Firstly this IS electric, not hybrid. It produces its electricity from Hydrogen gas. The problem with non-fuel cell electric cars is that they use batteries which are not as practical as petrol cars.
Example, if I wanted to drive from Edinburgh to London a battery based electric car would be near useless. I would need to stop three times and charge it for hours at a time. With a petrol or Hydrogen car you just pull into a gas station and fill it up, you're on your way again in minuets!
I assume you live in the UK... you have no problem to buy your own petrol and "gas" on daily basis... Well.. we do. Here is the thing... they could make the ultimate transport, but there is no business in it. Noone has to agree with me, but I believe this is a fact.
YEAH! This is what I'm getting once it is available to buy. Screw you stupid as people that own your earth killing V8's and V6's. This is the only vehicle that matters. Those musscle cars are only for the people that don't realize they made a mistake in buying them, when in actuality they will be losing so much money since they now will have to purchase so much gas.
Yes, but Honda is working on making a "Home Energy Station" that will allow you to refuel the FCX Clarity. Besides, I'll just go with the Prius if it turns out that the "Home Energy Station" isn't produced. Since I only drive in the City Toyota's "Regenerative Braking" will recharge the Prius's Batteries allowing me to produce no exhaust. Since it's only at mid range speeds that the Prius's petrol Engine starts, I'll just stay in the City to never use my Gas.
wow. that is a really retarded thing to say. to put it basically you will always use fuel because you wont get all the power you put into moving the car from the brakes because there will be energy lost elsewhere. you will eventually have to use gas to charge the engine.
Actually, No I won't. I won't because there is at present a Conversion kit to convert the existing Prius to a "plug-in" Hibrid. This conversion will enable the Prius to get 100MPG and not emit any exhaust while at speeds of 35MPH and under. Additionally, Toyota's "Regenerative Braking" will still recharge the battery during braking as normal thus Allowing the converted Prius to avoid using the Petrol Engine for a longer duration than normal.
and where do you think that electricty comes from? it will take hours to charge a car from the wall, the prius may be more economical but you will have to use some sort of fuel, whether its from a coal power station or petrol you will be using fuel. and regenerative braking might boost the battery but it doesnt make an effective enough contribution to the battery. your gonna hav to decide cheap but still polluting prius or expensive clean fcx
You do realize you cant buy the clarity, only lease it for an "affordable" $600 per month, and only in California since no other state in the US has the infrastructure.
In any case, I would rather drive around in a cool old muscle car like the Dodge Challenger N/A than a 4-door Honda. The day the auto industry makes an electric or fuel cell sports car that doesn't scream eco-nerd to the world, I'll buy one. Until then, I'll stick with my Lexus SC400 V8 coupe thank you very much.
Attention all Americans and peoples of the world - hydrogen fuel cells is NOT the way to go - we as peoples of the world are then TRAPPED once again into purchasing hydrogen from some idiot or BIG HYDROGEN at that point - the REVOLUTION in energy is NOW. STAND UP as peoples of the world against BIG OIL and now BIG HYDROGEN. We need a SELF-SUSTAINING hydrogen generating device that uses simply water. On YOUTUBE,lookup Stanley Meyer, Daniel Dingel and HHO.The homegrown hydrogen REVOLUTION is NOW!
I am tired with high oil prices. This time the arabs and other oil rich countries should think hard if they would really want to continue seeling oil at current value. They should realize they are making alternative enegy cheaper and the downfall of their oil industry because of greed.
People driving 50+ miles a day for a comute are also ignorant. Move! Your killing the rest of us just because YOU want to work in the city. There's no jobs in your home town? You can't find -anything- to do at home to make money? Nothing? Even if you did I doubt it makes enough to afford that 200mph sportscar.
People here use electricity because gas isn't available. Takes more resources to create the hydrogen and biofuels than it gives. I guess if we used enough gas in our homes we might keep the tank full but what about those of us who have cut our consumption to the bone and don't use air conditioning. Where will the hydrogen come from if we aren't consuming another limited resource. Start building fueling stations and the cost will be the same as what we pay for petrol. Nice try but it won't fly.
