Utah has been sealing all of their abandoned mines over the last several years. Definitely NOT the state to live in if one is into exploring abandoned mines. Glad I live in California because of that!
Most of these mines are patented and not available for work or claim. There are alot of mines that are open to claim and own. GRE posts a lot of our finds on Ebay. I would suggest watching that site for mining claims for sale.
I am not a miner but is interested and want to be one. From the looks of it, the claim is not yielding enough gold to merit investing a good and safe timbering to reinforce and prevent the mines from caving in.
Are the mining claims for this site still valid? Maybe under new management and a different mining technique could reopen the mines. If strict governmental requirements are met and safety issues are addressed. Who owns the mining claim and ae they selling it?
As a retired owner of a small mine, all I can say is that I think some people are getting a bit over excited about this.
All that appears to have been done is that the shafts have had safety screens put in place and in the doing of this several very decrepit and dangerous pieces of old head frames were removed for access.
If they were intent on destroying the mines, they would have pushed the mullock heaps into the shafts and sealed them.
It never ceases to amaze me, the scathing hatred some people have towards mining. And the arrogant sanctimonious politicians who fall over themselves to help oblige the anti-mining community.
Sticking a locked gate on something makes people want to break it open and see whats on the other side more than if there was no gate.Atleast in the US they dont do what they do in the UK,put a collar round the top then fill it with tons of concrete or blast it closed. There are proper underground explorer clubs in the UK,but land owners and the government really enjoy destroying historic sites, they even build housing estates ontop of old mines, like redruth and camborne
let me find these mines i will open them back up ....LOL.. i would like to see them close my gold claim down.... over my dead body.... and bullets first!!!!!
Watching this seriously pissed me off. The government is getting too powerful and will continue to do so. Vote Libertarian if you care about liberty and want to preserve this nation for future generations!!
Abandon mine safety is important but preserving these sites for future generation is just as important. I am a recreational miner but I am also a history buff and like riding out into the desert and mountains away from the city to get intouch with the past.
a grinder will get through them steel bars XD

I think that it was very sensibly done.
