ah yea, another interesting tidbit. at 4:09 when the awesome alien appears, that was mentioned in epiosde 3 part 3 (in this uploader's playlist) at 8:12 and describes precisely what lain sees, although it's a kid instead of an alien. perhaps in that episode what we heard were lain's thoughts, or perhaps this is lain's projection of what that person saw.

To be honest, this show is making me not want to live in Japan. I mean so far, it puts a fairly ominous frame on world wide web. It makes me want to go camping. The sad truth is that it's only out of spite for urban life, or the pressure to have such a mindset. Same feeling as the pressure to not eat fast food, except maybe a little less rational.

the way I see its depicting how people have deires and perseption.

Desires for what hthey want, and what they want to be. Though even if they reach, or by reaching what they desire, pr how they want to percieve things they never quite do but at the same time theyve all had reached it.

Lain wanted to be connected, she ways in a way, he friends did reach out to here and care about her. But she wanted a different type of connection, or relationship

We exist when a third party recognizes us and vice versa. THey are the same but different, somtimes the way we see ourselevs isnt how others see us. That because we can never share though like a computer can be wired to something else.

the futile effort to try to connect to other people is in us all, and it cuold even cause dilemas. IE the "rumors", or in real life people getting offended, or to an extreme war.

I could go on as well about how I feel this anime depicts perception of reality and individuality and the struggle we have to be an individual and yet be like others so we can "connect" to them.

Theat failure in communication is the suase of some much strife, yet we will always try to "connect" to others.

At this point of the story, i think this anime is just a reflection of the today's real world. Sometimes we are not aware of what we do, what we think or what we feel, and we just live in some kind of dream, like perpetual unconsciousness. Then we realize this and we try to escape from it, and we create alter egos to resist and fix up this.

I noticed that Lain's childish persona in the Real World wears Bear pajamas and is reserved and shy. Maybe with all the crazy stuff going on in her life at the moment she's trying to obtain a sense of relaxation or calmness for the moment. Her Bear pajamas represent her innosence.