It's a great solution except it's too complicated to be affordable. That statement is only based on current human greed. It could be made affordable but the people who run it wouldn't be. I can't see any reason a hand valve has to cost $5,000.
Absolutly, the UN estimates that the world is over populated by around 4 billion people. There are only so many resources to go around, yet no politian seems willing to even accept over population as the primary cause of our resource shortages. We turn a blind eye at our peril...
This is RIDICULOUS! Where the hell do they think this hydrogen will come from? it takes ENERGY to creat hydrogen. . . far more than is given back when it is converted to water again. And what about all this water being put back into the environment? Has anyone concidered what that will do? And when all of these conventional cars begin switching over. . . what about the unforeseen affects like happened when cars switched to catalytic converters?
......where will hydrogen come from? Hmm... let me think. Everywhere! It is the most abundant source of energy in the world. Also what about the water were putting back into the world....hmm.... i dont, the same place we took it? The only problem that may occur is condensation and a lot of it. Other than that, this is a step in the right direction and our best option. Unless you know something else.
I know something else. GM, Ford, ect. knows something else. Why don't you? Because no one tells you. You'll hear about flodding, tornados, and gang wars before you'll hear a news segment on battery technology. Don't forget who owns the FCC.
if more cars come out like this you better sell your car well before these hit the roads. The conventional fuel based car market is going to slowly collapse. It already is now!
My only concern is that with hydrogen power we will no see 200mph monsters, or even anything that comes remtely close to 500bhp+ road missiles of today - enjoy 'em while you can :(
Name one hydrogen powered car that can go from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds & crack 200mph. I say hydrogen as I do not feel electric only cars, due to their limited range, are realistic.
Need? Ever heard of FUN? Wouldnt like to to what your idea of a perfect world. Also, did it ever occour to you that some people actually travel great distances to work because they HAVE to? I suppose youre idea would be for them to remain unemployed. Get a grip on reality, the situation is nowhere near as simple as you seem to think. You cant just undo the past century because it offends you personaly. Maybe you should get off your high horse & suggest something practical, or be quiet.
My idea of fun isn't driving a 200mph car. I'm quite happy doing 0-60 in 4sec in my Miata with "only" a top speed of 130 but I get 30+ mpg with it. The people who can afford 200mph cars are the same ones charging $4/gal for gas and $300,000 for a single family home. The same two reasons someone has to comute 50 miles just to afford the cost of living and his payment on the Minivan.
So? If some one can afford a luxury then its that persons right to purchase it. If you have a problem with that then your argument should be against an unjust society. The more you write the more I tink you'd prefer to live in a comunist state. I hear China's starting to take off, something to think about? Personaly I believe in live & let live so I'll stay here, where personal freedoms are prized.
I think the reason you talk so much crap is because you have your head up your arse, wich in effect provides you with a near limitless supply of 'talking absoulute shit'. Ergo, you are living proof that nuclear power is the way to go. I'm done humoring you now, go & play with someone that cares.
How very insightful, I am very impressed, well done. You should rule the world seeing as you know absoulutly everything & everyone that dissagrees with you is wrong by default. Ever thought of running for president? I think you'd do well. Honest.
actually, the cars are not our biggest polluter. It is the Meat eaters of the planet. It takes 75% of oil/fuel to run the companies to product the grain to feed the animals that meat eaters eat. Believe it or not, our cars only pollute about 10% of CO2 emissions. But yeah, we're in trouble either way due to OVERPOPULATION!
it produces enough electrictity to power a house.
therefore, when it's not in use, plug it into your house's grid and leave the engine running. if eneryone did this, domestic electricity consumption would be reduced to zero and you'd get free water out the exhaust as a bonus!
Look, if you want to knock honda for tring go ahead. Heres the reality- no one else is doing this ie moving towards a clean vehicle for the masses.
