  • Hi, SeanGGodley. I have a question for you. I just want to know the meaning of this words '' first you strategically position your pieces, and when the timing is right, you strike '' ?.

  • Hehe I didn't realize till the end of the video that Kasparov was playing without his queen

  • thanks!

  • Dear Killegar, your commentary on all of the games you post is extremely well pased and very educational and fun. This is by far the best youtube chess page. i wonder if you can or have your own chess channel?

  • Kramnik obviously watched this

  • hey sean...good one as usal ;-) kind regards

  • I would NEVER give up a queen for 2 pieces, but that's one of the differences between grandmasters and me. Awesome

  • In my humble, very humble opinion, I think that kasparov was a better player than bobby fischer... I was just thinking about chess today and how there are no super players the way there were in these days... Maybe Magnus will step up and take that role but while vishy and the bunch are amazing they're nothing like kasparov or fischer... My 2 cents...

  • Who among us would have the courage to sacrifice the Q for two minor pieces -- and so early in the game ?! Absolutely incredible. And Kasparov was playing not against some amateur, but Kramnik. I am in awe of the man.

  • so strategically position is better than tactically position huh?.

  • Could you do an analysis video on Kramnik's World Championship victory over Kasparov in 2000. The two victories in the match, both by Kramnik. Would be interesting. Thanks!

  • Very well played by Kasparov, and I don't think Fritz is strong enough to properly analyze a game between these 2 super GMs because either of them is stronger than Fritz

  • i love how kasparov allows his queen to go for superior position.

thank you sean for the analysis on this wonderful game.

  • well presented analysis. thanks.

  • Dude, you can't just say: Fritz say that, Rybka said that, etc..

As Kasparov himself said: The computer can never BEAT the human mind. Yeah, they can beat us in chess, but they can't see the depth in the position. For instance, my coach showed me a position, where I played white, and he played black. It was different colors on the bishops, but that SHOULDN'T count since I were 3 pawns up.. You know what? I couldn't win, and it pissed me off. The intuition to the humankind is weird and beautiful

  • Nice, thanks.

  • very nice

  • My brain starting to hurt every time I watch this kinds videos, especially chess games videos.

  • what wouldve happened if white moved his queen to that safer square? Can you describe what it was and what wouldve happened?

  • im favouriting all of these videos. please put up more and more videos! post videos on how to perfect all kinds of openings, and maybe you could put up some sample matches so that we could all learn!

  • I really like your videos Sean, clear style, great explanations. Well done.

  • nice post dude, thank you.out of ordinary games are really cool, like Queen sacrifice or coming from almost dead position etc. thanx again

  • it'd be cool if you could show the material that has been won by either player on the side of the game as they are won

  • Oh my fucking God. Kasparov is a genius.

  • If this was in a blitz game, then that's INSANE!!! Hats off to GK

  • I think you could have spent abit more time analyzing that Queen sacrifice, it doesn`t look correct.

Anyways, i love your voice... Makes me fall asleep for a baby if i watch for long enough :)

  • Thanks! Yes I don't think the queen sac was totally sound. I didn't realise at the time when I was making the video that it was a blitz game; otherwise I don't think Kasparov would have played it. All the best and thanks again!

    Sean

  • inspiring!

  • After 34. ...g4 35 Nxe5 Rxe3 36 Nxd7, I rather think that the correct move wouldn't be 36 ... Nh3+, but the much stronger 36 ... Bd4 37 Bxg3 Rg3+ and then it's game over much faster.

It was a blitz, so GK missed a few huge opportunities like 25 ... Re5. But the queen sacrifice is so beautiful and deep (especially for a blitz) that I think we can forgive him ! Thanks for this video.

  • Hi - no worries at all, glad you enjoyed the game. All the best,

    Sean

  • tell me was this a long game?

did kasparov actly calculate all the advantages he would have with the queen sacrifice or did he just settle for the initial gains of his sacrifice?

can u tell me how to fully analyze a game using fritz 10?

    (i can't figure it out?)

  • Hiya - this was a blitz game. I didn't realise when I made the video, or I would have said. I doubt Kasparov calculated everything; it's more probable that it was an instinctual sacrifice.

I don't use Fritz 10, but Fritz 5.32. In order to analyse games fully I click the "coach" tab and select "analyse game" - but your version may work differently. Hope this helps!

    Sean

  • How complex! well, I guess it should be - we are talking about the previous world champion after all.

  • Nice game, although I think you should have mentioned that this was a blitz game (5 minutes per game). I doubt Kasparov would play so risky in a standard time control game.

  • Really? I was not aware of tha or I would certainly have mentioned it. I guess that explains the innaccuracies that were played too. I found the game online and no reference was given there to the fact that it was a blitz. Thanks for pointing it out!

    Sean

  • @SeanGGodley definitely blitz. just a tid bit of info: kasparov and kramnik never defeated each other with the black pieces in standard time controls. (not because they were so accurate, more because they wouldn't dare to take much risks with black.

  • you must consider that although white is slightly better after the queen sacrifice other players (van der wiel in '95 and van wely in in '94 and Schekachev) had the courage 2 to also play the sacrifice in later games but if white plays solidly the sacrifice isn't as dangerous as in the game

  • great game. Kasparov is brilliant.

  • Very nice game

    Tnx Sean

  • Great game...

  • Wow, what an amazing game.

  • Maybe it's sometimes better to make it two parts when commenting such a game:) Great job anyway!:)

  • this is the first queen sacrifice that I have seen that does not involve a forced mate directly afterwards!

  • Yes, I analyse the games with Fritz and go thru various alternatives myself. You can download Fritz for free, I recommend it highly!

  • which version?

  • 5.32 =0)

  • Can you give me instructions on how to?!?

  • thanks for the videos sean love these miniatures! where do i find the free download? everywhere i try and download it asks for money.

  • Do you mean for Fritz? If you search for version 5.32 on google you should find it easily. It's German to begin with but you can change that once you have downloaded it. All the best!

    Sean

  • Great stuff

  • This is one of the most impressive kasparov performances ive ever seen.

  • Holy crap. I swear I must have seen that very position in my games before but never in a million years would I have considered just sacing the queen like that. Wow! Simply wow! Good find, Sean.

At first, I was thinking why did you post another game between the these two players, but seeing the product, I'm definitely convinced that this was a great game to show. Superb queen sacrifice, much better than those involving forced mates.

  • Thanks buddy - glad you enjoyed it!

    Sean

  • That was not over the board chess! he must have prepared that sacrifice. genius!

  • amazing!!!

  • wow the first sacrifice is amazing, but the mate was much better!!!. sacrificing the queen twice to mate the opponent is what i call a great game!!!

  • Wouldn't we all love to play the KID like that? hahaha. Great game, cheers
