There are some songs you encounter, sometimes, that prove you've learned something about music. For me, this is one of them. I heard it years ago, whenever I first got this album, and it just irked me because it seemed catchy but insubstantial. Listening today, I can't understand how I missed how well it was written.
This is surely one of the most underrated tracks in the NP catalogue. The brass and the beats takes you to another level of existence, and the way the track fades out during the last 1:30 is just pure aural ecstasy. Better than drugs.
One of those songs that kinda' grabs ya' first time around. Always kind of appreciated the way they only used that closing hook twice, beautiful as it is, instead of endlessely repeating it on the fade.
This is my favorite song from this fantastic band. The production is amazing. Somehow, they manage to make it sound like a cross between 70s glam-rock, late-60s mind-trip psychedelia, and early-60s beach-frug party movie music, with Annette Funicello. The tremelo-effected guitar, the gentle swells of the brass, and of course the vocals... and that great drummer!
Does anyone know what's being sung in the background from about 3:10 to 3:40? It's barely audible and only on the right-side stereo channel.

Also, it's "cryptic crossword locks", I believe.
Didn't mean to come off as a snot btw. It's hard plumbing these lyrics, but very rewarding.

Overwhelming song, the way it builds and breaks through to bliss.
But I can tell you've got some of the lyrics wrong. It's "Do not do not deny my / Attention to detail".
Other lyrics I *think* you've got wrong but your guess is as good as mine: I hear "Do not do not deny me / Deny my love's reveal".
I thought Twin Cinema was an underwhelming album in general but this track is a stunning exception.

@dgwdws maybe if you didn't try to sound so smart and didn't think so damn hard you could just enjoy a song for being a good song
