Nice video, just very hard to see given the camera angle. And i can't make out what is being done at the end of the first row of star stitches, how the half double crochet is made. That part goes too fast and is hidden by hand. Confused. I hope i can figure out how to continue.
It is a beautiful stitch though and i started an afghan using it. You have a very nice, soothing voice!
PLEASE HELP ME! I want to start this pattern to make a baby Blanket but IAM not sure how many chains I need IAM an expecting mommy so I can't wait to start please TERESA can you help me here is my email alma9118@gmail.com
@marialove915 Someone correct me if i am wrong for the Star Stitch but i think it doesn't matter; it depends on how wide you want your scarf; you just do as many chains as you want your scarf WIDE. I just completed a scarf and i made my beginning chain 25 chains long. I might have even gone to 30. Any less and scarf would have been too thin for my taste. It was my first scarf, first crochet project and it turned out wonderful. But I used the Double Crochet stitch, not Star. Not sure it matters
(cont) What I have been doing is, at the end of the half double crochet row, chaining four, adding four loops to the hook from my chain and two from the tops of the first two half double crochets. Is this correct? It always seems to want to grow by a star each row and I'm having to count, which seems like I must be doing something wrong?
Hi Teresa, firstly may I say that your tutorials have been a massive help - I've gone from never having crocheted before to making my first blanket. I'm using this star stitch, but I'm having a problem with the right hand side (where you start the bottom of the star, adding six loops and pulling through), in that I can't seem to keep the edge straight. I'm only doing one colour, so I couldn't exactly follow your tutorial.(cont.)
your videos are soooo helpful :) I looked at other videos for this star stitch and they confused me....u are amazing at explaining the pattern and what u are doing...thank u thank u thank u for such amazing tutorials :)
i just want to say that thank you so much for your tutorials esp. the iphone bag! it really helped me in my tle project( though i do remembered you said it wasn't recommended lol)..anywho, my bestfriend liked it and my classmates now wanted to try it too...oh yeah, right now, im totally addicted to crochet :)
First of all thank you for your wonderfull channel! I have been working on a baby blanket using the srat stich and it is coming up wonderfully! I was wondering if there is a way to make a border to the blanket since it is a bit more narrow than I intented...
First of all...thank you for teaching me EVERYTHING! I have a question regarding the star stitch. When I am making the star (after the first stitch in the top of the chain at the top, when there are two loops on the hook) do I then go through both loops on the side stitch of the star? Thank you!
@haylinmilsam I go through two loops on the side but the angle of the camera did not show it very well. Whenever there are two loops, I prefer to go through two because it make the stitch more secure and look neater. When you go through one loop, it tends to pull and look sloppy.
Lady you have place in my heart.Thank you very much for all that you taught me.I would love to post this comment to all of your videos.Greetings from India!
Thank you for your inspiring show. I was wondering if maybe you could show how to crochet a pattern called sweet hugs and kisses? I have crocheted many of your patterns and my family has enjoyed them, so again thank you!
Thank you your inspiring show. I was wondering if maybe you could show how to crochet a pattern called sweet hugs and kisses? I have crochet many of your patterns and my family has enjoyed them, so again thank you!
Is there any way to turn off the slow motion? I really don't like it and it cuts off for me at the end when I really am paying attentiion on how to end the row and I it seems to skip over it and how to start the next row.
Hey there Lady T, I was wondering if this stitch is viable for a border? I am crocheting an american flag (to the executive order) with stars and all and I have this gold yarn for the border when I finally finish and I was wondering if there was a way to modify this for a border stitch? (And if it's compatible with adding fringe?)
@StarSplitter87 It would make a great border! You will need to work a modified stitch in the corners so there are extra stitches. This is so the corners do not tug and pull up. You should be able to add fringe as well.
@tjw1963 I think I know what you mean. I'm sorry, I'm still such a novice! So are you saying to put a star a few stiches early to add stitches or chain a few to add some room at the corners? I have relatively current pics I'll private message you!
This is gorgeous!!!! I don't think I've ever seen the star pattern till now. I will definitely be trying this. Thank you for going step by step, slow-mo, and including written instructions. I'm a bit dislexic and I need the help. You do such beautiful work.
I was able to figure out how to get the loose stich but now I can't get it to lay straight. Yours is so straight and flat. Mine always has a wave in it
Hi how do u pull the loops up loosly? Whenever i do it, it just ends up pulling tight :s. I tried the baby shoes u did with a similar stitch and that was also pulled tight. Urghh :(.
@xMyLittlePrincessx What you will do is practice loosening the grip on your yarn. The looser the yarn, the larger you will be able to make your stitches. You can use your hook to pull up the loop of yarn.
@plumechat You will start the same way as you will a hat. The half double crochet round will be your increase round, where you work extra stitches. This will set you up for the next round working the second round of star stitch.
I would love to do a baby blanket with this stitch. Do you have a pattern? If so can you direct me to the link. Thank you. Email me at: godsprincess1980@gmail.com
What a fun stitch! Because of your fabulous tutorials, I finally had to create an account so I can thank you for your VERY clear explanations For lack of having a "live" teacher, I am self-taught and not particularly clever, but with your help, I've learned so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Also, with a click of a mouse I can get you to repeat as much as I need and not be embarrassed at my denseness!
i had just a few questions. umm..do you have to change yarns? i have a beautiful multicolor yarn that i think would be beautiful. and if not, how would you begin the second row? and also, how big would it have to be for a normal afghan? thanks, kelsie.
