years, plus a little bit of Jack Paar and Steve Allen, Conan personally doesn't seem to me to be able to fill those shoes.
I've talked with some Conan fans who already feel he's changing his wild style to conform more to the Tonight Show time slot. We'll have to wait and see how it all turns out.
I like him in modest doses. I think the flavor of comedy has changed for the worse. Some of the blue humor is funny, other bits of it are just off color and tasteless.
yea but i don't want conan to conform when he gets the tonight show,i like'em weird and original.he's not carson, but noone is.i love letterman, and he comes closest to carson to me,but i hate leno.
I guess all the college students now watching Jay at 11:30 will have to shift over to Letterman, whereas all the Boomers watching Conan (!?!?) can now start watching him at an earlier time.
I agree with you. But in some previous posts, semantics seemed to give another poster the idea I thought Boomers went for Conan and college students went for Leno. That's ridiculous. Although Leno pulls in more of the 18-49 age group than Letterman, Conan bests both of them with that age group. Boomers will still watch Jay at 10. Don't know if college students will want to watch Conan in the Tonight Show time slot, though.
Ah I see what you're talking about now, I read some more of the previous posts. I definately think the college students will tune in to Conan on the Tonight Show, but whether they stay fans will be based on whether he changes his humor and style too much. It also depends on how funny Jimmy Fallon is haha
i don't think it'll matter when he changes to 11:35.i mean conan is my favorite of the late night hosts, but i never arrange my schedule around his show,so its not like him being on earlier is gonna make a difference.only thing that'll make me not watch is if they make him change his style of humor to conform to a different audience.i like conan how he is,weird and original.
the most talented and warmest hearted man in show business history, the best comedian ever, he stretches laughter better than anyone else to let people feel special, not snide

Add Conan to earthquakes and smog as reasons not to move to L.A.
carnaco2 2 years ago
wait your saying he's gonna start losing fans because hes on the tongiht show? wait what? if anything he would get more since its an earlier time slot. its gonna still be same old conan so he not losing fans. plus a lot of people, once again fans and average american tv watchers, have come up to conan saying they'll miss him for god sakes he got a key to the city, well it was the men's bathroom but they only said that to make it funny for the show.
krazydude34 2 years ago
hey this is from IMBd a site thats respected for entertainment: most people would agree Conan O'Brien is the king of late night television.

People who dislike Conan and his show's "sense of humor" like comedic talent that is really funny, not someone like Conan.

My apparently obvious (to some) inference was that the poster's comment lacked any humor whatsoever, thus matching Conan's total lack of any humor that appeals to audiences that know good humor.

He'll drop like a rock in Tonight's time slot unless his juvenile humor grows up. It doesn't appeal at all to the demographic for that time slot. A "Masturbating Bear" as a regular on The Tonight Show? Steve Allen, Jack Paar and Johnny Carson wouldn't have to stoop to something like that to get laughs.
carnaco2 2 years ago
well said! it's a weird change and most likely the "adjustments" will get pretty artificial. The guy's smart, though.

Steve Allen? Yea, it's not 1955 anymore. I take it you're a fan of the least funny talk show host on American TV, Jay Leno?

None of them compare to Johnny, Jack Paar or Steve Allen.

Boomers had Allen and Carson to cut their teeth on
carnaco2 3 years ago
Conan is the best.

Ok man, so i don't know where talent is. So I ask you, carnaco2, in this talk-show cathegory, who's funnier? 'Cos i don't see a lot of talk-shows and i whished to know. thnak you.
EdMaGoFa 3 years ago
EdMaGoFa--One can't always generalize about age groups, but the demographics for the late night shows indicate that college age people think Conan's great, while many Boomers will stick with Jay or Dave.
I prefer Dave's humor, but also thoroughly enjoy Jon Stewart and Craig Ferguson. I'll admit Conan is funny, but I moved on from his type of humor long ago.
carnaco2 3 years ago
Dave is definitely the best. No argument there. But the brilliance of Conan is he is a bridge between the college kid and the old guy, he has something to offer both.
Jay is boring, Stewart is brilliant in what he does, and Ferguson is meh.
wtftelevision 3 years ago 2
I was in college when Carson was in his prime and I used to watch the entire 90-minute show.
Getting into the workplace had me getting up at 4am, so after Johnny retired, I had to pass on late-night shows. Until, that is, I got a VCR.
I was drawn to Dave because he seemed more polished in his monologue. Yeah, he could bite the head off of some guests, but that was his style.
Since I used to drop things off bldgs as a kid, I was drawn to Dave's stunts along those lines. Can't stand Paul tho
carnaco2 3 years ago

Conan in no way reaches the stature or talents of any of the other late night hosts, from Steve Allen on down to those today.
He's got some rabid followers for whom his brand of juvenile humor is appealing, but that will dry up once he moves to The Tonight Show.
carnaco2 3 years ago
rofl are you serious, he's by far the best.

We'll have to wait and see how it all turns out.
carnaco2 3 years ago
I like him in modest doses. I think the flavor of comedy has changed for the worse. Some of the blue humor is funny, other bits of it are just off color and tasteless.
Capt777harris 3 years ago
yea but i don't want conan to conform when he gets the tonight show,i like'em weird and original.he's not carson, but noone is.i love letterman, and he comes closest to carson to me,but i hate leno.
slantedeskimo 3 years ago 3
I guess all the college students now watching Jay at 11:30 will have to shift over to Letterman, whereas all the Boomers watching Conan (!?!?) can now start watching him at an earlier time.
carnaco2 3 years ago
Jay's still gonna come on, just at an earlier time.
stuntflix 3 years ago
What college student watches Leno? Everyone I know prefers Conan because he's more out there.
NateBiggity 3 years ago 3
I agree with you. But in some previous posts, semantics seemed to give another poster the idea I thought Boomers went for Conan and college students went for Leno. That's ridiculous. Although Leno pulls in more of the 18-49 age group than Letterman, Conan bests both of them with that age group. Boomers will still watch Jay at 10. Don't know if college students will want to watch Conan in the Tonight Show time slot, though.
carnaco2 3 years ago
Ah I see what you're talking about now, I read some more of the previous posts. I definately think the college students will tune in to Conan on the Tonight Show, but whether they stay fans will be based on whether he changes his humor and style too much. It also depends on how funny Jimmy Fallon is haha
NateBiggity 3 years ago
i don't think it'll matter when he changes to 11:35.i mean conan is my favorite of the late night hosts, but i never arrange my schedule around his show,so its not like him being on earlier is gonna make a difference.only thing that'll make me not watch is if they make him change his style of humor to conform to a different audience.i like conan how he is,weird and original.
slantedeskimo 3 years ago
I absolutly agree. If he isn't the Conan he is now, I will probably not watch it.
