Bravo! I liked this interpretation. No matter what other says, its just them opinion, but in my opinion everyone has a way to do they own interpretation and express it in a way that they like or understand it. This was something different and what i really adore!
Hasn't anyone heard of jazz after 1958? The level of expression, technique, improvisational concepts and musicality is much more higher than a lot of other so called "straight" guys. Saxophone players especially, I have a feeling that Paul's tone would blow you all out of the water before you got the chance to start spewing out every jive ass, lame, cliche Charlie Parker lick you knew over the changes of this tune.
You are missing out if you can't appreciate musicality like this.
To everybody that dislikes this, pick up some Eric Dolphy or some of the latest john Coltrane. Jazz isn't just bebop and pretty "in-tune" sounds, though it is a good part of it. This isn't a big band where they have to be as precisely in-tune with each other. They are just in the moment of making music; playing what they feel at the moment. That's just my opinion as is everyone else on here, but I just think that there is more to music than just being straight ahead, pretty sounds.
this is like Archie Shepps version of the song. love the whole expressive free jazz like kinda feel. Nice interpretation unique and something different...
whoa guys, i think this is fantastic; such an original take on a classic tune! i love how he dances around all the traditional phrases, especially in his rendition of the melody and sometimes he intetionally plays resolution notesd notes WAY flat if not an entire cromatic step off. brilliant!
door het spelen van deze prachtige compositie wordt pijnlijk duidelijk dat een aantal van deze heren niet kan spelen: vals, geen concept, harmonisch onbenullig, geen time.....Wat een onzin!
it sounded like he tried to sound like eric dolphy at some parts and like johnny hodges at some parts, two players with two completely different styles

This was horrible... Just my opinion, not trying to press it on others. I just really hated the sax in this.

@jazzmanbd scoops are fine, he just never quite got to the in tune part of the note...and he's flat on the high E throughout, not just on the scoops

I just remember a similar version , as superb as this one, by Archie Shepp, thirty years ago...

Nice interpretation. Some people can say many things against the playing: but when you play with soul all the things change
