I agree , but implementing these ethics into our society has taken generations of religious teachings, I'm not saying that religious people are more ethical than atheists, just that even atheists live by the ethics implemented by religion. I also think that attacking religious people like this would be crossing the line if these were to be considered serious accusations. Ethics are implemented by PEOPLE. The credit is just often given to the institution of religion. It's not the words in the bible that are doing the good work. It's human beings. I'll give credit to the people who do good. I'm an atheist in that i don't believe in anything supernatural. but I am also a christian in that i believe in the teachings of the bible for instance, the ethic of reciprocity which states that one has a right to just treatment, and a responsibility to ensure justice for others. I think that ethics are important so i dont think that religion is only a hindrance.
Sure, there has been good that has come out of religion. But, was religion absolutely necessary to achieve that good? You don't need religion to incorporate ethics into your life. One can have no religion, and still be a good person.

Okay, i think you are misunderstanding my opinion completely. I do not support the church or the bible, like i said, i agree with you and mr. Jackson on most of these things and i like this song alot. what i am saying is that you cannot just draw a line between "good" and "bad" and throw religion to the bad side, saying that it is nothing more than a hindrance like dzk is doing. There's just not much of a point in arguing on the things i agree with you on, so i focus on the things we disagree on

I never completely threw religion to the bad side. But, it sure does hold many negative components. My apologies for my incorrect interpretation of what you were saying.

i agree with a lot of things in this song, but i wouldn't go quite as far as to say that religion is nothing but a hindrance. I'm an atheist in that i don't believe in anything supernatural. but I am also a christian in that i believe in the teachings of the bible for instance, the ethic of reciprocity which states that one has a right to just treatment, and a responsibility to ensure justice for others. I think that ethics are important so i dont think that religion is only a hindrance.

Sure, there has been good that has come out of religion. But, was religion absolutely necessary to achieve that good? You don't need religion to incorporate ethics into your life. One can have no religion, and still be a good person.