@lacemaker2 The yarn is 4 ply yarn and the hook looks like it may be a size G or H. You can do the stitch with different size hooks so you don't need the exact size I used.
I am going to try and learn this when I get the chance. Hopefully soon would love to do a lot of different colored squares. And than put them together and make a blanket for a baby..
Thank you for answering my question. Oh if only I knew what you were talking about! lol I will have to look on youtube for a demo or something. i've only started crocheting for a week now. Its still really difficult. thanks!
Got a question on the multiple thing, for example this video it is multiple of 2+3. Does that mean your chain will be a chain that is divisible by two and you add 3 chains at the end before you start? Otherwise could you explain to me what "multiple of 2+3" means since you started with a chain of 24? Btw love your vids! A++!
@thatmyrabbee The multiple of two means that it takes two chains to make the pattern stitch. If you want 50 star stitch, you will crochet 100 chains plus 3 for 103. The plus amount is done only once and is for the extra chains needed to complete the odd amount of the beginning stitch. I hope that makes sense.
Hi Teresa! I don´t get it;=(! You say the stitch works with multiples of 2 +3 and then you say you chained up 24, shouldn´t it be 25 then or 21? Please help! Greetz
@trillajenn Thats what i thought. it means you need an odd amount of stitches total.... i think. I did a blanket with 123 stitches and it seems to be working lol
I am just started to learn crochet. I came across ur video. I wanted to make a baby blanked in this pattern...U r a good teacher..I didn't get "multiple is 2 +3"? That means how many chain stich i have to put for a blanket .Can u explain this please...Thanks.
I am a beginner crocheter, and I loved the video. I understand what to do completely. However, if I wanted to make a blanket would you just make 6" squares and sew them together or is there a way to make it all at once? Also, what technique would you use for your first blanket? Thanks!
@catlynn1964 The multiple is how many chains it take to work the pattern stitch. It take 2 chains to work the star stitch. It is important when estimating the length of your chain.
Your crochet videos are the best, I came across this video this afternoon whilst browsing Youtube. I got out some wool and a crochet hook and followed the video and am now making a baby shawl for a work colleague who is very soon having a baby shower. Thank you once again
thank you, thank you! for making this video! Yours is the clearest and I love the slow motion you added. Had the hardest time trying to understand the crochet pattern instructions I am trying to learn from. And your video totally made my day!
Teresa, you and your videos are a blessing, you are a wonderful teacher and I look forward to continuing to learn from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.
Can anyone tell me how many stitches I need to start off the star stitch afghan. I am no pro at crochet and have a hard time figuring out the multiples....lol Thanks in advance.
It will depend on how wide you want your afghan. I suggest that you just crochet a chain to the length that you want and then work the stitch. Your chain may not come out exact but that is alright. I have a video tutorial on this method. It is a technique so you don't have to worry about multiples.
I experimented with this stitch today and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! I'm am going to make an afghan with this stitch! Thank you so much for all your videos!!! They are so awesome!!
Hi! I was having the same problem too and after watching the video very closely I figured out what I was doing wrong. Maybe this will help you too. Once youve chained three and are starting to work the bottom of the star stitch, you actually insert your hook into each chain on the chain three and draw up a loop. You insert your hook into the previous worked half double crochets when you are pulling up loops 5 & 6.
Im making scarfs for my friends daughter. Im just now learning and your videos help me ssooo much. When people ask who taught me, I can say Ms. Teresa. Thank you soo much. You videos are very much appreciated. And I love the fact that you do a slow motion.
PS. Can you post a video (or link if you already have one) of how you hold your yarn? It looks like I can go faster doing it your way. I usually have to let go of the piece in order to YO. Thanks once again.
Thank you so much for the slow motion step by step. I have learned so my by watching your video and im still learning Thank you for having the patients to do your videos . What size hook was used ?
this is great! my grandmother taught me to crochet when I was little, but I haven't done it in years. So hard to teach yourself from the instructions in books, much easier to watch someone do it. Can't wait to start something. Great channel!
thank you an avid crochet friend wanted to learn this stictch and thanks to your expertise and excellent demo i taught her how and also am making a beautiful afghan as well thanks so much for teaching years ago my mom bought a kit for my sis she made a ver pointed ripple or chevron with increased and decrease i would love to do that in a rainbow but cannot find a pattern thanks again
I love your videos. They help me a lot, I'm gonna use this stitch for a baby blanket I am making for my little girl. And I might use a few other stitches you got for it as well.
Thanks for posting this. It's a very nice stitch. I will try to make this work as a contrasting border on the baby blanket I am working on. Great inspiration - thanks again!
do you have a pattern for a baby cocoon? I found one it was too cute.. its was green with 2 peas on the front and a beanie to match. I looked like it was just a big beanie hat they sat in but it has a little opening around the neck. The pattern was like $6 so i was just checking to see if you knew how to make one.
i love this stitch and would love to make a baby blanket with how may changes would i do. I am sure what you mean by Multiples of two. I always just ready the pattern and do what it tells me.....LOL thanks
A multiple is so you can make it larger. That just means that the stitch itself take 2 chains to make the stitch. I am estimating 125 chains for a baby afghan but that will depend on what type of yarn you use and the size crochet hook.
I have learned a lot by creating many of the projects. I would like to know whether you have a video or an easy to follow pattern for a hooded scarf with pockets? I would love to have something like that for the winter... Thankz...
I just want to thank you so much for what you're doing. You really have taught me a lot. You're such an excellent teacher and your videos are just the best EVER!

