It's weird to see Djokovic from back then. His ground strokes are so much more fluid and heavy now. His most aggressive points in this match are how he plays all the time now. But nothing against Santoro. He's an incredible talent. I just wish I got to see more of him.
@Giannantonio83. You obviously do not fully appreciate the sport then. This man was adored wherever he played. He was unorthodox and cunning and such a humble player. So before you open your mouth you may need to learn more about the game and learn to appreciate some of it's elder statesmen
@TheDrowsyMadcap i don't think it was leaning towards favoring Djokovic but if it was then nothings wrong with it, Santoro played a very passive, defensive game. DJokovic had more down the line, cross court winners.
Santoro is one of the player who can still keep the fascination of tennis. he make every shot become a magic, and it is sad that we lost a such wonderful player.
You can tell Novak was still green and inexperienced. Just playing into Fabrice's hands. How can you go time and time again to the court side where your opponent is at, when there's plenty of open court left to exploit. For God's sake don't test Santoro's sweet hands, and Novak got a taste of how sweet they are. hehe. Nonetheless, the immense potential truly was there.
Pleeeeaaasssseeee.... Dont get me started. Ok if u play tennis, anyone can tell that all santaro is doing is pushing, literally. Djokovic tries so hard not to lose concentration though, but still... Tennis is tennis. So hey im not truly mad at the guy.
Santoro is not only ridiculously fast, his ability to make last minute adjustments and decisions when reaching the ball is humbling. such a mature player
Santoro was "spawned" by the the millions of park players around the world. He is proof positive that unorthodox shots, if practiced enough, can cause a whole world of pain for your opponent - long live park players!!!!!!
@contemplation09 I don't see park players using unorthodox shots anymore. They're all imitating the pros now, with those incredibly banal topspin groundstrokes. Which park are you playing in?
@Pundit2k What's interesting about Santoro is his ability to hit unorthodox shots with consistency. I play in parks in London and New York - and will forward you a vid of some of the unorthodox players I come across. They often make the banal topspin jockeys go crazy!
@affenkeks A park player is anyone who uses public/municipal tennis facilities. Describing someone as a "park player" is often short hand for describing a players standard (e.g. someone who does not play that often and has inconsistent stroke production ect).

Santoro the magician! Really miss his cunning shots, his changes of pace, the way he sneaks up to the net after his approach slices. So entertaining!

but staying in the top50 at his age and with his limits was great
