Keel Pharmaceuticals had licensed intellectual property from Massachusetts General Hospital for the purposes of commercializing drug therapies based on Dr. Faustman's research. That intellectual property and Keel's research efforts were not related to the Phase I clinical BCG trial. Keel is no longer in business. Dr. Faustman does not currently have any active commercialization programs related to this research.

She is partner and co-owner of Keel Pharmaceutical, earning money for her so-called research. This research has already been done, including human trials from 1995 to 2000 by the Barbara Davis Institute. The study was called:
Effect of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccination on new-onset type 1 diabetes.
@jazzinfour Here is the conclusion from the paper you cite: "Perhaps BCG does function as an effective immunomodulator is this disease, but further studies are required to determine an effective dose, route of administration, and timing of the intervention." This is exactly what the Faustman lab is doing.

Phase I is to test for safety in administering BCG. It is already used as a vaccine is a specified dosage. Phase 2 will check for effective dosing needed to increase TNF-alpha. Long-term Type Is are essentially deficient in TNF-alpha. TNF alpha helps the body's immune system distinguish self-from-non-self cells.
I remember seeing organ transplantation performed in a baby only weeks or months old and didn't require anti rejection drugs as its immune system was not developed enough to recognize a foreign organ, has anybody heard this or correct me if im wrong. Sorry to change the subject Allie but this is something I have been thinking of for a while.
You know the other point I was thinking about for a while, is that this technology can definitely branch out into other diseases. If I have the right idea this BCG is being used to modify the behavior of the auto immune system, now this is an extremely useful tool in relation to (I think MS), Loopus, organ transplant?

Faustman appears to be a fraud.

Google it and read.
There is no effect from treatment with BCG.

Do you think the FDA may be hindering progress?

Hey Allie
What was the point of the stage 1 trial? Was it to test safety of the drug?