It will depend on how wide you want your afghan. I suggest that you just crochet a chain to the length that you want and then work the stitch. Your chain may not come out exact but that is alright. I have a video tutorial on this method. It is a technique so you don't have to worry about multiples.

Thanks once again.

khandyissweet 2 years ago
Thank you for the comment. I may have used a size H or I crochet hook. This stitch can be done with a variety of crochet hooks.

this is great! my grandmother taught me to crochet when I was little, but I haven't done it in years. So hard to teach yourself from the instructions in books, much easier to watch someone do it. Can't wait to start something. Great channel!

I always just ready the pattern and do what it tells me.....LOL thanks
bonmountford 2 years ago 2
A multiple is so you can make it larger. That just means that the stitch itself take 2 chains to make the stitch. I am estimating 125 chains for a baby afghan but that will depend on what type of yarn you use and the size crochet hook.
tjw1963 2 years ago
ohh pretty. cant wait to try this one out.
vdaniela3 2 years ago 2
I have learned a lot by creating many of the projects. I would like to know whether you have a video or an easy to follow pattern for a hooded scarf with pockets? I would love to have something like that for the winter... Thankz...

Teresa: On the 3rd row it looks as though
you're going through both loops of the
hdc; is this correct? Also, on your begin-
nig chain, you chained 24, which does not
come out to multiples of 2 + 3.
Thanks for any further explanation. This
is a lovely stitch.

I was able to make it work both ways. The most import part of the multiple is the 2, which is what you need for each stitch.
tjw1963 2 years ago
I love this! It looks really beautiful. It looks like you are stitching back loops only when doing the blue. Is that rite?
GoBrowns64 2 years ago
I am going through both loops. The stitch does create a ridge on the backside of the square.
tjw1963 2 years ago
I just want to thank you so much for what you're doing. You really have taught me a lot. You're such an excellent teacher and your videos are just the best EVER!
